Was the Little Mermaid remake really that bad?

Was the Little Mermaid remake really that bad? Obviously it was never going to live up to the original but as a stand alone?

To think the animation is multiple times slower than how fast it happened.

it took only a fraction of second for them to die, they probably didn't feel any pain.

This is slow motion, keep in mind. It's so sad that the initial concept was sound: A sub with very few parts to make it more affordable and secure. But the butthole had to ignore all warnings and kept going down.without replacing the carbon hull.

Although, I think he was charging 45k per person on a four person dive and at best he should have only 3 dives per hull. I think that's actually not enough or just breaking even to afford a new hull after 3 dives.

The thing is if I was some total rich motherfricker who could afford a sub trip to look at some sunken boat, I wouldn't cheap out on taking a ride in a tiny ass sub with three other people and there's no chairs.

controversial, but I thought the girl playing Ariel was alright. But she couldn't save this movie from being a soulless disney rehash.

To her credit she matches Ariel's shape pretty well if maybe needing more breast meat. It was just a bad idea from the start.

    Every Disney remake is trash.

I think it was mid tier as a movie, and as a celebration of diversity, it was a cheap marketing stunt that wasn't really very committed to the idea of diversity on screen but was more about advertising that Disney apparently cares about minorities now (unless they;re Chinese Muslims). But it wasn't particularly morally wrong in of itself, and seeing black kids be happy was nice.

I think the Disney remakes stand on their own well enough. Are they good or are they bad? Let the consumers decide for themselves.

Black person you are the consumer, decide already.

    > as a stand alone

This type of argument is always stupid for products like this. It was made to capitalize on brand awareness, no matter how much they change things, they bank on people being aware of the original.

I hope the Chinese buy out Disney and then do something worthwhile with the IP's.

Of course it is. Most of the movie is using the same damn script, to the point where you wonder why bother.

Are these remakes some esoteric means to try and control copyright or is it another case of disney flushing away several millions just to attempt to make a couple million?
Have ANY of the remakes been profitable?

as a standalone, it banks too hard on referencing the original except in all the places where directly copying the original would have worked better because the shit they did instead was moronic.
case in point: every musical number

They can always blame racism instead of themselves for producing such a terrible movie.
