This, it was better when it was bunch of guys doing wathever sounds cool or funny
They stopped doing that and their audience left, only a few battered wifes stayed in hope they could make a return to form or just for the sake of seeing an ending, it's kinda sad

Honestly I think its more because they never had any real talent. All of their animations were like those janky animated movies/shows in tge early mid 2000's.

Maybe if they kept themselves small and humble, and not waste money on shit like Hollywood voice actors they would of survived.

They were a YouTube company that didn't plan for everything to start falling off
The animation shit they blew money on was too expensive to maintain, their let's plays started dropping in views like almost all long-running let's play channels do, etc

Internet and Youtube changed and they couldn't adapt with how bloated they became. Younger audiences went in other directions, and they were doing great when YT Lets Plays were at their peak, but then so much gaming content moved over to streaming and the old style of Lets Plays kind of died off some.

Definitely Burnie and Matt needing more money to make 'serious' live-action productions like Day 5 and LaserTeam leading to them getting acquired by FullScreen. But at least Matt stuck it out while Burnie bailed after it became clear the new owners didn't give a shit about his filming ambitions.

The executives/founders probably have enough money socked away/invested to effectively retire. The remainder of the on-camera "talent" (lmao) will probably just go into streaming full-time. A few of them may attempt a more "old school" style channel like Bruce and Lawrence are doing. Gavin might just hop back into Hollywood camera work.

Everyone else pretty much already worked a normal job and will be able to leverage their experience to something else.

My general impression was that when they started to bring in outside people to handle things like RWBY and Camp Camp that they started to care about things like being "politically correct", hence why all the RvB content got taken down and reuploaded with all the "moron" lines removed.

Or is that wrong? I stopped paying attention after RvB season 13, and even then RvB was the only show they ever made that I actually paid attention to.

You're partially right. A running trend with youtubers who go "legit company in the industry" is
      >Apologize
      >Delete
      >Try your damndest to memory hole
It's not the problem itself but is one of the clearest symptoms, it shows they're running from their own past in an effort to get comfy in the mainstream, but all the same edgy ass people are still there so that past will inevitably spring back up to bite them in the ass and RT had so many edgy people that it bit them again and again. When the cutesy fandom nickname for the gay Achievement Hunter turned out to just be a euphenism for "homosexual" which was the nickname they gave him behind the scenes, that was when a lot of the underlying issue came to light. They were acting PC on camera and immediately dropping it and returning to their actual sense of humor once the camera was off. Which works when everyone behind the scenes are the same edgelords from back in the day, but when you're constantly bringing new people and especially actual paid employees expecting a professional environment in. It becomes a huge problem. And they weren't in a position to clean house with big personalities who were considered synonymous with making the brand what it was so they shoved themselves between a rock and a hard place in that regard

Ya, Matt was a good hire because that was the waning days of "Let's hire this dude, not keep him in the back of the office, and ya he may just do editing but he'll show up because he's a part of the company." Matt was a little too awkward for the screen, but back in that era they were right to hire someone like that if they were good and dependable for the company. We see where stopping that behavior got them.

Anyway, here's the bitter boring reality no one seems to get.
    Going woke? Doesn't matter.
Edgy shit behind the scenes? Doesn't matter.
An actual MeToo scandal? Doesn't matter.
It's been shown time and time again a competently run company can bounce back from all of these in a year or two just by rebranding or firing the relevant parties once the cat is out of the bag.
Animator scandals screwing them out of a work force and consistently irresponsibly managed finances? That's a bit harder because that actually destroys investor faith. Most companies who totally bounced back from something like that typically took half to a full decade to do so and often longer, RT were already in the red for both self and parent company so they didn't have that kind of time.
In the end, we can talk about all the controversies and mismanaged properties we want, but RTs real killer was just bad business decisions and corporate politics. The controversies probably did more to just keep it held down whenever they were trying to turn it around but even the extent of that is debatable because the MeToo/Racism allegations literally all came out near the end when they were still on the ground from the animation staff treatment scandal

I don't know what went wrong business wise, but as a fan I went from watching them religiously from 2007-2016ish from age 9-18 to losing interest entirely as the letsplay formula grew stale, they were smart in having so many other ways to keep fans around, I still liked RWBY and Campcamp and their podcasts and the little roosters skits were good, but around the time they started acquiring other creators I realized my tastes had changed and RT wasn't good at keeping up with it in my experience, I found FH a lot better with their comedy, Cowchop was a lot closer to my age demographic and captured the Jackass/Twitch personality demo. And once RT's animation started to decline It was just over for me. The podcast felt like I was tuning in to rich people complain about unrelatable shit letsplay didn't make me laugh anymore and now here we are.

See things like this always bum me out. It reminds me of a time when the internet was, for want of a better term, more renegade. People were freer to openly mock brands and celebrities and style of humor for good or bad had an uncensored freedom to it. Now it's all market focused and everyone needs to tow the line instead of being able to freely mock what we used to. Everyone is just a different flavor of shill.
