watched the barbie movie (its trash)

worst issue: LITERALLY NOTHING CHANGED. there was a matriarchy at the beginning of the movie, and there was a matriarchy at the end of the movie. Ken literally just reads up on this idealistic version of the patriarchy and attempts to implement it without any thought whatsoever, and the barbies JUST GO ALONG WITH IT??!?!?!?!? WHAT THE FRICK?!?!?! "ohh ohhh its like smallpox" SHUT THE FRICK UP THAT IS BULLSHIT AND YOU KNOW IT. Ken was genuinely just treating the barbies like the barbies had treated the kens all their life, and margot robbie couldnt survive ONE FRICKING DAY like that. Absolute horseshit. Not to mention the barbies' plan to retake the goverment is actually so evil and no one calls them out on this??? I love me some mass emotional manipulation from the people who are supposed to be the heroes. Literally the only bearable part of this movie was ryan gosling. He DESERVED that oscar nomination. GRETA GERWIG AND MARGOT ROBBIE DO NOT.

Anyways yeah dont watch it it is trash

My mom and I stopped the movie exactly at the halfway point because we both realized it was just gonna circle back in on itself like you said OP.

i was holding out a glimmer of hope that maybe, MAYBE, they would have some common sense and realize that Barbieland and The Kendom were both bad systems and that the Barbies and the Kens could share power, but nope. Misandry. Fricking garbage.

        >circle back
It’s a modern Hollywood film, of course it wasn’t going to be intentionally based. Much, if not most of the popularity is because of Ken(s) - Barbie is pretty boring in comparison. It is a glimpse into a theoretical matriarchal utopia, and anyone who isn’t a hyper feminist immediately sees it as a nightmare, to the point of comedy. I’m reminded of that news article meme
        >dutch WWII museum shuts down because guests were interpreting it incorrectly
I think there were even some reeees like nooo you can’t like the movie because of Ken! Misogynist!
On the WWII note, the fascism joke did get a genuine laugh from me

What's funny is Barbie returned to her world to reimplement matriarchy (the way she wants things) only to go back to the real world and live under patriarchy. The ending was a total woman moment. lmao

You weren’t supposed to actually watch Barbie. Those were jokes people were making you autist.

Ryan was a good actor. He was the only bearable part of the movie, and while I though I'm Just Ken felt forced in as a musical number, it was a decent song.

You missed the entire point of the movie. Don't feel bad, a lot of people did.

oh really? enlighten me, sir. what was the point?

It's very simple: it boils down to the ability to reproduce. The Barbie society is basically what happens when nobody has the power to have children. You should be able to figure the rest out from there.

If a lot of people missed the point, that says something about how good a job the writers did at conveying their point (they did a bad job)

Not really. They were trying to make a VERY esoteric point and did it just right. The problem wasn't the movie, it was the brainwashed audiences with nearly no ability to think critically about the society that they're all living in.

shut up the movie's trash it has no coherent point and it's made by a misandrist.

            >t. uninitiated
It is, ironically, not actually misandrist, despite what you might initially be led to believe. I could bang on and on about the esoteric symbolism in the film and which characters were supposed to be who, but you won't care either way so there's no real point. The short version is that while it wasn't the best film of last year (that was Minus One by a lot) it was certainly the most important.

    >greta gerwig
I came upon the “making of I’m just Ken” video on YouTube. Light and breezy little video without much substance but it was amazing how often it focused in on her. The song is pretty gay but obviously a men’s space- imagine the reverse for a “making of” video of some feminist power ballad like beyonce or taylor swift slop and it just keeps zooming in on the one guy in the studio hahah

    >Not to mention the barbies' plan to retake the goverment is actually so evil and no one calls them out on this???
yes, they emotionally manipulated the Kens to overthrow the government and re-instate an apartied regime - using "brain-washing" as the justification.
The Barbies seemed - and said they were - happy and had to be convinced by humans that they weren't.
All because of "brain-washing" which we never saw, was never mentioned, and is not something guys who "beach" could be capable of.

the song the Kens sing is about a woman who was chronically abusive to her boyfriend.

But somehow people see this whole section of the movie as "charming"? wtf

yeah the kens were literally treating the barbies the exact same way the barbies were treating the kens but the barbies are the good guys because either A) they've been in power longer, or B) misandrist directors.

it's misandrist propaganda for our youth, kids movies are some of the most influential movies ever because they affect the youth.
