This. He didn't start trying with AJ until it was too late, instead he tore him down and bullied him whenever he could as a kid then got angry at him for having no self confidence as an adult. Meanwhile Meadow got away with everything. It was really nice though how meadow and AJ stayed close though throughout the show despite the unequal treatment. Pretty realistic tbh.
i think the only difference between the two is tony grew up knowing he would inherit his father's place in the mafia and AJ didn't. he clearly had the criminal aptitude, if Tony didn't exclude him from it and took him under his wing then he would have ended up the exact same. pretty much the only good move he made as a parent was keeping AJ away from the life.
AJ was trying to live up to his father's standard. His whole arc is that he went from not even understanding what his father was to succombing to constant social pressure to live up to his father's name. AJ's season 6 dabble in crime and clubs and shit was his attempt to actually fulfill that ambition, only to realize that he can't because he's just a softy, which intensifies his depression, leading to his suicide attempt.
Nah him hanging out with patsy and Carlos kids show he’s not cut out for that lifestyle. When they’re kicking the shit out of the black dude/ Burning the kids toes off with acid
Tony was a degenerate criminal and a murderer. So no. AJ had no chance.
You don't think someone can be a bad man but a good father?
Nope.
don't see how it would work. You can't just discover a moral compass when you get home after work
I think it's possible to be a good man and a bad father. Look at Marcus Aurelius.
The real one, or the fictional one in Gladiator...
yes
Yes, but Tony still wasn't a good father.
No. It's connected to their IQ and general sociopathy. Look at black kids.

Holy shit he's literally me
Was it a cry for help or was he genuinely too stupid to realize the rope was too long?
No Tony was a terrible father

>he clearly had the criminal aptitude
who, AJ? I think he was a pussy and not very bright, no way he would have lasted.
AJ was a pussy because of the way he was raised.
it seemed like they were headed towards AJ getting into crime just before he became all suicidal and shit

yeah now i recall that scene where his friends are beating the shit out of someone and he seems kind of disgusted

Tony was a boomer nepo baby who couldnt make varsity football of course he was a shit father
This would've been a better son
Tony Soprano having a nonverbal autistic son would have made for a much more interesting show.
How can he be blamed when *this* is his male heir?
>Tone, muh boi!
