Just rewatched it. Fucking blows. Matthew Broderick was terrible casting it's crazy how uncharismatic he is as an adult. Only good thing was that milfy redhead from news radio
It's garbage. I only watched for the curly blonde qt.
For fuck sake, they do the same thing twice. The fish bait thing.
It was laughable when Star Wars did it over three movies with the Death Star. They did it twice, omg whyyyy
Emmerich's Godzilla does that within forty minutes. Even Jean Reno can't save that fucking calamity.
Is that the 2014 one in which the giant CGI monster is more expressive in its emotions than the basic white undercoat lead character?
That movie was crap too.
I liked it, just not a Godzilla movie. Literally just a generic dino kaiju
It's kino and I'm tired of pretending it's not
It's a perfectly fine 5.5/10 movie and a glorious popcorn time.
Watched it for the first time after watching about 12 other Godzilla movies. Is decent, at the end it's so ridiculous it's actually really fun.
Based, I completely agree with you. I almost can't believe it's been 25 years now since Godzilla 98 came out.
Best Godzilla movie of all, bar none. Wish they'd made a sequel and had some big kaiju fights, but at least they did that in the cartoon
>when a perfectly above average hot actress's career dies after one big film
The real tragedy
>So good. Underrated af. Overhated too!
Only good thing about this was the cartoon show it spawned
But that's dead wrong.
Read the original script if you ever get the chance. It couod have been something amazing before it got Emmerich'd
>Read the original script if you ever get the chance
I did, so glad Emmerich happened.
1998
CONS!
> Lack of classic Godzilla's aggressiveness & invulnerability.
> Arguably too much time playing Jurassic Park with the babies (I was fine with it)
> Arguably too much time spent on romance (didn't bother me the last time I watched it)
> CGI for the babies doesn't hold up.
PROS!
> God tier score & opening credits.
> Great first attack on NYC, handled in a realistic disaster manner similar to how Gamera 3 handled it although less bleakly.
> Fantastic submarine battle.
> Good Helicopter chase.
> Cool military porn that isn't ever "America fuck yeah-ish"
> Godzilla's death scene is extremely well done regardless of the disappointment of him being killed by normal missiles.
> Godzilla's classic nuclear origin & nature remains intact they just swapped America for France.
> Decent to good overall cast. Reno is solid. Broderick is a bit meek but still a likable enough non annoying lead.
> Zilla's design is solid just not for being Godzilla.
> CGI for the adult Godzilla holds up reasonably well.
> Practical effects for the babies is decent (their heads are a bit oversized).
External opportunities it presented & took advantage of!
> Spawned the fantastic animated series.
External opportunities it denied us!
> It assfucked us out of the beautiful looking Stan Winston (rip) Godzilla movie.
Definitely 10/10 aesthetic.
Broderick was miscast. The chick needed to show more of her body.

It's shocking how many absolute bangers of the 90s and 00s were critically scathed.
Proof that critics have always been morons
it's because they happeend after a better era. Now you see them as great becasue you live in way worse era

Broderick brings it down.
It's literally better than the 2008 remake.
That one is absolute garbage.
>the 2008 remake
The what?

I like the rain and it's one of the most comfy movies to watch. But still one of the worst goji adaptation.
Beautiful girl.
