Top Gun is an original IP. If you want a new IP or one-off that reaches that status just say so, but fricking Inception certainly was not one. All of Nolan's movies with the exception of the Batman films are not normie-friendly movies. You'd have a better time arguing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
And don't (You) me with some gay ticket sales and the enthusiasm of the audiences in Lahor and the Bing Bong Providence of China because i'm not trying to hear that spin, friendo. Avatar can get fricked. Only authentic kino films acceptable to real American kinosseurs, the world's tastemakers.
Tarantino fellating 60's Hollywood isn't complex or hard to understand. But what even is your core argument, that mass audiences didn't see Inception? Because the $300 million domestic gross and "inception" becoming popular nomenclature would beg to differ

If you were older than 10 when it came out, you would have heard people saying "inception" as a synonym for mindfrick or tongue-in-cheek for something mildly confusing

Fricking moron
becoming popular nomenclature =/= invented
It took on a new slang meaning that was in common use. Normalgays weren't commonly saying "inception" to mean "beginning" prior to its release.
What, do you think the slang terms "gaslight" and "catfish" were used as they are now prior to their respective movies being released?

What happened to the female lead? She delivered a strong performance and looked as good as ever, yet it seems her career went off the rails afterwards. I know she was in a few decent movies like Woody Allen's Rome project, that X-Men soft reboot or the lesbian flick with She Monke but nothing big ever since Inception.
I'm not much of a hater of capeshit as some, but those movies have really eaten up blockbuster potential
biggest names, biggest production, biggest marketing, it just takes away from another movie that could be made of the same size
>Anons ITT struggling to understand what it means to be an Original IP.
Kek. I swear most of you are lower IQ than plebbit. That being said it's kind of mind boggling that we haven't gotten a lot of original IP blockbusters outside of the occasional Nolan and maybe Tarantino(if we are strectching the definition of blockbuster) shit the past decade.

I genuinely think people who think Inception is just Paprika, aside from a few similar scenes, are autistic because the plot, how it represents dreams, and every other aspect are completely different. It's like when people kept saying Lion King was a ripoff of Kimba because no one had actually watched Kimba, when it was really actually closer to Macbeth with lion (and Inception is very much just a heist movie with scifi elements)
tenet
Interstellar was a few years later
Garbage in every department but cinematography

That's a whole lot of shit you just typed out but the reality is Top Gun: Maverick is not based on an original idea
>the reality is Top Gun: Maverick is not based on an original idea
Unlike Inception which, as we all know, is the most original film ever made
Top Gun Maverick is a sequel, Inception is not. Fricking smartass
the image doesnt even make sense
>compares an infinite hallway to 'gravity' moving around
>compares the world folding in on itself to a parade
Inception had plenty of enthusiasm in the States, meets every definition of blockbuster, and is certainly more normalgay friendly than OUaTiH
>and is certainly more normalgay friendly than OUaTiH
Just because you and other zoomers didn't get it doesn't mean nobody else did.
I believe OP specified good films only

It actually might be. The definition of blockbuster became muddled right after that because of capeshit.
It genuinely was Inception. Virtually every other blockbuster in the past decade is a franchise film
Can't stand Nolan's later work, but Inception is the happy medium. Good flick.
>great

Bad b8
>ripped off multiple decade old anime

Inception was really moronic. Lets put a dream in a dream in a dream in a dream to confuse people into thinking its not moronic but high iq.
The whole film is clearly a dream
one thing is for sure, it made me sleepy as hell
this made me chuckle anon I just wanted you to know

According to box office (non inflation adjusted) it's Zootopia.
