I just recently watched this. It is almost a good movie, but Diaz feels miscast and some of the dialogue is terrible. Like almost student film terrible.
That being said it has kino moments and I wasn't bored.
>but it reaches heights far beyond no country for old men.
"No!"

Diaz was not originally intended to play the woman.
I forget the specifics, but for some reason, Diaz got the part maybe after another actress dropped out, and Ridley Scott then changed some specifics, like where Diaz’s character was from.
I forget whether this was from commentary on the film on the DVD, or from a documentary on the film.
Makes sense, she tries her best but I just wasn't feeling it in most of her scenes.
Scott probably originally wanted Charlize, would be my guess.

Who knows. Maybe Diaz swallowed some of Scott’s cum, that means something.

In the film’s Trivia on IMDB. >” Cameron Diaz initially played Malkina with a thick Bajan accent, which tested poorly with preview audiences. 20th Century Fox subsequently requested that Diaz re-dub the majority of her lines, much to her chagrin. As a consequence of the dubbing, Diaz refused to promote the film upon its release”
This could explain some of the issues with Diaz’s performance.
Also > Cameron Diaz's character Malkina is Argentinian in Cormac McCarthy's screenplay. The country of origin was changed to Barbados for the film. This decision was seemingly made to better fit Diaz' physical appearance to her character's ethnicity
How many fricking people know the difference in physical appearance between Argentinians and Barbadians ?

Ok, here it is. > Angelina Jolie was originally cast as Malkina but dropped out. She was replaced by Cameron Diaz.
I honestly can’t tell if Jolie would have been an improvement.

For a sociopath like Diaz’s character, no.
The nice thing about Diaz is casting her sort of subverted expectations.
Maybe Jessica Chastain. ?

Chastain doesn’t have the raw sexual energy coupled with physicality. Pretty to look at but lacking athleticism.
I mean can you really call them friends if they were willing to kill each other to save themselves, ironically in a situation where it's guaranteed nobody is getting out alive?
Can't wait for it to be revealed this wasn't random and these morons had it coming.
>Came for Michael Fassbender >Can only remember Brad Pitt
I legitimately cannot remember what the frick this movie was about or what happened in it. Just Brad Pitt getting garroted. It's strange because I don't recall outright hating it by any means, just being baffled. Like it was edited incorrectly making the end result incomprehensible.
Like most Ridley Scott films, the extended is a major improvement.
It's got some great philosophical rambling but the actual mechanics of the drug deal and like that anon above mentioned some of the dialogue definitely needed work.
>I always thought Oliver Stone had directed this, what the frick.
Imagine how much worse it would have been if Stone had directed it?
Apparently Ridley Scott had long wanted to adapt Blood Meridien, but was unable to, do McCarthy gave the script for The Counselor to Scott.
the israelite scene is redpilling

sometimes i feel like no one even watch this movie
it's one of my favorite films. it's deeply flawed but it reaches heights far beyond no country for old men.
>it reaches heights far beyond no country for old men.
this is some high tier hipsterism
NTA but he ain’t wrong, captures nihilism and futility way better without a bunch of dumb caricatures that the Coens rely on.

they could have shown the snuff film with the lawyers wife
Yes.
I didn't like how mean spirited it was. Penelope Cruz's character ending up headless and thrown in the dump was just a really shitty thing to do.
Its realistic man. Don’t dwell on it.
anon...
these cartel homies need to get laid
why are Aztecs and Comanche blooded mesoamericans so evil bros?
The spanish blood fricked it even more

There is an extended cut, not sure which one you saw and also not sure if the extended even improves the movie.
Like most Ridley Scott films, the extended is a major improvement.

But you had no problem with the car fricking scene???
SSniperwolf is so fricking hot. I got a thing for med, MENA, and Latina girls.
She's hot but my god she talks like a moronic 10 year old and is dumb as frick.
