>Instead of touting its troubled star, the studio has put the focus on the film itself, hyping it to perhaps unrealistic levels. CEO David Zaslav and DC Studios co-head James Gunn have publicly said the feature is among the greatest superhero movies of all time. This has sparked bemused head-shaking from veteran executives at Warners who question the wisdom of setting such high expectations.
>The studio has also enlisted famous champions, courting celebrities for advance screenings. Stephen King has seen it. (“As a rule I don’t care a lot for superhero movies, but this one is special. It’s heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping,” he tweeted.) So has Jaden Smith. (“ummm best movie ever,” he wrote on Instagram.) Tom Cruise also was treated to an advance screening at his home. (He did not tweet his review, but is said to have liked it.) In fact, the studio mounted what one person described as one of the more robust screening campaigns in recent memory to build buzz, with tens of thousands seeing it.
>Rival studios note Warners has been spending heavily on marketing, particularly spots and trailers, running the latter during the NBA playoffs. One exec believes Warners paid upwards of $14 million to the NBA alone, although that also included a spot for BARBIE. (A Warners insider insists the figure was lower.)
>“They are spending huge, huge. This is a massive campaign,” says the executive familiar with these rollouts. “It can’t be the studio telling you it’s good; your friends have to tell you it’s good,” says another insider.

Why are they obsessed with making The Flash a success?
No one cared about the character in Justice League, why would they care about him now? At least Aquaman made a billion, the Flash has no reason to have such importance.
Why are they so desperate to try and make Ezra Miller beloved?
This film will finance Gunn's DCU
The movie has a 220 million budget plus advertising plus theaters taking a percent.
Are they really expecting a billion from the Flash?
Sony are still trying to go ahead with their "Spiderman and only Spiderman properties" cinematic universe, are you really surprised about WB doing it too?
Yes. Because they are spending so much money on a character and expecting a billion dollars. I doubt even Sony thought Morbius would make a billion.
To be fair, Sony successfully hitched their Spider-Man Universe to the MCU.
Only because Amy Pascall and later Tom Rothman continued trying to play sillybuggers with the rights as a bargaining chip even after the share had cleared and Homecoming had entered production.
sunken cost fallacy
They're trying to use Flash's association with multiverse and reboot shit to rehabilitate the idea of a DC cinematic universe, after Justice League failed to materialize one the first time around.
Because the previous regime spent a LOT on it
This wasn't Batgirl where there was no merchandise tie-ins and shit to worry about
The Flash carried over production costs plus reshoots plus locked-in deals with merchandise tie-ins and likely theater obligations. Some things were able to be canceled (like there were originally going to be Lego sets for this film, but got scrapped and replaced with Burtonverse Batman stuff) but others like the action figures and stuff had to go through along with releasing it in theaters
It may have cost way more to scrap it than to release it
Everything DC might ride on how this film does at the Box Office.
What happens when it inevitably flops?
I guess you could say it would be a crisis event.
Invested way way too much money into it for them to accept it failing.
>Why are they obsessed with making The Flash a success?
They need to make do with what they had for filming and zassy wants to pay the rest of the 5 billion dollar debt that’s due next year. So far he’s did 1.5B of the 5B, so he’s trying his best. Can’t say the same for the mouse though, lol
seriously i don't mind a second no way home with keaton, but there is a lot of damage control at WB ruinning my enjoyment.
It would only be a "second No Way Home" if Keaton at least interacted with Batffleck.
I stopped paying attention but how come the homie playing Flash isn't in jail yet
He's one of ~~*them*~~ and "nonbinary" so he's basically untouchable.
What a combo
Where did you get this almost everyone BUT the DC execs wanted them to fire Ezra Miller, it’s one of the most noncontroversial opinions in any capeshit fandom
It turned out a Kang variant manipulated the Dark Flash into committing the crimes. They covered it up because they were afraid people were going to freak out over the existence of real superheroes and supervillains.
Normies are already getting tired of multiverse stuff. Sorry.
If that were true the box office drop for Across the Spider-Verse would be way bigger, like a 70% drop
You can tell how much faith they have in this property when the last line of the television ad- directly before the title card- is
>"I'M BATMAN."
>Jaden Smith. (“ummm best movie ever,” he wrote on Instagram.)
it's over DC bros
