Well, the archive goes all the way back to late 2012 so you can catch some of the early original fandom there, but all the images are gone.
Back in the day we had quite the artist crew. Used to get together I think once or twice a week to group draw. We had at least ten people. Did that for a couple years. I wasn't an artist but I did enjoy the chat. Sadly alot of those people have vanished, I miss them. I used to post with a name here, not anymore. I saved alot of old stuff but its on an old computer back home. Threads were ripe with artists too. Now these days theyd rather stick to Xhitter or Discord.
I also was in contact with the person who originally created deer Penny. He was a real friendly chap, and a good artist, sadly he's vanished from the Internet and I really wanted to make contact with him again and catch up with things.
What you posted there was a DA request from some bubble autist. They artist deleted their DA account sadly a long time ago.

It was. It's surreal to me that 10-12 years have gone by, it feels just like yesterday. The Gumball fandom hit in a big way back then. It was fun to draw and write fics and talk about the show. All before the age of Discord.

Discord sucked a good portion of talent from this place, among other things. Example: I was looking at a 2017 Sonic porn thread from /trash/ a while back. Four artists were in thread taking requests, and they were decently skilled too. Fun time, talking about this and that. Now? You'll be lucky to find anyone in those threads, its just repost city thread after thread. That goes for alot of generals I've lurked in. Artists are the lifeblood of threads, they create new content, I often feel without them threads are stale. That's why I appreciate people who draw so much, they make threads worthwhile. Sadly they also take a bullet once in a while for posting something risque but thems the breaks.

It's such a cute design, and it caught on with alot of the fandom. It's hard to remember a time when Penny was in her shell and that was it, nothing more. So artists had to get creative and see what was inside. I think its so cool one guy designed this deer Penny fanon design, posted it (I think on Cinemaphile originally, in 2011), and over ten years later, people enjoy the design enough to keep drawing it. I wish I could show him how its still appreciated after all this time. It's sort of like a gift that keeps on giving, inspiring artists to draw.

The issue isn't the concept, rather the fact that her true form is a different style than the shelled form. If the background idea of Gumball comes from everyone being "from separate cartoons" then the style shift doesn't make sense.

Granted, the concept behind unshelled Penny might be based on the idea that the "creators of the peanut moose show" might have never created a design for her without it leading to a shapeshifting ink blob, but even the aesthetic of the blob in of itself is done with a completely different stylization.
