She cared about her patient's treatment that much that she didn't unload her personal shite onto him

She didn't give a solitary frick about treating Tony. The one and only reason she kept him as a "patient" was because it was exciting being that close to a mob boss.

Oh please, Milfi wasn't into the tabloid aspect of treating patient Soprano, not like her therapist Elliot

You say it like those two things can’t be true at once. Yes, she enjoyed the thrill of associating with a mob boss. Yes, she did genuinely find the things he did reprehensible and want him to acknowledge that, deep down, he does too.
>Noooo she totally cared
Then she's a fricking idiot for thinking she could help someone like Tony and a bigger idiot for taking seven years to realise she couldn't.

well yeah, that's why her arch ends with her realizing this and it took her so long because she was duped by a sociopath

She cared about feeling morally superior by adhering to her bullshit post modern ethics at the cost of letting a violent rapist go on to undoubtedly rape more women

She alerted the authorities. She was pissed when they let him go. It’s not like she was totally okay with him walking free to potentially do it again. Doesn’t mean she should morph into a killer to protect other women. She’s not the fricking Punisher.
She didn’t want him to know because it would have ruined the dynamic of their relationship. She saw herself as a strong woman, and if she told Tony she was raped, she would’ve switched to being a victim, and Tony being the one had the power and helped her, essentially giving him the power. Strong independent women hate to tell people they were raped especially she was probably going to get aroused again from talking about it with him
There absolutely is a way. She's a psychiatrist. Keeping something like that from her patient is essential to the work. They're taught that it's a big no-no for patients to learn any details about their life, especially intimate and vulnerable ones. It would go against all her training and experience, and would completely ruin the dynamic. To say nothing of the fact that if she reveals the rape to her mob boss patient, she's basically asking him to go kill the guy
>They're taught that it's a big no-no for patients to learn any details about their life, especially intimate and vulnerable ones. It would go against all her training and experience
Completely 100% wrong
If a therapist needs to connect with a patient they will. Melfi hides stuff from Tony because of the dynamic.
I learned mine was a ballet teacher on the side cause she liked it as a kid for instance
Therapists can decide how much they want to reveal about their lives, but they’d agree the less you know, the better. The relationship between therapist and patient is not a “normal” one. You’re not friends, just friendly.
When you’re seeing a therapist, the conversation is about you, it’s not some traditional back and forth.
A thing like that can be heavily tied to your own sense of character. And if she wanted Tony to reform, she'd be a huge hypocrite to ask him to kill a guy for her
Yes.
Sets up the narrative that all she has to do is tell Tony who it was and she'd get justice. But justice via his mob morality, not the "legit" law enforcement system.
Why did it have to be rape? Why couldn't it have just been a mugging or other crime? Not that I'm some one who's completely against the depiction of the act within a movie/show for the sake of drama, but the way they did it in The Sopranos was really cheap, weird, and embarrassing to see.
Because I don’t care what you have to say, I just like writing and reading my own words. I at most skim read something before I reply, and I barely process what I read
You should pick up journaling. I know you're putting all of that up in a fuss, but folks like that are pretty nice at poetry since they bother to care.
I’m of two minds about it. On one hand, it’s hard not feel like they didn’t use a pretty brutal rape scene as little more than a cheap plot device. Its main purposes in the story are to explain another layer of Melfi’s pathological attachment to Tony even at a time when she’s most recognizing how pointless and toxic the relationship is (i.e. the dangerous protector, the “bad boy who is good just for her”), and to yet again slap you in the face with the whole “following the rules gives you the moral high ground but makes you a sucker who can’t get shit done vs. being a criminal may show you to be a reprehensible person but also shows you to be someone who is willing and able to take matters into their own hands to get results” theme that is central to the show. Both of which are points that did not need the brutal rape of one of the shows more innocent characters (yes, I know melfi is guilty of enabling Tony) to make.
On the other hand, I think it’s hypocritical to take extreme issue with this scene in a show that is so graphic in its depictions of violence. Yes, it’s a tough scene to watch, but if this scene bothers you yet you don’t bat an eyelid at Ralphie beating the mother of his unborn child to death and shit like that, then that says more about your desensitization to violence than it does about the rape scene. And that might actually be a very poignant (and arguably necessary) way of Chase making the point he was trying to make for 6 seasons about the American audience’s bottomless appetite for violence and the suffering of others as entertainment.
