Don't we already have this as a movie?
Last samurai was shit
It's good if you don't take it seriously. That's the reception in Japan btw. Western weebs are the ones who get offended by it and incorrectly think Tom Cruise is the title character instead of Ken Watanabe.
Nah I don't give a frick about muh wapaneese history but it's a shit flick for plebs
No this is different, last samurai is during the Meiji Restoration while Shogun is during the Sengoku period
It looks like the book it's based on changes the names of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the people involved. What's up with that?
because its fiction and the author didn't want to be totally bound by writing a historical account, I'm fairly sure John Blackthrone never fought ninjas for instance but it sure is fun
Okay that makes sense I guess.
Nobubaga threatened to sue them for defamation. He is only mentioned in exposition but is presented as a psycho who deserved his betrayal. The female lead is the daughter of the daimyo who rebelled.
>Nobubaga threatened to sue them for defamation.
lol
>Nobubaga threatened to sue them for defamation
But Nobubaga has been dead for hundreds of years
Samurai carry a grudge for a looooong time.

I am really looking forward to this, I don't care how many times this story gets retold.
>FX
>2024
It'll be so pozzed I recommend buying stock in the manufacturers of HIV treatments.
looks good so far, we will see
It seems pretty cool based on the trailer, I'll give it a shot
The badass warrior woman looks cringe and is the main focus of the trailers
she is neither badass or a warrior, the focus of the firs trailer is her the second is anjin, sh is a major part of the story one of the 2 main povs, she is samurai like all the noble women of the time, she gets one kill iirc, and thats a sneaky stab in the back while a ninja is fighting anjin
>it's about multiculturalism and foreigners in Japan
Typical globohomo
kek
Just watch Ran instead if you want some samurai kino without anglo masonic shenanigans.
lol idiot you don't know this story, the protagonists are trying to drive the foreigners out, they hate them they succeed
The protagonist of the story is a foreigner and the source material is some book series written by an American, it's about as Japanese as twerking
so? the protagonist is a real person you stupid weeb
Don't care, I don't want to see a movie about Japan from the pov of a foreigner
its a tv show beaner don't watch it then, who cares what you want? your an idiot weeb
>is some book series written by an American
Try Australian
finna be kino no cap
kino
SHE NEEDS A WHITE BAKA GAIJIN HUSBAND AND 7 PERFECT HAPA CHILDREN NOW
She already has a husband and a child. Too late for me.
They seem to have transformed Mariko from fighting once in self defense to a weebshit ninja. I have no reason to presume any other creative decisions are better
how so? the only scene you see her "fighting" is the exact same scene from the novel, something that wasn't in that old mini series, its hilarious how this is filtering homosexuals who never actually read the book, also she isn't even fighting she is trying to hold them off for a few seconds so she can kill herself, she fails
its ont even in self defense, and she fights twice, once in the hopes of killing herself and once to protect anjin as said earlier
she stabs a ninja in the back when he's distracted fighting anjin
just watched the last extended trailer, again she is "fighting" twice, once to kill a ninja once to try and kill herself, thats it
They took their sweet fricking time with this, damn. I finished reading it not long before they announced it and it was like 7 years ago.
Does the book manage to not be cringe?
There's a whole paragraph where jap women awe at the size of Blackthorne's thick juicy white wiener. That's as cringe as it gets and it's only a paragraph in a 1200 page-long book.
post it
asking for a friend
are you fricking kidding me? its a genuine classic, its a fantastic read all of his are, their is a reason they have remained in print for 4 years, well except for whirlwind, that one sucks
>take on
lol, her entire guard just sacraficed themselves to get her that far she is only trying to honor them, she fails, miserably, the only reason she is still alive is that at all costs she cannot be killed the entire plan is to force ishidos men to kill her, everyone knows this that scene is her last ditch effort to get them to kill her
NTA, is there a certain continuity to his books or you can read them in any order? I remember being thorn on whether I should read Gaijin or Tai-Pan and ended up not reading further at all.
any order, but I'd recommend published order, Rat King is its own thing(ww2 story a fictionalized account of the authors time in a jap POW in WW2) you can skip that, then its Sho-gun, Tai-pan, Gai-jin, Noble House, don't bother with the others, and Gai-Jin is skippable but its good fun in its own right just as good as the trilogy Sho-Gun, Tai-Pan, Nobel House
>just as good
*just not as good as the trilogy
you have to read Tai-Pan before Noble House, any of the others in any order, their are references to the others but those are the only 2 that really massively benefit from reading one before the other
I thought it was a sex scene 🙁
you thought her swinging a spear at a bunch of greys was a sex scene? did you reply to the wrong post?
you think a female prisoner gets captured like that without being raped?
uh yea you don't understand the story you are trying to comment on she is high nobility hence the "do not harm her at all costs" she is being held as a "guest" noble hostages, oh hey I figured out a way you'd understand stupid zoomzoom moron, member game of thrones? theon being the ward of stark as assurance for his fathers cooperation? its like that
I remember that in the old series, she and the main character were kept in the main villain's castle as "guests". Mariko then threatened to commit suicide, because since she could not leave the castle, she would also be unable to obey her master Toranaga's orders, which would be a disgrace to her. However, I don't remember any swinging spear in front of the guards... Was it like that in the book?
their is a scene where as part of the plan, she declares she will leave, as she is a guest and her Lord Toronaga has asked for her to meet him on the road to Kyoto. Why can't she leave w/e she wants? the greys (toronagas) guard her as she makes it through one gate though another, she is being rude to reject the hospitality of ishido "why would you leave?" and so the scene happens its fricking great the browns are escourting her from kyoto castle one gate after another, each gaurd is challneged by one of the greys (ishidos), one by on they fall until the captain, a total bro kills 3 one after the other and almost kills the fourth before he falls, in the end she picks up a spear and starts swinging at them, it doesn't work of course, but the honor gained fro this is immense, once captured she announces she will commit seppuku in the morning as she cannot stand the shame of disobeying her master Lord Toronaga, who asked her to leave, cue ninja attack In short its 5d chess by Toronaga to shame ishido to release the hostages sry "guests" the wives and families of his armies and he and Mariko have the plan, she dies Ishido must allow the rest to leave
lol I made one frick up the greys are ishidos not toranagas
Yeah, I noticed that, but don't worry because I know what you mean anyway.
The old TV series completely ignored this. Almost immediately she threatened suicide as soon as she found out that she couldn't leave the castle. It's a pity, because the scene you described sounds epic.
yes I know, I like the mini eries fine but they skipped so much, for instance in the trailer shows Yabu the c**t boiling one of the sailors, the kid in oil all through the night, he jerks off to the screams, the entire village is traumatized, the old show also skipped Anjins samurai, he gets his own about 500, and his own village/fief, he teaches them to swim
From what I saw in the trailers, this new series will have more such details from the books. The actress playing Mariko said that this is only the first season and from what I saw, it will contain everything that was shown in the old series from the 80s. The producers of this series, which includes the actor playing Toranaga, seem to take the source material seriously. Not like those frickers from "The Witcher". In the "behind the scenes" material they showed that many elements of the set were really made, not on a computer. They also shot many scenes outdoors. The costumes look really good and it's a pity that they added that damn color filter from "Gladiator" because I would like to see those wonderful colors. Either way, I feel like this series is going to be pretty good.
wait first season? I thought it was the whole book,eh thats good the 2nd half was really rushed in the old mini series and Anjin and his village was comfy kino, but the earthquake was definitely in the trailer so idk pretty sure this is the whole book
1:26 The actress playing Mariko says that: "This season of Shogun is about Blackthorn." I gather from this that they intend to make more seasons focusing on the remaining two main characters.
if thats correct then the scene I talked about is the end of s1, she dies so sorry, thats a good midway point if they are really doing 2 seasons, Anjin and Toranaga and to a lesser extent Omi and Father Alvito are the protags for the 2nd half then, good 2nd half is actually my favorite
Dude... I watched the old series, so I'm not afraid of spoilers, but others might want to watch this series without knowing who will die.
> I watched the old series
Then you really have no idea how any of this is going down then, but fair enough I'll chill on the spoilers, for you too it seems
this is japan though, not some civilized European country like GoT
are you intentionally being a fricking idiot? noble hostages is a time honored tradition among the japs and the chinense and thai for that matter same as the Europeans, hence why Anjin an educated man understands exactly whats going on
Its a very long book and very descriptive
>Trailer has unarmored woman take on 8 soldiers
Kino.
>more wmaf propaganda
why is hollywood so insistent on emasculating asian men?
That's what you get for killing Schizo Abe when all he wanted is for you to have sex
Unironically because portraying Asian men as sexy villains got white women wet, which made white men seethe. If Hollywood were a israeli conspiracy against the white race as the chuds say, you'd think they'd keep doing it. Guess it was too soon.
someone forgot to take their daily medication
>s-schizo
Your posting cures insomnia.

