The mood is completely different, Suletta looks much more serious.

Gwiitch has less death than almost any Gundam shows, even if this was graphic, it's not a very dark show.

      >was it made before the rewrite of Gwitch?
Not possible, she has her school uniform.

Couldn't the show had started in the school and things got to shit after that? Notice how she's not even having the holder uniform.

      >rewrite
Proof or it didn't happen. I'd argue that the show was written week after week like most original anime.

It was said in an interview I believe.

The show was iterated on a lot but the narrative of 'the rewrite' isn't really supported from what I've seen. Just discussion that where they started was very different from where it ended up, not that there was some particular point close to airing that there was a radical overhaul.

Yeah the "rewrite" happened in 2020, so it's not like they canned a ton of material.

Not really, there was clearly a huge rewrite and the staff isn’t shy about mentioning that they went in a much different direction than they first anticipated

It seems that all they really did was pull back a bit from Permet being literal EXAM which is probably why red-eyed Aerial didn't happen in series.

Something interesting with the red eye stickers is that FM Aerial has no red eye option. So whatever final change around that happened, it was after the HGs were largely finalised but before the 1/100.

it's also not on the permet score 6. but the sticker template is still used, so you randomly get 2 green eye stickers

There was a big rewrite but it happened before any of the promotional material was made and even before any of the mechanical designs were done

I don't know, I feel like they had a plan up until they had to walk back Suletta's MKULTRA moment at the end of S1. The series was really leaning into the corpo side of Gundam since the meat of the crimes against humanity happen in the franchise, especially UC and anything involving Cyber Newtypes. Everything and everyone was a tool to be wielded, the cruel fate of Elan's body doubles, Suletta being a Puru becoming more obvious as time went on and Prospera going full LUST FOR REVENGE. Guel's arc and the intermission on Earth felt like what they originally wanted for S2 but something went wrong behind the scenes.

Are you on crack, S2 was the one with almost all the actually dark stuff in it (which isn’t much). S1 is all School Fun Times until the final episode

It couldn’t have been that far before promotional stuff because there’s still a good amount of promo that points to an entirely different story than the one we actually got.

No there isn’t, there’s like two seconds of Aerial fighting some Dilanzas and there’s a good chance that stuff was just made up for the promo

                Anonymous

There's really not. There's stuff that was deliberately designed to be mysterious in the lead-up to the full announcement of the show, because that's how you build hype. People made assumptions about it that didn't pan out, and instead of just shrugging and moving on with their lives they decided there was actually a bait-and-switch or some shit.

No there isn’t, there’s like two seconds of Aerial fighting some Dilanzas and there’s a good chance that stuff was just made up for the promo

Suletta's also wearing a normal suit we don't see in the show during that, it's the school one but in a red and white pattern instead of the regular grey or the Holder's white and gold. But that's more likely just either the art team not having locked down the Holder aesthetic yet or not wanting to give too much away.
A better conspiracy is where Suletta's Haro went. She's drawn with one like a pet in the first ED and her figurerise comes with one, but she barely even interacts with any of them in the show. That along with the red Aerial eyes is a much more plausible late change.

00 didn't invent Haro. If it was just a regular one following Suletta around it'd more likely be a UC callback.

I wonder if at some point they were planning on having Eri rebel against Prospera for Suletta's sake, instead of having Suletta take the full burden for her family.
If so, having the Haro acting as her eyes or something could be helpful.

It definitely would have because she could have been more involved and the reveal of Suletta being a repli-child and Eri being her older sister would bave been a lot more heartfelt if you knew that Eri was watching her the whole way instead of the few times we got to see Suletta in Aerial

                >reveal of Eri being her older sister would bave been a lot more heartfelt
It's not supposed to be heartfelt, it's horrifying knowing that the child from the prologue has been turned into a mobilesuit with almost no way of communicating with anyone.

                Anonymous

What do you mean? Something can be both horrifying and heartfelt. Horrifying that Eri has been trapped only in tech with limited communication options and heartfelt that she cared so much for Suletta that she’d take over a Haro just to make sure she was doing alright. I don:t get you guys who think it has to only be one or the other.

                Anonymous

If Eri was in a Haro she would still have her own agency and freedom to move around, something she can't do as Aerial until both score 8 and only within a data storm field. Changing that changes the entire story and Elnora's motivations.

                Anonymous

Do you think she’d be satisfied with a haro for a daughter? It wouldn’t change shit outside of keeping Eri as a really convenient character who you’re supposed to say “I get that reference” at. Her being a Haro who interacted with Prospera but couldn’t properly speak outside of basic Haro commands would only strengthen Elnora’s motivations in getting QZ going and ready because what mother wants to see their child be stuck in a robot that can’t enjoy anything? It)s part of why Eri being a fricking keychain is so mind boggling.

