Watched this for the first time in about 15 years. It's simply not very good, not even for something released in 1977.
How did Star Wars become so popular? Was it hype that they built before this movie came out? Did they shill merchandise from the offset? It can't have been the quality of the movie.
wow thats crazy
it's good and your taste is simply whack
Name five things that are good.
As a child, A New Hope was always the most boring of the Original Trilogy in my opinion. Tied for Phantom Menace as most boring. Okay that's mild hyperbole, but as a child who tried to make many movie marathons (before AOTC, or ROTS came out), I always felt obligated to watch the 2 boring Star Wars movies, before I got to the good ones, Empire and Jedi.
A New Hope is weird if you think about it as a standalone movie, with no sequels, prequels or any lore at all. Imagine if this really was the only Star Wars (1977) movie that ever existed. The force is mentioned but never really seen and only used in like 2 scenes. Obi-Wan senses the destruction of Alderaan, and Luke shuts off his targetting computer. If it was the only movie that ever existed, you could re-interpret the last scene in ANH as Luke being a really good/lucky shot having a personal moment, but not literally having force powers.
The lightsabers don't really get much action in the movie either. They are introduced in one scene, and there is that one fight scene. There was an autistic video that went over ever instance of a word being uttered in ANH, and the word lightsaber was only used once.
Anyway, imagine Star Wars discussions if ANH was the only Star Wars product ever made. Imagine what the speculation and fan fiction would look like. Would it be better or worse?
you're such a moron it's incredible
How am I moronic?
>The force is mentioned but never really seen and only used in like 2 scenes. Obi-Wan senses the destruction of Alderaan, and Luke shuts off his targetting computer.
I find your lack of memory disturbing
>The force is mentioned but never really seen and only used in like 2 scenes. Obi-Wan senses the destruction of Alderaan, and Luke shuts off his targetting computer
Luke training with the visor down.
Obi-Wan's body vanishing / 'Run, Luke, run!'.
Force choke.
THESE AREN'T THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.
The entirety of the "Hype" was caused by the Special Effects alone and that was about it.
No other film looked like it beforehand andit could only Trump itself with sequels until the late 80s when film tech effects finally caught up in the era before CGI.
Literally only popular due to special effects alone.
Lucas was a guy who built elaborate miniature sets of industrial cityscapes only to blow them up for a 3 second shot.
Special effects
Try not being on your phone at the same time homosexual.
I rewatched it recently and couldn't believe the build up and suspense at the end. Classic movie magic. Totally forgot about Han coming back to save the day at the last second and was so sucked into it was epic moment just like the first time I saw it. Great movie on every level.
Totally destroys gay CURRENT YEAR shit, and actually my favourite of the OT.
Agreed. The original Star Wars is still the best movie ever made, tied with the Wizard of Oz. Deal with it.
Would even say best movie ever made, but works for the same reasons good movies work.
because blockbusters didn't exist back then
>mfw when morons who said the prequels were always good are now saying the originals were always shit
Frick me in a few years I'm going to be frickers saying that the sequels were good the whole time aren't I?
>implying it is the same group of morons saying both things.
>one day we´ll realize that SW as a whole is shit
>It's simply not very good
that sounds like something a MASSIVE homosexual would say
If you said this around me in person I would punch you in the nuts for being a homosexual about Star Wars
>Anon wants to touch OP's nuts
>this makes OP the homosexual and not Anon.
You got filtered, OP. Simple as.
Christ I don't even like star wars but I wouldn't say something so naive and embaressing
Yeah, never got why boomers liked it. It was bad as an action movie and as a scifi story. The only thing I liked is part 1 until Luke met the jedi guy.wkn20
I saw it in the theaters when it opened. No one had seen FX like that before. It was all cheezy stuff like original Star Trek tier. It was so big it restructured the entire business to the blockbuster model.
The Death Star Attack / Trench run is one of the greatest finales in movie history.
I remember falling sleep while watching this movie.
The first, fourth, whatever is actually the only movie I like. I don't understand how people think the ice planet one is better, and the third of the original movies sucks dick. The first also feels largely resolved at the end, never should have been a series
have a nice day. You are nothing. No one will care.
