If the ranking system is anything like OW, more than half of the playerbase will be Gold or lower. Diamond will be where the good players are, and anything above that will be the greats. But OW also does role-based MMR, so that might plasy a factor in Evolution.

Yeah there's no fricking way. Half of the S1 suits were clearly going to be base roster anyway but they just shifted them into the S1 category to be like "look at all this content we're gonna keep adding!!!" it'll be Overwatch all over again.
Yeah, one of the 3 they're listing is the Masarai, which was part of the beta roster. And the other is an existing unit with a new kit and some minor details added to the design. So even this debut batch isn't very spectacular.

Honestly I would welcome them doing this more to keep the content stream coming. I hate the stigma gamers have against "clone" characters in games, but that stigma is probably why they won't have the balls to try doing it much.
I'd like to see more grunt variants with different models and similar movesets, or new movesets but with altered pre-existing models. More content is good but then we'd just get people whining "WHY'D THEY WASTE TIME ON GM CUSTOM OR ZETA MARASAI WHEN THEY COULD BE MAKING -MY- FAVORITE SUIT!?"

It really depends on how willing they are to break the silhouette rules for units. Maybe after 1 or 2 seasons they'll bust out alternate units as skins for units that don't have a distinctive loadout.

How likely is Kampfer?
We've got tons of grunt suits and some real oddball picks (Mahiroo, for instance), so nothing's off the table. For Kampfer specifically...who's to say, but it's a pretty popular suit, and it could fill a number of archetypes without stepping too much onto existing units IMO.
I hope the DX pack/edition won't be something like 40 dollars. I can only assume it comes with the battlepass too. Or so I hope.

I don't think I'll play a ton but I'll be going for the Marasai. Somehow I did pretty good with it in the beta despite it not fitting my usual play style. I need to master the sea serpent but I like the rifle, it felt like it did good damage
Why is it so hard for people to accept that this game isn't made for "traditional" hero shooter roles? Obviously some suits are gonna be more geared for "tanking" or "supporting", but every suit is DPS first and foremost, or at least has the capability to output DPS in a serious way. This game is meant to be fast paced and aggressive, but people keep complaining that "tank" health is too low, there's no OW style barriers, there's too many stuns etc. The things they're complaining about are the reasons this game is interesting at all.
Their minds are already fricked by Overwatch. And to stretch it, even MMO's. The trinity of tank/healer/dps has reached too many people and made them used to shit like Overwatch with stuff like roles and ults. I personally love that Evolutions ults aren't crazy and let's you win. Most are pretty much just to win a 1v2. Only a few can team wipe and that's pushing it. Everyone having mobility and bare minimum of one dash is too much for a lot of people, especially those that can't appreciate Evolution for what it is.
That's the big thing. The way the game is set up, the match can swing either way at any time. In OW, the sustain and barrier spam was such that the only real way for a match to progress was for teams to drop their ults all at once, and scramble for picks in the chaos.
People just seem to really want player skill to be mitigated in favor of rock-paper-scissors between specific archetypes.

The narrative I see (mostly from tank players) is that it was the fault of sustain via healers being too strong, plus healers themselves being too hard to kill. While this is true, it's also absolutely true that having near 100% uptime on thousands of HP worth of barriers was a MASSIVE issue.
People also talk about the whole "Dive/Spam/Brawl" RPS and how it needs to be maintained for hero shooters...and no, it fricking doesn't. Trying to maintain balance between these team comps and hard roles is where so many issues occur. If the focus is always first and foremost on "What does this suit bring to the table offensively?" followed by "What does this suit bring to the table in terms of utility?", I think the game will be able to sidestep any/all of those issues cleanly.

That dude looks like he grew up stuffed inside a high school locker. I look up Evolution once on YouTube and I get spammed with his ""SHOULD YOU MAIN" videos. From what I've heard in the one video I watched, he was a Reinhardt main. I can't take him serious talking about balance in Evolution when he was probably fine with the shit they did and most likely sees Zaku ranged as a threat cause no shield to cower behind.
He claims that Sazabi is "situational" because there's multiple shield breaking stuns in the game. For the record, the general consensus across the board (including with the Rank 2 player from the beta, who was a Sazabi main) is that Sazabi is top 2.
He also seems obsessed with trying to force the suits into OW roles, and will willfully misinterpret kits and the use of abilities so that he can say "X suit should be changed to be like Y"
I don't even like to use Sazabi and can admit it's worthy of it's status. Frick, I hated hearing him bring up Briggete in his video. I get that it's a hero shooter, but he can't disconnect from Overwatch because he can't let anyone forget he was good at one point.
Most OW players don't realize how many hero shooters there are. Shit, Rainbow Six Siege is in the same genre.
I'll be honest, I consider "Hero Shooter" more of a subgenre than anything. Just watch a match of Siege and a match of OW, and aside from the individual characters there's very little in common gameplay wise.
The only real difference between them is that Siege is asymmetrical rather than teams doing the exact same thing as the other one. it's gotten crazy cartoony over the years with its operators.
You're still using named characters with histories and unique abilities to do shit like capture points, kill everyone, or move bombs or shit.
It's all still the old Quake game modes, just with slightly different flavors and way slower than yesteryear.
Battle Royale is more of a subgenre at this point than hero shooters cause all a hero shooter really is is basically unique characters(effectively loadouts) doing normal FPS shit. Valroent, for instance, is more like CounterStrike than OW but it's a Hero Shooter.
OW is a slow tactical shooter with no respawns and destructible environments? Damn, the game really has changed...