No I am desensitized to rape, I just go on seedy sites and watch real rapes all of the time. If I see a woman crying I get erections now. I’m just joking. None of that is true of course. In fact, I find rape abhorrent, and if a woman isn’t into it, I don’t even feel like having sex at all. I fooled you twice now, I am into rape. No I’m not. I’m not into it. Or am I? No, the real answer is no. I was just pretending to as a joke
I don’t understand how so many people have this mindset where they take no issue in countless people being brutally murdered but a rape scene is just a bridge too far
they're called women. murder is a fantasy to them, not something real, so they don't view depictions of it as real. rape is something any and every man thinks about doing to them all the time, especially the nasty gross creeps, and could in fact do to them at a moment's notice and they would be powerless to stop, so they view it as an existential threat. don't forget, women are the primary victims of war, too, because they lose their male safety nets and protection structures!
Yeah, it’s sort of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You’re ok with it? You’re proving him right. Not okay with it? You’re a hypocrite cuz there’s no way you made it through three seasons of what they’ve shown you up to that point if you’re actually bothered by that kinda shit.
I kinda think Barbie leaves you with no way out like this too.
>have conflicting thoughts about a literal murdering criminal >maybe morals and ethics aren't just the bullshit laws that man has made up >get raped >no one says it directly but her ex-husband and people like him question what SHE was doing >this rapist fella can be dealt with in a matter of hours if she tells her patient/murdering criminal >"no, morals must prevail and we must go through proper civilized channels" >"golly ma'am, that sucks" says the constable >aaaaaaaaand fricking nothing happens, rapist goes free >pikachu_shocked.jpg >here endeth the lesson in npc-justice
Yes, it was necessary.
Rape is tool.
Tony should have known this and used it to his advantage many times even here.
but israeli writing strikes again.
that is why this will always be a 3/10 series and that is being generous.
Does it? I know she brings it up a few times after, but it honestly doesn’t have THAT much of an impact on her character. She’s right back at it in literally the next episode.
It's more that the audience knows she won't ever be act the victim, won't be taken in my Tony's world and that she isn't a hypocrite in her attempt to rehabilitate him
If they liked it, what would be the point of the rape? It wasn’t super fappable because of the camera angle and how she kept her clothes on. Also the rapist just jack rabbited her. All around, not a great rape
This show was such horse shit. It took itself way too seriously and had way too many random "deep" concepts and themes the moron showrunner wanted to throw into the script
This was the only episode I saw live. I was staying at a hotel with my family. My dad switched on the TV and it was this exact scene. He quickly shut it off when he started raping her. The family watched, not knowing what show it was, thinking she would be saved.
I’m sorry but that’s a great mental image. >Family decides to flip over to HBO >Brutal rape scene ensues >They watch in stunned silence thinking Batman would save her or something
Streaming took these experiences from us.
This was the first episode I watched on a whim and it put me off for a whole decade. Probably the first rape scene I ever saw since I was a young teen at the time.
>we need more diversity in movies and television! >role of president? Black male >role of super scientist? Black male >role of spider man? Black male >role of a rapist? >...um, how about a half Italian latino guy?
>get raped >don't tell mob boss patient >spend years treating him/putting up with his tantrums >see a study about sociopathy >become passive aggressive and kick him out
really no point in hiding it from him in the end
>I could improve society by getting rid of this rapist >but I wont do it because if I kill him I will be just like him!
did they hire anime writers just for this episode
Yes, sometimes Jesus finds you.
what?
Takes over DiMeo family...
DiMeow
Best character on the show
frick, my lastname is Rossi
>there are ''people'' that skip this scene
Literally yes, critical character development moment/episode.
>"Is there something you want to tell me?"
>"...no."
Most unrealistic plot in the whole show. There is absolutely no fricking way in hell she wouldn't have told Tony. No way. Not a fricking chance.
She had integrity
>Therapist
>Integrity
also
>woman
>integrity
but it's a tv show and we can pretend woman are human beings
Letting a violent rapist walk free shows integrity how exactly?
Because it kept her worklife professional and didn't sully the patient/doctor relationship
That’s even dumber than letting him walk for some moralistic judicial reason.
She cared about her patient's treatment that much that she didn't unload her personal shite onto him
She didn't give a solitary frick about treating Tony. The one and only reason she kept him as a "patient" was because it was exciting being that close to a mob boss.

