Watching this for the first time, the moment Yoda came on screen this movie has become magical. God it's amazing, you were right
Watching this for the first time, the moment Yoda came on screen this movie has become magical. God it's amazing, you were right
The middle act that goes back in forth between Luke training on Dagobah and Han and Leia hiding from the Empire is just filler
Filtered. Yoda’s “luminous beings” speech is possibly the best scene in the entire franchise. And it was a fricking puppet
This.
The philosophy there might be fortune cookie like, but it's "magical" moments like this that gave the original movies heart.
In spite of all the technology, the original message was that faith was stronger and could save you.
No it's not, you clown. It's continuing to get to know the fricking characters that we barely got to know in the first movie, which have changed a great deal between movies.
>it's continuing to
Aka filler
>All of the character development and worldbuilding in the movie is filler
you're filler
>peak of the franchise and it’s not even directed by george lucas
fricking lmao
Everyone knows that you moron.
Well, he didn't until now.
It's a very good film, the novelization was also an enjoyable read.
Its one of the best movies ever made, maybe the best if you take pretentious shit like Citizen Kange out, and the one George Lucas had the least input in.
CK isn't even top 50, ESB is arguably the best movie of 80s although Shining is tough competition
Nah, there is no way a movie made with such incredible technical skill and artistic passion as Empire loses to pic related.
>Is the dark side stronger?
>No, easier. More seductive
Best part of the movie.
Reminder Luke ordered my sweet boy, Dak to fire the rear gun even though he told Like there was a malfunction in fire control that caused the system to explode in his face, killing him instantly.
DEADDAK
They never forgot
I always thought that Luke reaching into the Speeder as the walker bore down on him was Luke trying to save Dak, holding onto some hope that he was still alive, but it turns out I was just moronic and he was going for the grapple gun and I'm literally the only person who has ever thought that wasn't what Luke was doing
>dACK
Yeah, she was clearly fricking every male on set
God Carrie's VCard count must have been through the roof
>VCard
is this a term you just overheard other people using but don't really know what it means?
She took a lot of peoples' virginity. Good morning, zoomer/sir
Just finished it, not sure how a movie can get much better than this. Yeah you have Lynch and other arthouse, but as far as mainstream blockbusters this is basically the best shit ever
Cloud City is still my favorite location in star wars.
The third act sucked. Luke abandoning his training after a few days to fall into a obvious trap and then trying to kill himself after losing to Vader made him extremely pathetic. He nearly fricked the whole galaxy because he didn't listen to Yoda.
It's a shame all the movie shows about the city are corridors and more corridors.
Shut up Yoda, you b***h. Your advice sucks wiener
>Your mother's being tortured to death as we speak? Have you ever tried just not giving a shit?
>So what if your wife dies in childbirth, rejoice that her consciousness is swallowed by eternal oblivion in the Force and you won't meet again even in death 🙂
Space yourself out of the nearest airlock.
>this guy has never been to a big city with all the big city corridors
go watch the sequels, rey never makes mistakes like that
ever
David Lynch was Lucas' top pick to direct Return of the Jedi but it gave Lynch headaches. It's still a great movie with a really shitty and boring middle section
Op prepare for a huge downgrade, ROTJ blows dick. Like prequel bad
The opening on Tatooine, space battle and throne room scenes makes up for the rest of the movie to me.
the ending is what makes the entire trilogy (before George added the NOOOOOOOO to it like a moron)
The entire trilogy got worse everytime George went back and fricked with it. It's why fans always hated him until Disney bought it. The untouched theatrical releases of the OT and the PT Blurays are fine. But now that Disney is making things 10 times worse George's atrocities seem significantly less egregious.
>the PT Blurays are fine
I know what you mean, but TPM's was botched. We still don't have a good home release of TPM. It's decent enough for casual watching but it relies on the same master they used for the 3D release which was DNR'd to hell. You'll notice how lacking it is no matter what kind of monitor/TV you're watching it on.
Had they introduced a padawan for Luke at the end like Yoda it basically would have been perfect & tied into the sequel trilogy
Lucas was not interested in making sequels. His trilogy and story were complete. The only thing that kept Star Wars present and thriving for the next decade was the EU.
>Like prequel bad
Hold on, it's not THAT bad. ROTJ is the weaker of the OT but it's still better than the prequels and the sequels.
Absolute drama queen.
It does not you fricking drama llama. It ties everything up neatly and is intense as hell.
Mark probably had one sip of that beer before handing it to someone else while Carrie was expecting him to pound the whole thing
he made it up to her by pounding her whole thing
Carrie went on record that they tried to sleep together but both kept laughing so they stopped. Brother and sister tbh.
>brother sister tbh
For her maybe, fricking tease. Mark wanted a piece of the Carrie Carousel and she laughed at him, even in that picture you can see how much he wanted a piece while she was just playing with him.
Oof that'd be terrible. I'll choose to believe it was a mutual laughter situation.
