Was this 2 second kiss scene really the reason why this movie bombed at the box office?

I looked up the gay kiss scene on Tiktok and lit's literally the blink of an eye. Barely a sexual kiss like in Disney princess movies. Are you telling me this nostalgia cashgrab with a trash plot would have done better at the box office is they removed that 2 second scene?

sorry but it's true. the movie bombed hardest in the Midwest and South. it did best in the West. you had countries banning it. it was absolutely the reason it bombed.
people might be tolerant of LGBTQ but that shouldn't be confused with acceptance and most certainly not something suitable for children.

Lightyear is a PG kids cartoon.
Dr. Strange is a PG-13 borderline horror Marvel movie.
          Strange-
          >Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, frightening images and some language.
          Lightyear-
          >Rated PG for action/peril

This. If I had the time to watch a movie, I'd rather choose Everywhere All at Once than this, which I did. Coincidentally, after returning from the cinema I saw a critic saying that Lightyear doesn't have anything groundbreaking and plays too safe in the lane. It was around a few days before there was an announcement about some middle east countries and chink banning the movie.

Everyone cares. That's the thing. White morons who want to look progressive care by constantly mentioning that they don't care or that they embrace it. Few Indian and Turkish minorites at my workplace get triggered when I ask them if they took their kids to watch the new Disney movie and start uncomfortably talking about the movie not representing their religion etc.

Incorrect. They do know. The very fact they had to expend energy to be vigilant is the issue. These movies are supposed to be parenting breaks. This is a massive issue for Disney. Huge mistakes. Forced errors due to BlackRock ESG.

Conservative families upset because of identity politics and a lesbo kiss

SJWs upset because Pixar initially removed the kiss and only put it back to grovel/pander

Disneyland/Disney parks fans upset this movie is rumored to take over classic Space Mountain

Train your core audience to watch movies on your streaming service (which is hemorrhaging money) instead of paying to see it in theaters

Lead actor comically insults everyone who would prefer to keep identity politics out of their entertainment and compares them to the subject of the more popular movie released the week before

Can’t even finish first at the BO in it’s opening weekend with no other major release, drops 70% in its 2nd and gets BTFO by another movie in its 5th week

This is a fight you should have been fighting like 20 or 30 years ago. Its all just so redundant at this point. They've already won. They've long supplanted the white middle class suburban nuclear family as the mascots of global Americanism. Its in the fricking bag for them. And while all that went on, "conservatives" barely lifted a fricking finger.

I was 2yo 30 years ago. You are probably right tho.

Yes. This is what the people asking "what's the big deal" don't understand. It always starts small and grows. Drag queens and pride marches in kids Blue's Clues already, the way has been paved. Disney is just waiting to go down it further.

It led to the film being banned in several lucrative markets, so yes. As far as westerners go, this scene isn't a big deal, but the "bigots hate our movie and we'll be glad when they die" marketing push was a huge mistake. Even if you like lesbians, this just associates your movie with bad vibes. Not what you want with a summer family film

I 100% believe that Disney put the homosexual shit back into the movie specifically so it would be banned in a bunch of countries. They did it so the tide of news stories about the movie being banned for the homosexual shit would drum up a ton of outrage and free advertising. Outrage advertising has been the big thing for a while now, and China has already banned all of Hollywood from their market so putting that stuff in there can't hurt them as much as it could have before.

The movie looked kind of neat but Disney can't really walk back demanding gay sex be taught to five year olds. It's not really justifiable in any way and they decided to die on that hill for some reason. Keep in mind that the crew put the kiss in the movie just out of spite that they didn't get their way. That's what made people avoid this movie.

No, you fricking moron. You got gaslighted by the leftist articles trying to mock conservatives. The entire main plot of the movie does actually revolve around the lesbian relationship. It's not just a 2 second kiss scene. It's a lot of scenes showing the lesbians being together, holding a baby, and this being the main motivation for Buzz not wanting to change the past. The entire movie is some weird lesbian drama with some sci-fi thrown in the middle.

And not to mention that Zurg, who is an older Buzz from an alternate timeline, is the villain because he wants to go back in time to fix the mistake he made in the beginning of the movie, which would erase the relationship between Hawthorne and the jap altogether.

