Nah, originally it was going to be Knuckles. Sonic 3 came out while they were working on the season. Ben Hurst retconned it to be Naugus.
Makes sense when you remember how HORRIBLE the communication at Sega was. It was possible the only thing anyone who wasn't working directly at SoA (and J) knew about Knuckles all came from the Sonic 3 boxart.

I wonder how exactly they would have implemented Knuckles or even other stuff from the games like the Chaos Emeralds had it kept going (they already had the floating island and the Time Stones in the "Blast to the Past" two-parter).

          Anonymous

I know how they SHOULD have done it. They've all ready established that Robotnik takes sojourns. Since they turned Little Planet in to a floating island, it's no problem to just have ANOTHER floating island. Mobius has floating islands, it's fine.
During one of his expeditions, Robotnik discovers Angel Island and the Master Emerald. And then he meets its guardian. Knuckles was isolated on the island, the last echidna. Robotnik starts telling him all about the evil 'resistance fighters' and all the terrible things they're doing on the world below.
In the video linked, one of Hurst's ideas was Snivley finds Robotnik's audio logs. That would be how he found out about Knuckles. Knowing he would need help with Robotnik gone, he brings Knuckles in to help him.
As Knuckles spends more time in Robotropolis, he sees the unhappiness, the slavery, the cruelty, and begins to see something is wrong.

They barely implemented anything from the games at all. They did not even know what to do with rings.

But they did do something with rings, and even made them pretty important to the world.

SoJ only cared so much why this hedgehog was fighting an egg, anon. There was only so much to implement when they were first working on the show.

They literally COULDN’T anon. There was barely any game lore that existed yet when that show was being developed, and on top of that, Sega refused to give the SatAM Team and the people working on the comics any information related to upcoming games. So what happened? They made their own stories with their own stuff. It wasn’t until Sonic Adventure 2 where Sega stopped being a b***h and started giving Archie Sonic crew information about upcoming lore but by that time it was too late. Sega is the only one to blame here.

And then you had Yuji Naka trying to merc Sonic in the mid 90s, which is why it took us 4 years to get another Sonic game.

They just couldn't come together for Sonic.

For what it’s worth, I love the SatAM and Archie stuff. The Archie timeline is so far my favorite continuity despite its glaring flaws.

But it must remain is own separate thing, just as it did before. If Sega ever decides to give that stuff another chance, I don’t want it in the main timeline, would like it in another alt continuity.

They'll never give it another chance, look at what happened.
The minute the comics were dead and the "freedom fighter" concept was put down, SoJ picked it right back up and tried to slide on in.
                >Forget THOSE guys.

You cannot give Forces as an example. That game was made in bad faith, if not that, utter incompetence.

I almost wonder if they really made it like shit on purpose so they could say “SEE! Everyone hates freedom fighters-type shit! We will never visit this concept EVER again!”

I did. It sounds like the animator just drew whatever and they had no real communication with the writers and just drew whatever and then the writers said "frick it Naugus."

Would have been great. Knuckles and Snivley making trouble for Knothole, Knuckles seeing the suffering of Robotropolis and realizing Robotnik lied to him, Robotnik's inevitable return and betrayal pushing Knuckles to the Freedom Fighters.
It would have made me buy Sonic 3 instead of dropping out after CD.

I used to think it was Knuckles.

It was. Originally. The video linked outlines what Ben Hurst's plans for the third season were. Some of it I like. Sonic and Nicole having a plot is good. Nicole having magic psychic computer powers is... eh.
Robotnik and Snivley being from a space colony is interesting. I wonder when he came up with that idea? I wonder if it was after Adventure 2 released.

But I'll say this. SoJ didn't seem to have any problems with America's decisions in 1994, did they?
Part of it I do understand. SoJ didn't have a cast back then. There were a grand total of two Sonic characters. Sonic and Eggman.

These guys too. Fun Fact: Nicky is actually Kid Sonic. Nicky being a nickname for Sonic. SoNIC. Present Sonic is actually repeatedly traveling into his own past and temporarily replacing his younger self. Amy was originally meant to be close to Sonic’s age which tracks with her age in the manga given that Nicky is 10.

From all I've read, Nicky is Sonic's real name. Sonic is his alter ego that takes over when he's in danger or turmoil, usually because of Amy being taken away by some twat.
Sonic, somehow along the way, does manage to learn to time travel, as he saves his own dad, which leads to his dad meeting his mom.

I guess? The plot was also basically that Sonic was Clark Kent. Also, wasn't the Sonic Bible being written around the same time as this? Is the manga ACTUALLY older or did it come second?

We can thank Ken Penders for killing off the last chance that existed for a conclusion.

It will never not be depressing and shocking how just one man managed to do so much damage to this franchise on multiple fronts, to the point that his actions are still directly affecting the franchise to this very day. Mandates that were hardened after his BS are only just finally starting to be loosened up after all this time.

Oh and I forgot to add, NONE OF HIS CRAP hurt Sega in anyway. Sega is more or less untouchable because of the Sammy half of the company, which is probably a yakuza front for all we know. It’s why they have gotten away with so many moronic decisions throughout its entire history that would have made any normal company go belly up.

Ken was the only person who “won” here, and the ones who lost were the fans.

Why did SatAMhomosexuals continuously whine and beg for more episodes/movie and go “boohoo SEGA doesn’t care about us and Sally” while Archie was still going. Even during the book’s peak years of the early 2010s they still complained and made their Sea3on comic.

Because the comics weren't the show and they weren't LIKE the show for most of their run.
The first 26 issues were a weird mashup of both shows.
      27 - 30 were actually like episodes.
      Then you get some filler.
Then Ken Penders tried to kill Sally.

The show was popular, was treated badly by the networks, Sega, the comic writers, everyone. Is it really that hard to understand?

I was interested in this new animated Season 3 fanproject, but it's not based off the Season 2 cliffhanger, and it's only using Hurst's notes as "inspiration."
It's also been running for like 13 years and hasn't had a new page posted in the past 2, so will there even be a "conclusion?"
