Superheroes are generally male-driven franchises. And those live and die by the amount of merch they can move. How many action figures do you think gay superman is going to sell to young boys? You think they're going to go running to their parents, begging them to buy merch of Jon Kent and his pink-haired boyfriend? Frick no.
pretty much this honestly. Jon Kent was meant to be the character for young male readers to project upon, same as Damien Wayne is to Batman. Making Jon bisexual may have gotten DC good PR in headlines for a bit, but in the long run it's just a terrible business move because they've completely neutered any chance for wide popularity that character may have had.
But that’s already what Kon is for.
So go ahead and let Jon be the one for gays.

The biggest problem here, my good chum, is that it's not so easy to self-insert into Superman the way a lot of fans self-insert into Batman.
Not that either is TRULY relatable to the audience, but men will more readily approach the "omg so gritty, omg so dark" of Bruce's story than they will Clark's. And since Bruce had to earn his strength and status, and Clark was simply born that way, they also respect him more.

And every BatFamily member outside of Nightwing has had their book cancelled.

The big problem right now is all these characters stepping on each other. People say the batfamily has that too, with Tim being pointless, but ultimately Tim still has aspects the others don’t.
Meanwhile Super editorial makes Jon the same age as Kon, makes kara and Karen/Paige the same age and takes away Peeg’s business, adds two forgettable adopted kids , and so on.

I think the solution is less "families" in general. At least half the characters in that picture could be killed off with no loss, at least three quarters of the Batfamily could be killed off with no loss, and at least 99% of the Spider-verse could be killed off with no loss. Stop piggybacking on the success of other characters.