Ubisoft has never succeeded in slowing down R6S even with all their attempts at nerfing run n gun. Most people play R6S at a faster pace than the average Overwatch game.
How's Guntank?
So good that it's damage was nerfed. It can pepper a whole team and 20 damage added up really fast when you think the Guntank is just trying to hit a cannon shot. It has two dashes and can use it's tackle to block damage, escape or stun. I think it's a staple because of it's quick revive, but most people don't know it's quick revive has a cool down after use.

hey /m/en, I wanted to get some feedback for the abilities section segway/transition that I cooked up, as I'm trying to get all of the nitty gritty parts out of the way (transitions, graphics shared among different suit videos, etc).

I think the abilities eyecatch is a little busy with the background and the ability thumbnails both being video clips. Maybe either keep the ability video clips and make the background a static image or keep the background video and replace the ability clips with the corresponding ability icons? (Actually even if you do keep the video clips, adding the ability icons above them might not be a bad idea)
As for the animation clips afterwards, I'm not sure if you need them. It does show what the abilities are based on, but I think you can get away with not having hard transitions between each of the abilities. Maybe just compile those 2d clips into a montage that plays at some point during the video.

Thanks for the feedback, anons. the scanlines is a stylistic choice that also helps evade video content id. not that huge of an issue as I have no plans to monetize, but it helps keep them up. thankfully most gundam OSTs are allowed up with just a simple content id claim. I'll rethink the abilities splash screen, and continue to focus on video intros themselves as well as the other generic graphics. I do have to wait for release to record footage, and get new info on the changes, etc. Not to mention ability icons and stuff, I like that idea a lot, actually.

It might be overwatch with gundams but it scratches that itch for a trashy, pick up and play a match or two arena shooter without me having to play a Blizzard Activision game, or stress myself out in order to play Valorant or potentially commit too much time to with the battle royals.

Honestly I have a lot of fun just going for suicide runs in Fortnite when I want a quick fix. Drop fast and into a populated area and go apeshit. If I somehow Doomguy my way out of the 20 people who drop into the first city area and don't want to keep going I just run into the storm and call it quits.

Overwatch was new to me too, still thought Evolution was way better, stuff like class roles and shit just means you can barely play half the roster
OW was fun before it became a miserable drag to play. Barriers everywhere, sustain outstripping DPS, every map grinding to a halt until one or both teams dropped multiple ults...and then you reset and do it all over again for the next objective/choke point. I played OW for a few years after release, and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't find the fun, no matter how much I loved the individual characters.

Getting back on track from the schizoposting: Considering the suits we're getting at lunch, I think it's pretty likely the next one revealed will either be a pure DPS or something utterly unlike the rest of the cast.
I think something with indirect fire or area denial could be cool, though I guess that's the Mahiroo?
Pretty excited for the launch of this. I downloaded the beta with low expectations but it was really solid, I played it way more than I expected.
Has anyone have experience playing a full squad? I didn't have time to do that and I just wonder how much different it is. I imagine Barbatos is a lot worse when you have people coordinating and can call it out
I managed to wrangle enough friends for a full squad into the game since I've been autistically obsessed since the moment this was announced.
It IS a lot of fun with friends, provided they actually communicate well enough. The time to kill is so incredibly fast that everyone needs map awareness to be on point. after a bit, some of my buddies subbed out for friends of friends, most of which were huge blizzard fans and were getting shit-stomped because they saw the trailer and went "oh it's JUST like overwatch" and we proceeded to lose ever match with them until they left. To be fair, my crew had trouble until everyone got accustomed to the game after about 5 or 6 games.
There was also one of those guys who had an sperg melt down over the game being a rip-off, despite getting his shit pushed in while having a high rank in OW. that was funny.
Apparently anything past 3000 mmr was supposedly just full stacks, which I can easily believe. Barbatos got some nerfs because they magically listened to all those player surveys. Expect it to not be as good, but just annoying in general.
As a Eurobro i didnt get to play the beta. How was the Grandpa and Pale Rider? Those two + the GM Sniper are probably what im gonna play. Maybe Unicorn too but no ones got hands on with it it.
If you’ve got quick aim, both of those suits are great. Hell, just about every suit is, sans some buffs that are needed.
Frickin sick. Hope my aim hasnt deterioted too much. Then again i played 76 in OW so maybe my aim was never good to begin with.
RX-78 is a very strong all-rounder that I can see realistically fitting into any given comp. It's got strong midrange DPS, a stun that lets it deal with flankers and "tanks", an ability that allows it to "tank" in clutch situations, and a very threatening area denial ult.
Pale Rider is very much a flanker. Quick, close range, and capable of limited self sustain. Its ult also improves it's DPS a great deal, so if your aim is good you could easily pick up multiple kills during a flank.
I think I've figured out the "launch meta pub stomp" comp:
-Sazabi
-Barbatos
-Methuss
-Unicorn
-DPS1
-DPS2
DPS picks depend on map, objective, and enemy team comp. RX-78, ZIIR, Pale Rider, GM, and DOM seem like good generic picks. You could also probably swap Barbatos for Exia if the Exia player is good, but the shield breaking on Barbatos is really valuable.
Regardless, I think if you're planning to climb with a full stack, this will get you real far.