Brewski Beer Me Leia
I don't think it's as bad as the prequels, but it's definitely closer to TPM in quality than TESB.
This is one of the worst takes to have emerged in recent times. The highlights of Jedi are so high they redeem the mediocre parts of the film. Even as a 8/10 film, it is still a 10/10 finale. Stop seething about ewoks you gay.
It's not JUST the Ewoks. There's a reason the first two movies are preserved by the library of congress and RotJ isn't.
RotJ was added a few years ago, but that was after both of the other OT films had been in there for 20+ years
>preserved by the library of congress
which versions though... theatrical or altered? lol
Lucas refused to provide an un-altered cut, so they don't actually have the films preserved at all.
what a gay
Star Wars was never as good again, or even any good at all, unless you count Andor and the earlier parts of The Mandalorian.
I don’t know how they did it, but all the Yoda stuff is still perfect to this day. It’s gotta be some kind of magic.
Frank Oz was one of the few Henson-tier puppet master nerds to ever live, and George was smart enough to hire him.
>George was smart enough to hire him.
Well George asked for Jim personally but Jim told him Oz was on the level George was looking for.
Thankfully George chose to trust Jim.
Good on you for not binging them, OP. I give you joy of watching RotJ for the first time, and seeing a young Carrie Fisher in her space bikini.
Why is it Carrie looks so much sexier in set photos than in the actual movies?
You need your eyes examined bub. She was cute and sexy and tough without being a dyke c**t.
>you were right
>Star Wars, directed by John Boorman.
thoughts?
THE LIGHTSABER IS GOOD
THE PENIS IS EVIL
take note Disney, SOUL is what made Star Wars timeless.

>Best song in the series was never used
TF homie?
What continues to piss me off is that we lost the Jabba's Barge Jazz Ensemble. Someone needs to use some kind of AI shit to reconstruct it.
THX 1338 > Star Wars
>ta nowa! Oo nee tey!
Did Lucas put in a bunch of after the fact CGI and change shit in this one? It's very distracting in Star Wars. Just give me the theatrical cut that I grew up with.
>Did Lucas put in a bunch of after the fact CGI and change shit in this one?
yes, but its not that bad in Empire
holy shit can you imagine if George replaced Yoda with a CGI yoda lmao I honestly cant believe that DIDNT happen
It did in the Phantom Menace
yeah but im talking like George replaces Empire Yoda with mid 2000s CGI yoda. There would have been riots.
Yes, Cloud City has windows now.
There's literally nothing wrong with that. Those are the bottom tier, least changes of any that he made. And they do improve it because a beautiful location like Cloud City definitely did deserve more exterior shots and scenes instead of blank hallways due to budget.
a movie from 1980 having ugly 1996 cgi in it is distracting and it completely fricks with the lighting and color grading of the movie
We still have the DeSpecialized Editions.
It annoys me that they changed the voice of boba fett to that kiwi guy.
It's not that bad, it's for the millennials who grew up with the prequels, SWBF2 and Republic Commando. Both are fine.
?si=2GQPcIx0DAWC6LvU
nah, the original voice actor's delivery is far better
Yeah, he sounds like this sinister motherfricker.
>he doesn't have all despecialized editions of the original trilogy.
Ah yes, Star Wars... HOWEVER.
I should really try to play KOTOR 2 again. I loved the first one but every time I try to play the second I just get bored like 30 minutes in.
Best Star Wars medium of all time quite easily and the best bioware game, however the pacing goes to shit when you reach the final two planets (Sith, forest)
Why do so many people laugh at this scene? It's unironically kino. I genuinely do not get it.
%3D%3D
The most overrated movie ever made
what went wrong?
Endor and Ewoks mostly. The rest of the movie is great
They didn't have enough Wookie-sized people to make it work. So they went with hobbit furries instead. Deal.
they should revive that wookie idea for andor season 2. imagine wookies murdering hundreds of stormtroopers brutally
I don't think Disney will be able to afford Andor S2 after they have to shelve every current Star Wars production. Maybe if they sell ESPN they can try to keep Lucasfilm afloat.
It's already in production, thank God. We have GOT to see what happens with Isla She Wolf of the Empire and Autistic Cop.
Andor went under their nose and actually got made. Gilroy admitted that Lucasfilm forgot it was even greenlit and he was able to do it with basically no supervision. So it will either never happen or they'll neuter S2 tremendously.
Lucas was exhausted.
Yeah, not-directing a movie must be so tiresome
>he showed me these things called "wookies" and I started to get a headache
kek, I'm glad Lynch didn't do ROTJ and went on to do Dune. Obviously Dune's failure hurt him but if it weren't for that he probably wouldn't have created any of the great stuff he made afterward.
The OT really is that good, yes. Personally I like A New Hope (Hate calling it that) the best, but it and Empire are so good I can't fault anyone for choosing either as the best one. ROTJ has it's stupid moments but still has an incredible conclusion. All kino.
