      >ww1 isnt even real
this is actually kind of true.

The entirety of the 20th century can be considered one giant war with all the shit that happened .

WW1 is just the start of it all. I guess it ends with the collapse of the Soviet Union. So WW1 isn't its own war, it's just part of a much bigger war. I guess we can just call it all WW2.

I liked it. It reminded me of an old German anti war movie about a group of friends. One of them has a nice pair of boots. He died and passed it in to the next kid who dies ect ect.. anyone know what movie this is? It was black and white and pretty sure it was WW1.

it's hard to portray a good anti war story into a movie

The movie was made to try and convince modern Germans to stop becoming conservative and nationalistic. Pretty much they wanted to show what could happen if Germany began to give a shit about their current condition.

that's a far stretch at best, all quiet on the western front is not some obscure book they just made into a movie it's well known literature

WW1 tanks were not some quick reaction force that was used to plug holes in the line. They were so heavy, cumbersome, and unreliable that were limited to prepared assaults.

This battle was supposed to be on the last day of the war, right? November 11th, 1918? So why did were the German soldiers acting like they didn’t know what a tank was? They’d been familiar with them for years at that point irl.

So they went for a little forced shock value, big deal, still waiting for real arguments why the movie is supposedly bad, it's an action war movie and did great in several departments. such as costume, camerawork, casting, effects

these are mostly technical achievements though, which don't require much talent or artistic merit. The actual story and "message" of the film were unremarkable and cliched.

As a technical achievement, the film is fine, and the combat scenes were good, I thought, but the positives of the film largely end there.

It was the start of the 20th century, people didn't have a conceptual idea that wars could be unnecessary. The government says go, you go. You're not in charge, they are.

Not him but as a euphoric humanist myself, war is based and the greatest expression of human self-actualization in harmony with the authority of the state. There's no reason to fear or hate war, because it is the means by which man can kill man, government can crush government and ideology can destroy ideology in the great struggle for the advancement of the human race.

bait. But I saw a youtube period history lesbian dyke saying the same thing unironically. If you know a modicum of history you know it was the first time where war widely stopped being seen as a fun pastime between nobles. They would meet in a field, exchange a few volleys, and surrender before 10% of either side was killed.

but most soldiers in fact do not like war, for the average man war is completely moronic
