ww1 isnt even real
>ww1 isnt even real
this is actually kind of true.
The entirety of the 20th century can be considered one giant war with all the shit that happened .
WW1 is just the start of it all. I guess it ends with the collapse of the Soviet Union. So WW1 isn't its own war, it's just part of a much bigger war. I guess we can just call it all WW2.
I liked it. It reminded me of an old German anti war movie about a group of friends. One of them has a nice pair of boots. He died and passed it in to the next kid who dies ect ect.. anyone know what movie this is? It was black and white and pretty sure it was WW1.
Die Brücke
Thanks, anon.
I got the feeling they just wanted to show germans dying in gruesomes ways
The french died in worse ways during the film.
it's hard to portray a good anti war story into a movie
The movie was made to try and convince modern Germans to stop becoming conservative and nationalistic. Pretty much they wanted to show what could happen if Germany began to give a shit about their current condition.
that's a far stretch at best, all quiet on the western front is not some obscure book they just made into a movie it's well known literature
>that's a far stretch at best, the illiad is not some obscure book they just made into a movie it's well known literature
>stating a schizo theory that isn't even relevant to what I said or the thread as an objective fact then posting another irrelevant Black person in armor to prove himself right
I'm not that anon, I was just illustrating that any piece of art can be adapted and recontextualized to fit an agenda my friend.
I haven't even watched the movie but it's very plausible that that guy is right considering germany's absolute state for the last 80 years..
the bigger issue is that an anti-war message has already been in 500 movies, and this iteration was completely unremarkable. But of course the Academy, as shit as it is, nom'd it for best pic
uhhh have you seen the original one?
>tanks used to quickly counterattack, in WW1
that's when I turned it off
I turned it off after the tank attack scene, about halfway through the movie I think. It was one of the dumbest scenes I’ve seen in any movie.
But it was fricking kino, elaborate
WW1 tanks were not some quick reaction force that was used to plug holes in the line. They were so heavy, cumbersome, and unreliable that were limited to prepared assaults.
>muh UNREALISTIC
who the hell cares you autistic history buff, all matters in a movie is direction and script, historical accuracy can frick off it's not a documentary
If you are ignorant, then you don't see that things don't make sense and can enjoy them. But don't project your ignorance onto others. If it was supposed to be a dumb action movie, I would have had no problem with the inaccuracies, but it wasn't
>all matters in a movie is direction and script
You need to rethink this statement, which you probably hastily, and angrily, typed out on a phone
>blaring dubstep horns
>AHHHHHHHHH A TANK IM GOIING INSANE SAVE ME Black personMAN
This battle was supposed to be on the last day of the war, right? November 11th, 1918? So why did were the German soldiers acting like they didn’t know what a tank was? They’d been familiar with them for years at that point irl.
So they went for a little forced shock value, big deal, still waiting for real arguments why the movie is supposedly bad, it's an action war movie and did great in several departments. such as costume, camerawork, casting, effects
You're the one who's projecting your autism sperg, ever heard of a little thing called suspension of disbelief?
>You need to rethink this statement, which you probably hastily, and angrily, typed out on a phone
not an argument
You sound so desperate now. Calm down, it’s ok to admit this was a shitty dumb movie.
I accept your concession
This is the single most autistic thing anyone can post.
>costume, camerawork, casting, effects
these are mostly technical achievements though, which don't require much talent or artistic merit. The actual story and "message" of the film were unremarkable and cliched.
As a technical achievement, the film is fine, and the combat scenes were good, I thought, but the positives of the film largely end there.
Ok rec your best ww1 movies, fricking experts
it better not be 1917
Wonder Woman
No, frick off sperg.
I accept your second concession. You have clearly nothing to say and resort to buzzwords
Beneath Hill 60, Journey's End, Gallipoli, Path's of Glory, and "tangentially" LoA and Dr. Zhivago. I also didn't like 1917.
>Journey's End
Also a generic message about war le bad/traumatic except there's no action scenes, I might be biased because I couldn't stand bongs being so homoerotic towards each other
>there's no action scenes,
That's the point, good films don't have action scenes.
I just finished Journey's End 10m ago and it seemed kinda shallow. Still enjoyed it but I thought 1917 was better
your a 20 year old child who wouldnt know kino if it slapped him right in his fat face
I actually really liked this movie, I think I'm the only one here who doesn't hate it.