  12. 2 years ago

That wasn't the reason, it was:

-Pixar employee's virtue signaling too hard over the kiss being cut, then re-added (more than likely the kiss was going to be cut internationally like they always do and they just wanted it to be in every version this time).
-The movie being bland. There's nothing groundbreaking about the plot, and as a movie about Buzz Lightyear, everyone wanted a space adventure movie and this just isn't it. Even before it released, the trailers didn't do anything to capture anyone's excitement. When the highlight of your movie is the mascot character that only exists to sell toys, you messed up.

      >Even before it released, the trailers didn't do anything to capture anyone's excitement. When the highlight of your movie is the mascot character that only exists to sell toys, you messed up.
This is true and not talked about enough. Normally the ads focusing on a comic relief character are for getting kids to see it again weeks after relief, but every spot I saw for Lightyear was just "it's buzz and he has a funny cat!", even before release. It’s both, many of the people avoiding it because of the gay propaganda aren’t as vocal on the internet and are just quietly ignoring it and people who did go see it are giving it very poor word-of-mouth because their kids were bored.

The whole movie is woke bullshit. Buzz lightyear was was written as a comedic relief dipshit who kept getting himself into trouble and a black woman had to save him over and over again. There's actually a running joke in the series where he keeps getting attacked by giant plant tentacles and someone else has to save his ass every fricking time. It's 2 hours of anti-machismo, the future is feminine horseshit.

Yeah, and that running gag is cringe as frick, why the hell they added it. It just cringe and non sensical, and doesn't have any connection to the plot.

Why would you lie about this. Buzz is written straight laced and dedicated to the mission as frick while its his side kicks that are pure comedic relief with the space cadet afraid of space, taika waititi at his worst and an unholy combination of the old lady and french explosives dude from Atlantis. The tentacles also grabbed plenty of people in the base (though it was primarily buzz, a weird joke they forget about halfway through).
The movie was plenty bad in its own right to justify it flopping, why would you bother outright lying about the movie?

    Half yes, half no.
It got the film banned in many countries that cut its profits a whole lot and made some controversies domestically, but it’s more of a red flag telling me it’s going to be bad.
    >Movie is a meta-ish narrative, as it’s the film that got Andy excited into Buzz Lightyear
    >This is incredibly stupid since the film makes Buzz look like a fricking incompetent whimp
    >There is also the fact that the only returning character is really Buzz
    >None of the Star Command characters appear at all, despite narratively Buzz Lightyear being a brand in-universe
    >There are aliens and robots, but are very uncommon
    >Instead of the team Buzz had in Star Command with an alien princess redhead, an red egg-shaped janny, and the immortal robot, with itself is pretty diverse, we get bland human astronauts that somehow get pregnant with kissing
    >Film also has Buzz from the future be Zurg or something
    >This is supposedly also from the 90s as well as well as the “real Buzz” what ever that means
    >Also no Tim Allen as Buzz because this film is clearly more about politics and Disney now hates him
    >They don’t even get Patrick Warburton even though he voiced Buzz in the cartoon because they apparently hated the show
The only reasons why they have the Lesbians in the film is because they can just call anyone criticizing the film homophobes, and so they can get that Blackrock money.
The film flopped, but it doesn’t matter since it raises their ESG score to pay off the losses.

I don't doubt Disney hates the Toolman and I don't care about Evans enough to see him as he is a preachy homosexual but Allen is in talks to make another Santa Clause movie so they are at least speaking

        Anonymous

        >“Scott Calvin is near the very edge of his 65th birthday celebration and understands that he can’t be Santa until the end of time.

        >He’s beginning to lose a stage in his Santa obligations, and all the more significantly, he has a family who could profit from a daily existence in the ordinary world, particularly his two children who have grown up at the Pole.

        >With a ton of mythical beings, kids, and family to please, Scott embarks to track down an appropriate substitution Santa while setting up his family for another experience in a daily existence south of the pole.”

This is the official synopsis for The Santa Clause 4. It's literally going to be "you are pale, male, and stale. We're replacing you with a black lesbian." They're going to give Tim Allen one final paycheck, just so they can spit on the one remaining thing in his legacy.

