Was there ever a good Archie cartoon? If I recall, even the riverdale gang was kind of bleh in the old sabrina cartoon, despite how cute sabrina was in it. -

they're all terrible if you love the Archie characters do not seek out the old cartoon from the 70's.
it's very much what the Simpson parody is but with worst voice acting.
the 70's Sabrina is a better than Archie but it's just Hanna-Barbera's rip of of bewitched.
    they're both on YouTube

        it is what it is.
the live action is typical TGIF sitcom stuff. The cartoon was low budget late 90s stuff. Not too offensive at the time, but looks its age now.

The Filmation one is fine for what it is, certainly the closest in spirit to the usual comics

I wonder why so many Archie cartoons fail to do what readers like, when the same sort of chemistry is so common in a 100 thousand animes

Romcom anime and manga are aimed at teens and draws their characters especially the girls to be "sexy"

Classic Archie is all ages comedy not romcom, and it usually only goes for "pretty", and it can't shake the inherent comedy comic goofiness in its DNA except by going full grimdark moron, at which point it's not really Archie

anon, have you read anything old?

The comic started out by targeting early teen boys and girls. Or young adults with functioning sex drives. And it leaned male. The comics had pinups and betty and veronica were sold as a fantasy to teen boys much like harem anime is sold as a fantasy to young japanese teen boys. It was pretty typical to see ads for atlas weight training programs and bicycles since it was targeted at preteen and teen boys and some girls.

At some point they figured out that not a lot of teen boys were reading the comic, and most of their readers were 13 year old girls that liked to watch betty and veronica compete with each other AND all the fancy clothes the girls had. They got rid of the weight lifting course ads, made the girls less curvy and replaced the pinups with paper dolls and fashion pages.

why did boys stop reading? I'm going to take a wild guess that it was in magazines getting better color photography and paper and things like playboy becoming more widespread in distribution and availability. People take it for granted but there was a time before big glossy photos were common in magazines. There was also a time where you had to drive a hour or more to a city that to buy adult magazines.

also, I don't think boys and men like the blueballing nature of how the love triangle in archie comics is written. If anime is any indication, boys and men seem to like more follow through. More closure. They want confirmation that the main character is hooking up with one or many of the girls. In the 90s, it was expected that the mc would pick a girl in the final few episodes. That has progressed to the mc banging every woman that joins his party, or banging her daughter.

which is something that will never change. America refuses to acknowledge that teens have sex or at least want to have sex.

Archie need really could use a good cartoon, I've never watched it but New Archies at least has good 80's animation.

The 70's Archie show had a hit song on the radio, "Sugar Sugar", and Scooby-Doo was created to be a rip-off of it but they went in a wildly different direction. The reason the gang traveling around was because they were a band and the music in the chase scenes were there songs but the writing team leaned heavily into the mystery of the week instead.

Archie and Scooby-Doo have never crossed over with each other, despite both of them having tons of weird crossovers, have they?

Not a cartoon, but CW's Riverdale is a good take on Archie. The only people that don't like it are chuds and incels.

I don't know, I never really cared for how CW writes stuff. Was never a big fan of Buffy, Angel, smallville, etc. Even if I wanted to bang Willow.

Cartoon? Not to my knowledge; but there was a solid Archie horror comic series awhile back.