I thought it was alright
Someone’s got to eat the slop I guess.
>no argument
I also really enjoyed it. The scene where he shoves mud in the kraut soldier's mouth who has a chest wound to drown out his screams was brutal
If the movie expected me to be sympathetic towards this character why didn't they cast an actor accurately portraying him?
good ol times when traitors got the bullet in this country.
Generic war movie 😐
Generic war movie, Germany :O
consider that it took about 80 years after heavy propaganda (some going on to this day) for some change of the mentality that every single german soldier in those wars were die hard imperialists and nazis, movie humanizing them is surprising
There was quite a famous TV movie version of this story in 1979, anon. Not to mention films like Cross of Iron, Stalingrad, Das Boot.
yeah but americans dont even know those exist. The american creation myth is comprised of schindler's list and saving private ryan
>movie humanizing them is surprising
uh, that's been done before, see
tell me you're a moronic zoomer /misc/cel without telling me you're a moronic zoomer /misc/cel: the post
>(some going on to this day)
Understatement of the millennia.
One of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on here tbh sorry anon
They thought war was le good. But it turned out to be..... le bad...
Profound
>soldiers fully aware they are waging a completely unnecessary war of aggression
>genuinely excited at the thought of killing innocent entente troops defending their homes
>get sad at the incredulity of them putting up a fight and killing their friends
>proceed to sulk and stare at everything with a countenance of melancholy and dread
Am I supposed to sympathise with them?
fully aware they are waging a completely unnecessary war of aggression
It was the start of the 20th century, people didn't have a conceptual idea that wars could be unnecessary. The government says go, you go. You're not in charge, they are.
Yeah if only you were around back then with wikipedia, you could have enlightened them with your elevated euphoric humanism
>euphoric humanism
Not him but as a euphoric humanist myself, war is based and the greatest expression of human self-actualization in harmony with the authority of the state. There's no reason to fear or hate war, because it is the means by which man can kill man, government can crush government and ideology can destroy ideology in the great struggle for the advancement of the human race.
bait. But I saw a youtube period history lesbian dyke saying the same thing unironically. If you know a modicum of history you know it was the first time where war widely stopped being seen as a fun pastime between nobles. They would meet in a field, exchange a few volleys, and surrender before 10% of either side was killed.
Remember, if you don't go to war then women won't frick you.
They don't even say that in the movie
Of course they dont say the english phrase. They say it in german : wir sind endlich geworden
im westen nichts neues
What's wrong, didn't make le ebbin Germans as cool as you wanted?
We are never getting a Storm of Steel adaptation are we?
>Our tanks will roll over your bodies, our bullets will blot out the sun
>then we will fight in the Storm of Steel
not with that writing
Awful film.
Only the acting redeemed it.
History ended after WWI. Man's time is over.
History ended after the American Revolution
WW2 was fake
Your fault for not watching OV with subs. The original title is literally completely different "Nothing new in the west".
This was embarrassing, hysterical over the top nonsense. Commander Evil von Badguy was a straight up goofy parody.
>post credits scene
>German citizens talking about how they're glad the war is over
>camera enters a brauhaus full of rowdy men listening to a speech
>one guy listening goes "So that's it huh? What, we some kind of national socialists or something?"
>Guy giving the speech turns around to the camera and smiles. He has a very recognizable moustache
>guy with mustache pays the bill, before leaving turns around and says
>drop the "tional soalists", just "nazi", it's cleaner
I thought this one was pretty good all things considered. Better than the 1930s original imo.
I watched this baked a while back and remember thinking it was really good honestly. That scene at night with the fire around them while getting shot at was kino
Oh wait i think im remembering 1917 actually
apocalypse now ended the war genre, everything afterwards was dishonest slop. Sadly it's mostly known for le napalm in the morning.
That most definitely wasn't a quote in the movie. Post the time.
>War is le bad
In reality soldiers fricking love war. In fact the Germans who fought in WW1 went on to form fascist militias and fight communism.
Storm of Steel is a pretty interesting comparison to All Quiet. And Junger didn't quit after getting wounded once, he kept going back and ended up seriously wounded seven times. Then lived to 102 anyway.
>$14.88
I will now buy your book
better said that a part of the soldiers taking part in war get used to it and that's about it, also it could heavily depend on which front you served and at what time period
but most soldiers in fact do not like war, for the average man war is completely moronic