I expect Wing to headline season 3. Shortly after console launch while it's growing at it's fastest rate, a hype suit to help it make as much of a jump as it can and take a wider, more stable base. Yeah, the beam saber thing kinda fricks with me too. On some level I understand that it's a shooter first and foremost and to add too much melee changes the game and takes away from the melee specific suits like Barbatos and Exia, but the beam saber is so iconic to me that I also really don't understand at the same time.
Gundam and GM both have answers to melee though, GM does shield bash(and GM+shooting while shield up is more iconic anyways) and Gundam has the Gundam hammer thats effective at pretty much any range

You CC Barbatos first. Certain moves are stun invuln (like Turn A grab), so you can just hit that in response. I think GM shield bash is likewise. RX-78 isn't, but a good player can dodge the initial attempt and land the hammer for an easy kill (assuming you're not straight up ganked).

The best thing about this game is that I honestly don't care about almost any of the cosmetics so far so I can comfortably stay totally f2p. I feel like the only thing that might get me are variants of the same suit like Zaku II and Char's Zaku, Sinanju and Sinanju Stein, stuff like that.

For instance, their nerf to GM sniper wasn't to lower the damage like many shitters asked, but instead to make scoring headshots with it a fair bit harder. Raise the skill floor without ruining the unit. Stuff like that gives me confidence in regards to long term balance.
While they're both melee, they've got pretty different play styles. Barbatos is more of an assassin/flanker, whereas Dozle seems more geared for line breaking/tank busting.
Nah. Barbados will reign in Gold and below, above that when pilots git gud, he'll be a toss but Exist will carry despite being dead weight in low skill environments. Those are the two that work well on their own finding losers dumb enough to not be with their crew. Zaku is a brawler and a fun one by the looks of it but he fills a different roll in holding space while his team regroups for a more effective push.

The only balance suggestion I made on the survey was to give Zaku 5 extra rounds per magazine
I was of a similar opinion. I feel like Zaku needed one or more of the following: more rounds in the magazine, faster reload, more damage per shot. It's already a very good suit, but I found it was often the case that unless I seriously drilled headshots with it, I'd end up with the enemy close to death despite landing the majority of my shots. As it stands, Zaku is going into the launch version with 32 rounds in the mag, which is...weird, but if they increased damage a smidge it might be fine.

Ah yeah my favorite moments in Gundam were the times Amuro wiggled back and forth from behind a building until he landed a shot that made a Zaku stumble then ran in to beam saber combo the Zaku until it fell backwards and then flew back behind the building again until it was dead.
My second favorite moments were when literally everyone else in every single mobile suit all the way through Unicorn did that exact same thing but sometimes with a shotgun or a bazooka.

GBO2 puts on airs like it's realistic and a Gundam simulation but underneath the surface it's boring and generic and the devs don't give a shit about it. Pilot gameplay is the least engaging thing ever, the stun+melee+repeat meta is boring as frick, and powercreep has ruined a lot of older suits.
I'll take an over-the-top unrealistic game where the devs actually want to take balance seriously and make everything play uniquely over a gacha machine pretending to be a proper Gundam experience. At least Evolution isn't hiding what it really is.
It's not show nor lore accurate at all. Hell, Gundam Evo is far closer to the actual on-screen capabilities of mobile suits than GBO2 is.

Yeah, I downloaded GBO2 when it was still JP only and was so excited because the robots felt heavy and big and I really wanted that, but the matches really quickly became unfun, the gacha system was intrusive, and by this point tehy're almost ready to throw F91 suits in the mix against OYW suits so it even lost that sort of simulation feel. Now the only thing it offers that Evo doesn't is big satisfying thuds when you walk.

There's a lot you can learn from watching good players like their tactics and strategy or how they utilize the abilities. Getting mechanical skill down by playing is very important too, but don't discount learning from others. The trick is filtering shitters and trying to find people that don't suck

You dont earn currency whilst playing, only from challenges. Plus, from what im observing, its only the beginner challenges. So once you're done with them, you can MAYBE afford a second suit.

Its under Unit Customization, go to a unit, hit Pilot Voices and choose which one you want. If you click Apply to All then it'll change it for all units, or you can have it vary depending on suit