The book isn't very good.
*The book is very good
ftfy
It really isn't.
it really is beaner
You sound frustrated.
a beaner would think that, limited grasp of nuance and of course the english language
You sounds like a sad and pathetic little man. I pity you.
I just want to see guys in samurai armor and gatling guns.
I am a simple being.
>weekly release
I haven't read the book yet, but I heard there were female warrior characters. I don't know if this is historically accurate, but I have no problem with it. I'm still going to jerk off to cute Japanese actresses.
their are ot female warrior characters and it doesn't look like their are any in this adaptation either, jerk off away
Reminder that this English piece of shit is literally the reason Christianity was banned in Japan. He did it as a "frick you" to Spain and Portugual and the Catholic church so they could never gain political power like they had been gaining.
reminder that after this, the only bastions of Christianity in Japan were Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
What a coincidence... I thought Nagasaki was plan B and they were originally supposed to bomb another city, but weather conditions didn't allow it.
reminder you are a beaner, that is all

I'm ready
>Potential kino or pozzed trash?
I hope it's not shit, the book is great and the 1980 tv miniseries was good.
It's going to be eiga
f it's not shit, I hope they remake Tai-Pan, which is my favorite Clavell book and the mini-series was decent.
The novel is kino, the original mini series is kino, I'm cautiously optimistic
If they stay faithful to the books then we can expect kino of the highest order.
And Anna Sawai is hot af.
