Is Anno's Nadia worth a watch, or just EVA before EVA?

      Anonymous

/m/ doesn't think it's good either since it got away with ripping off almost every other mecha anime before it.

I wouldn't say it's Eva before Eva. It's more a Space Battleship Yamato/Blue Noah/Castle in the Sky derivative. If you want Eva before Eva watch Gundam 0079, Iczer-1, Detonator Orgun, and Tekkaman Blade.

Do yourself a favor and look on internet an edit or at least a list of episodes to watch. Anno left for most of the project and there is a ton of bad filler.

It goes: cool intro -> submarine -> Anno leaves -> arriving to the island -> filler ->
unbearable filler -> africa (PURE CANCER), karaoke episode (PLEASE MAKE IT STOP) -> Anno comes back -> frick yeah for 3 episodes -> end (narrator was a pedo)

Also, Nadia is a turbo c**t, dont let her looks deceive you

The nosediving quite remarkable and the plot advances at snail pace during the filler, but it does advance so it is difficult to skip it. On the other hand the good episodes are very good and the original setting is very interesting and fresh.

It's the worst anime I've ever watched from beginning to end. I've seen worse animes, but stopped watching them partway through. It's nearly good but it just doesn't quite work. The story is extremely similar to "The Other Log of Phileas Fogg" by Philip Hosé Farmer

Thing is I was all up for it, finally got in the mood to give it a go expecting it to be some philisophical kino by the way anons had talked about it, got a few episodes in and realised its just some cheesy childrens TV show.
Same with avatar actually, though I made it through the entire season. Though that I knew was a childrens TV show.
I was expecting evangelion to be some sort of kino like GitS, which GitS 95 is in my list of fav movies.
I have to be in a certain frame of mind to even stomach watching anime. Was disappointed.

It turns into that. Just watch it. What EVA does is through the play of the childish forms, something much larger results.

At the end of the day it's just a stupid Jap cartoon but there's a reason it has such influence on people. Just give it a proper shot.

Yes, it starts as an anime, with all the tropes and cringe stuff, but it develops into something that transcends its medium in a way that few works have done, to the point that I wouldn't even consider it anime, but the anti-anime or the anime that killed anime.

Evangelion isn't about esoteric wisdom unless you go on /x/. I also wouldn't say that its content is appropriate for children, but I am an American and the Japanese would probably disagree with me. Evangelion has a simple message that life is worth living even if its hard. I watched it as an adult and thoroughly enjoyed it.

You don't seem to have watched it.

Evangelion has a single season. Its first half is not so different from many other Shonens. You have to build up something to tear it all apart and get to the core of what is fiction: an escape into a comfortable universe, the womb, a state of not-life chosen by the viewer to avoid the pain of real human contact.

This message was thrown at a bunch of unsuspecting viewers on several different levels simultaneously. The doomsday plot, Shinji's escapism, and the abandonment of telling the main story all end up in the same place.

Look, I appreciate episode 26 for what it is, but "just bee yourself bro" really isn't the deep message that you think it is.

Real depression is something that never leaves you and you constantly have to put in the work to keep yourself going, which I feel the ending of EoE stresses much better.

You guys are all pretending Evangelion has any meaning when Anno himself admitted that he based Asuka on Cartman and Rei on Kenny. Shinji is probably Anno's self-insert into the South Park universe.

                > Parker and Stone developed South Park from two animated short films, both titled The Spirit of Christmas, released in 1992 and 1995. The second short became one of the first Internet viral videos, leading to the series' production.

Not only Anno admitted it, but the virilization of South Park's characters perfectly matches the time when Evangelion started being produced.

EoE is superior to the series' end in that it actually cares to give and ending to all the threads the series started instead of deciding that only shinji matters.

I hate Brechtian Alienation and I hate sassy half-German prostitutes who act like the wiener-tease with misunderstood young males who just want to find the right person to fulfil his and her life with (just like me as a self-identify with protagonists). Anno's work insists on itself

      >Brechtian Alienation
this doesn't describe EVA at all. Evangelion is immersive. Its characters are real people. I can see where you're coming from with the theater scenes in EoE, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it Brechtian.

3.0+1.0's finale couldn't be more Brechtian if it tried. It's literally got a scene where Shinjers and an aged Rei have the Evangelion show footage projected on them in a recording studio adorned with models and fake sets of the city. Matrix Regurgitated did the same thing in the same year, dripping in meta-modernism alienation. Sorry tell a lie, Shinjers could have morphed into Anno climbing the station stairs with Mari turning into his wife, winking at the camera with a pīsu sain gesturre and sayIng "I got my man, there's a girl out there for all you Evangelion fans"

Merely separating the fourth wall breaking posters from the matte painting silhouettes. Anno's metamodernism offering was a good send off to arguably his most notable creation, which mirrored himself and by extension his works/itself.

No, Asuka had a normal sexual development and learnt about sex like every normal person. She was a virgin throughout the entire show.

                >normal sexual development
She was begging Kaji to frick her, and that's just what was shown in the couple of episodes they interact. It's obvious she was already addicted to her wiener at that point.

EVA isn't properly Brechtian. It subsumes Brechtian methods and culture into an overall artistic matrix. So it's not fundamentally Brechtian. When people see their reality in it, it's still the artistic reality that EOE is depicting.

Every time anime community praises some shit to heaven, it ALWAYS turns out its boring pretentious trash with surface level themes. ALWAYS. People UNIRONICALLY recommend Monogatari series, which is a show about boob shots running 1 frame per 30 seconds, with a shallow dialogue in the backgound. NGE turned out to be same psychological level as gundam, which is low iq tier mecha. Ohhh noo, it was actually my mum in the mech, and its all an allegory for depression!!! I understand why this would amuse a 15 year old "2deep4u" moron, but I fail to assume how an adult watches and recommends this shit to others.
