He was getting offered to do all this supplementary content such as attending events, interviews, guest starring on stuff, some sort of shared content creator house where they'd vlog like a content creator Big Brother? But he had to decline it as his brand was all about the secret identity.
But that's where he went catastrophically wrong, his brand was ALL about the secret identity. His merch was selling the masks he wore, the buzz was about what he looked like, the anonyminity was part of his appeal as it harkened back to a time in the 2000s where content creators didn't share their life, or shared their face and shove their face in everything and had a ton of social media, one where it was just purely about the content and that was his appeal, it wasn't about him but the content.
The face reveal went against that, all for some extra bonus appearance bucks. In the end he appeared on one Mr. Beast video where he hardly appeared, some influencer cooking competition, got a bunch of grooming accusations against him, and put the mask back on but it failed.
There's tons of analytical and commentary videos on Youtube about how it all went wrong. Most conclude the same thing: The reason why Dream was so strong with the mask was because it was a persona he could hide behind, he was a brand, and brands are untouchable. When he removed the mask he became a person, and we saw all his insecurities and his actual personality which wasn't great, he IS a very insecure and needy and an annoying person and it started to seep into his content, and since he was now a person not a brand, people could make fun of HIM rather than just some drawings or a voice, and the stuff they'd say would hurt, and of course in came the false accusations. He was getting offered to do all this supplementary content such as attending events, interviews, guest starring on stuff, some sort of shared content creator house where they'd vlog like a content creator Big Brother? But he had to decline it as his brand was all about the secret identity.
But that's where he went catastrophically wrong, his brand was ALL about the secret identity. His merch was selling the masks he wore, the buzz was about what he looked like, the anonyminity was part of his appeal as it harkened back to a time in the 2000s where content creators didn't share their life, or shared their face and shove their face in everything and had a ton of social media, one where it was just purely about the content and that was his appeal, it wasn't about him but the content.
The face reveal went against that, all for some extra bonus appearance bucks. In the end he appeared on one Mr. Beast video where he hardly appeared, some influencer cooking competition, got a bunch of grooming accusations against him, and put the mask back on but it failed.
There's tons of analytical and commentary videos on Youtube about how it all went wrong. Most conclude the same thing: The reason why Dream was so strong with the mask was because it was a persona he could hide behind, he was a brand, and brands are untouchable. When he removed the mask he became a person, and we saw all his insecurities and his actual personality which wasn't great, he IS a very insecure and needy and an annoying person and it started to seep into his content, and since he was now a person not a brand, people could make fun of HIM rather than just some drawings or a voice, and the stuff they'd say would hurt, and of course in came the false accusations. The most happy Youtubers are the small - mid scale Youtubers, who have a small tight knit community that they get to know. The ones who mostly do it as a hobby or a side hustle for money.