It’s still just a ball. Sure you can give it extra features or consoles but a haro will never be able to feel warmth in the same way as a human body could and a haro will never be able to convey the emotion a human face could. If the Haro could copy Eri’s voice, it would only serve as a driving factor even more than Aerial because being so close yet so far is a much greater motivation.

                Anonymous

She would still be able to hold her, care for her, and talk with her and a slew of other things she couldn't do with Aerial.

                Anonymous

She can do all of that with Aerial, the only difference is ease of portability but that alone makes it a much more encouraging thing. She can tend to Aerial and care for it but caring for a Haro is like caring for a pet compared to caring for a car. Having your daughter as a pet is still pretty disheartening but it’s encouraging in terms of the final goal.

Keychain is quite literally a downgrade to endgame Aerial when it got to a permet score high enough to be self autonomous. Eri gets a taste of freedom for a short while and then has it taken away just as quickly.

Her ending was honestly a joke. Even if the show tries to display it in a positive light it's not convincing at all.

The only thing horrifying about G-Witch is how moronic the staff is. We've already been through shit like EXAM and DOME. Even the kids shows like Divers and ReRise had an on screen genocide and deleting electronic lifeforms that could only exist in an MMO.

00’s orange haro was pretty iconic and G-witch didn’t need 1 more point against it’s originality for copying that to. If it was a different color haro it probably wouldn’t have mattered but making it orange is what probably killed it

They realized early on that they were just making a shitty copy of Ecole Du Ciel that goes from the Federation pilot school, to space pirates, to joining the AEUG. They scrapped it and just made Unicorn + NT, and when they realized people figured it out that GWitch is just a shitty rehash of a rehash they started throwing Gundam X at the storyboards and gunpla lines.
There was no thought in this show. They didn't even bother exploring the only setting they had for 90% of the show. They spend less time in class than Judau and the delinquents did in ZZ when they went to school because Judau didn't want to be gainfully employed.

You’re acting like any of S1 was well done when it was pretty obvious that most things were going to turn out the way they did. They planned it like that after the rewrite because they were adhering to the Tempest and did so the entire time

They weren't leaning into anything. It was all just a lazy rehash of the Vist Foundation, the La Place terrorist attack putting in the hardliner Feddies, Anaheim controlling the Federation, psychoframe NT-D newtype magic, etc.
The series wasn't leaning into anything beyond that. They didn't even tell you who the corporations were even selling their weapons to or what battlefields were being utilized. They didn't even bother throwing out some random "conflicts escalating on Titan between separatists and colonies" or some shit until way later in the series and that was just Earth rebels and nothing more.
It was just Unicorn and NT. That's all it was. Right down to rainbow sparkle hand waves. Their only plan was dress everyone in school outfits because they heard some kids say they don't like robots.
Seriously, Zeta spends more time on Anaheim double dealing and that's a side note to the greater civil war than the show that's supposedly all about space corporation alliance ruling everything, oops it's actually space glowies cause colony laser scene teehee.

Based on the teaser and title I thought G-Witch was gonna be about some school/institution that was being used to produce this AU’s equivalent of newtypes/cyber-newtypes(called witches) and it would take place on space colonies orbiting Mercury. I imagined the setting would feel very cold and artificial like the megastructure of Tsutomu nihei’s blame or Sidonia.
Story would’ve been about the kids gaining their agency and breaking out and heading towards earth to find freedom.

To elaborate a bit more I imagined something like Bokurano. One Gundam, bunch of kids escape the institute and fight their way to earth. They all take turns piloting it until they reach earth with maybe one or two survivors. Final duel would be a Re-entry battle between the MC in the Gundam against an old friend from the institute.
Now that the show is over I could see the Peil faction orchestrating something like that.

Could have easily been El5n and Norea if the latter didn't get wasted on a redundant second school shooting. Both share the same motivation to not die pointless deaths as pawns for their higher ups, escape to Earth but get chased by Peil/Ochs Earth.

If the writers weren't in such a rush to wrap up GWitch and abandon Ad Stella we could have gotten some nice S3/spinoff plotlines.

At the very least, there should be some lessons Banrise learned from making G-Witch. This was the 1st (?) Gundam AU under the new Bandai Namco Filmworks structure. More conventional use of CG and compositing compared to the last AU (probably because of slightly more budget).

I hope so, especially if one lesson is never recruit people who really don't know what it means to make a Gundam story (you can count on one hand how many mecha stories, Gundam or not, Hiroshi Kobayashi was involved in and Ichiro Okouchi never cared for how a mecha story ought to work, especially if it's Gundam).
