I remember it feeling a lot cheaper and nowhere as good. I don't mean that in the sense of Prince of Egypt being a difficult bar to pass - I mean it genuinely felt like they had a far lower budget, and it lacked the care and passion afforded to Prince of Egypt.
It wasn't bad, but Prince of Egypt was just so much better. It doesn't help that the story being adapted is pretty set in stone from being religious text, so there isn't really much wiggle room to improve on. For example, I thought the ending could have been done better. Joseph tricks his brothers into confessing their past crimes, reveals his true identity, forgives them, and they live happily ever after. It's true to the text, but not fantastic story structure.
>directed by Robert Ramirez and Rob LaDuca
Both came straight from directing home video movies. Ramirez directed the sequels of Brave Little Toaster, whereas LaDuca was a director on Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. They never worked at DreamWorks again after Joseph.
In other words, this is different from Antz, Prince of Egypt, Road to El Dorado, Shrek and Spirit. Those movies were directed by people who never directed a movie before, which was a deliberate choice by DreamWorks.
Prince of Egypt felt like a real ass film that was incidentally animated and religious.
King of Dreams felt like a very well made Sunday School Cartoon.

Most of the songs don’t hit the same marks as the original, however I do think “You know better than I” works better as an anthem on faith than “We you believe”. I like how the song basically says that life can and will absolutely suck through, often no fault of your own, and sometimes all you can do is press on and trust things will get better. That’s a pretty mature message for kids and it’s more gratifying to see Joseph get exonerated since we personally suffered with him every step of the way as opposed to the Hebrews.
Yes. It doesn't measure up to Prince of Egypt, but few animated movies do.
>Prince of Egypt: 91 minutes/30 seconds without credits
>Joseph: 70 minutes without credits
POE was one of the longest western animation movies back in 1998. It was also longer than all the movies from the Disney Renaissance.
Um 90 minutes is pretty typical animated movie length.
In its defense, that's mostly in line with the source material.
I like it more than Prince of Egypt, especially that it is part of the lore of the Bible that no one talks about.
Genesis and Exodus are practically the only old testament stories anyone knows, and the movie is no doubt a contributor to it

Yeah I rewatched it a couple years ago and it was pretty good.
I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking Road to El Dorado is the best 2D movie by DreamWorks. In many aspects, it's more enjoyable than Prince of Egypt.

what do?
How do I frick her without her husband killing me?
You gotta frick them both at the same time.
Make a B line straight back to your time machine when the deed is done.
Then accept whatever butterfly effect occurs the moment you arrive in 2024.

ironically that's why it's a better movie.

yes
It had a ton of sexy Egyptian girls
Everyone else in the thread pretty much nailed it.
Prince of Egypt is fantastic, and King of Dreams feels clotheslined by being DTV.
Nowhere near as good as POE, but pretty surprisingly damn good for a direct to video movie.
Yes, specially the Milf