Lots of your reasons are more about why people wouldn’t like the movie, rather than why they wouldn’t see it. No one knows what’s in the movie until they see it. This movie failed because it made people not want to see it. And why didn’t people want to see it? I think the main reasons are:
      1. People like toy story, not a real life buzz going on what’s advertised as a serious mission. It just looked boring and had no real connection to the franchise people love.
      2. Woke fatigue is real, and the advertisements sure as hell made it look like another woke film to most normies.
      3. It’s a kid movie and kids nowadays don’t care about buzz lightyear, and the trailer didn’t make it look like an exciting kids movie

The advertising just made the movie look boring and woke. Take away the wine shit it’d still bomb although I’m sure if the movie actually looked fun and exciting and you kept the wine shit in it would have been profitable.

Yes. Regardless of the quality of the rest of the film, the overall discussion was completely dominated by this one scene. Positive coverage or negative coverage doesn't matter, it was all focused entirely to this specific scene and people argued for it or against it. Any actual information about the film itself, plot, characters, music, set pieces, whatever, none of that was discussed. You talk to anyone about the movie and the only thing they're going to know is that it has 2 girls kissing in a children's movie.
The media is doing its best to downplay the effect the scene had. It's true that no one wanted to see a Buzz Lightyear movie and that it had a host of other issues, you cannot deny that the gay kiss WAS the major talking point and drowned out any and all marketing the film had. Everyone is trying their best to not blame the LGBT pandering agenda.

At this point I think we can write out the Disney+ expectation excuse, as the film had a 65% drop.

I think a significant amount of families are not seeing Lightyear because it doesn't look fun enough. And the perception is accurate. I liked it, but would've liked it even more if those 2 sidekick guys were significantly toned down. But that's the kind of content that appeals to kids and makes for good marketing. Pixar has made a movie targeting old men like me instead of family audiences, and this is completely ignoring the LGBT controversy.

As someone who's fine with LGBT representation, this was an example of high risk for low reward. The fact is, showing the kiss is unnecessary and cost Disney tons in worldwide revenue, AND some domestic revenue from people claiming the movie's "woke". Yes, this movie will make your kids gay apparently. I totally would've understood Pixar taking out the kiss, even if some people would use it as more proof that Disney is evil and doesn't really care about the LGBTs, virtue signalers, etc. buzzwords. They made a choice that people will respect more in the long run, but I'm sure cost them money here. But at the same time, when these movies end up missing the mark with audiences anyway, it sends a bad message for diversity, which is unfortunate. I continue to appreciate Pixar and other studios trying to move things forward, and overall, I think my first reason is the main reason the movie's failing. Not the LGBT stuff, since that's not part of marketing.

Buzz is a black transsexual now? Man, things keep changing.

  107. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

    it's ONE reason.
    1. the lesbian kiss and the lesbian family itself. You'd be surprised at how many cultures notice that gays want to enjoy the children that spawn from the hetero biological process while rejecting that process.

    2. Buzz Lightyear is largely incompetent, and NEEDS noble strong gay black woman to help him every step of the way.

    3. Disney refusing to hire Tim Allen due to him being a conservative Christian.

    4. attacking the movie-going audience for not supporting this shit

      Anonymous

Again, why do you people bother to lie about #2.
The gay woman dies in the first 15 minutes and the crux of the movie is Buzz needs to be patient with the fact not everyone IS as competent as him.
I don't understand why people even pretend to get outraged about a movie they haven't watched.

        Anonymous

The whole movie is about Buzz and the daughter of the lesbian woman, whose entire existence depends on either the lesbian woman getting impregnated by some dude in an open relationship with the two, or one of the dykes being a troony with a dick the whole time.

There's no way kids won't be brainwashed by this shit. They'll either have to accept that women can reproduce without sperm, or that it's ok to have a dude give his sperm to two dykes, or that it's ok for a kid to be raised by two females with no father figure, or that it's ok for fricking suicidal TRANNIES to exist and get married to a dyke and have children with said dyke.

          Anonymous

Black person all the movie does is show gay people exist and quietly posit the existence of sperm donors. How addicted to porn must you be to immediately jump to troony dick brainwashing from whatever was in Lightyear?

It's stupid how they wasted Andy's sister. She spends two movies as a fricking baby and then we skip her entire toddler, e-girl and preteen years, only to have her tween self appear for 5 seconds before the story moves on from Andy's family and we never see them again.

It bombed because nobody wanted a Buzz movie. They especially didn't want a Buzz movie without Tim Allen. They especially especially didn't want a Buzz movie without Tim Allen where the secondary character was a Black person female.

A movie about Buzz voiced by Tim Allen about Buzz being a heroes hero would've at least made its money back.