How so?
If a therapist needs to connect with a patient they will. Melfi hides stuff from Tony because of the dynamic.
I learned mine was a ballet teacher on the side cause she liked it as a kid for instance
Was she a psychiatrist?

So just let a rapist get away with it to adhere to some made up ethical guidelines for your fake and gay “medical” profession
A thing like that can be heavily tied to your own sense of character. And if she wanted Tony to reform, she'd be a huge hypocrite to ask him to kill a guy for her
>Melfi tells Tony
>Tony has the guy killed
>Melfi is now in an incalculable debt to a man she knows to be a manipulative psychopath
Great plan
yeah, would have made for good drama in this drama
There's enough melodrama in the Sopranos, everyone acts like a hyper-emotional moron. A character acting sensibly is a breath of fresh air.
quads of rationality
Didn't she go to the police first?
For you
How hard did she cum?
Yes.
Sets up the narrative that all she has to do is tell Tony who it was and she'd get justice. But justice via his mob morality, not the "legit" law enforcement system.

I like rape.
why even reply to my post if you're not going to read it?
Because I don’t care what you have to say, I just like writing and reading my own words. I at most skim read something before I reply, and I barely process what I read
You should pick up journaling. I know you're putting all of that up in a fuss, but folks like that are pretty nice at poetry since they bother to care.
I can't control my horny level.
Because it had to be extreme enough that she would consider telling Tony about it. It also means more for her character when she decides not to
this thumbnail makes it look like she's playing with herself and it makes me feel bad because it turns me on
>Therapist
>The rapist
>Rapist
Should have become an analrapist.
Yes, it was necessary to show;
1. that latin people are criminal and untrustworthy 2. women are incompetent
wait I thought the rapist was Italian, I remember Richard sperging out about it in the hospital
Was he? Are wops called Jesus? I thought it was exclusively wetbacks that did that.
Yeah it proves how much of a misrable beta male Tony really is. Hes been seeing her for years and has no progress.
She gets raped and over comes the mental pain quite fast.

Been thinking about shekels lately?
"no"
Been thinking about pussy lately

It would be immoral to have the rapist killed. The only just thing to do is to leave him out in the world to rape as many people as possible.
>have conflicting thoughts about a literal murdering criminal

yea I dunno man, oppenheimer was a weird movie.
absolutely
Uh...why is she holding in the cum?
She’s finishing herself off
How many other characters “got away with it,” aside from Jesus and the guy who killed 16 czechoslovakians
>How many other characters “got away with it,”
Chrissy got away with shooting the guy's foot
>Guys who stole from Cristopher when he wanted to buy drugs
>Guys who mugged Bobby while he was collecting money
>tfw no one was there to buck break them
Possibly the least fappable rape scene of all time
and then it just turned into nothing
It developed her character

Im glad we have a pro rape reviewer to put me in my place
>All around, not a great rape
Any good rapekinos to recommend? Either male or female victims
Allah must punish her for tempting that stair dweller.
This show was such horse shit. It took itself way too seriously and had way too many random "deep" concepts and themes the moron showrunner wanted to throw into the script

Sopranos can almost be classified as half a comedy. Don't know what show you watched
This series aged very well.
This was the only episode I saw live. I was staying at a hotel with my family. My dad switched on the TV and it was this exact scene. He quickly shut it off when he started raping her. The family watched, not knowing what show it was, thinking she would be saved.

ok come over and ill rape you
