depends. Do you mean the fanbase is big to ensure the creators can keep making the story thanks to being paid but you never interact with it? Splendid
If you mean the "Fanbase" is just like 10 casual fans who never interact that like an extremely obscure franchise that failed due to being unable to get a large enough audience to justify continuation and you talking about it comes across as shilling it?
It kind of hurts
Sometimes true. Depends on which sects of the fanbase, actually.
Sonic, for example, has a lot of fractured people in its fanbase. On one hand, you have the modders/romhackers that produce good shit to fill the niche of a good 2D game, and some animators/comic makers that take the barebones lore and make funny shit out of it. On the other hand you have the deviantart homosexualry. And probably the worst of it are Adventuregays who won't shut up about how SA2 was apparently the peak of the series and how Sonic would be instantly a 10/10 classic again if they went back to the Adventure formula.
Black person You sonicgays are the perfect example. The VAST majority of Sonic fans are children. Your gay internet fanbase is just a bunch of moronic megaautists having fits at each other and none of you are the 'good sect.' Anybody that's ever talked about Canon and Lore in fricking Sonic the Hedgehog should an hero
>The VAST majority of Sonic fans are children
I fricking wish.
The thing that you have to remember is that Sonic's been going on for 30 years. It's not only children, it's manchildren that have completely different attitudes towards what the series should be because it was a part of their childhood, and refuse to let go of it. So you have shit like SatAMgays getting into bouts with Adventuregays that are over 20 years old arguing about which one of them had the DARKER™ and EDGIER™ and MORE MATURE™ media.
>none of you are the 'good sect.'
I would definitely call the hacking/modding scene a good sect, but then again it's one that has some skill ceiling to enter in terms of having some smarts (save for the gays that rip of Sonic Battle sprites, which is a red flag for any Sonic fanwork).
>Anybody that's ever talked about Canon and Lore in fricking Sonic the Hedgehog
Why? Because it's a blue hedgehog? You can get that reductionist with any media. "Dante's Inferno is about a simp that goes in a hole and climbs a mountain." "Kirby is about a pink ball guy and fat penguin." "Adventure Time is about a lolrandom kid in lolrandom land with candy people." I'm not saying Sonic the buttfricking Hedgehog is as deep or important as any of those, just demonstrating the absurdity of reductionist criticism since it doesn't actually say anything other than a very basic synopsis.
Voltron. I will forever maintain that it's actually a good show (barring the last season, that was a trainwreck) and most of the hate only came from people who never watched it and only saw the fanbase
IMO Voltron is THE show that comes to mind when this happens

If the product starts catering to the fanbase then it's a problem.

Op again before this takes off

How does this repulsive golem like checkmark all three qualities and not get cancelled/metooed? Did I answer my own question? She's even spearheading Polly Pockets movie
For me it's 2d platformer games
The only interaction between fans is people bragging about beating the game really fast or glitches they found to exploit or sharing memes
I have never seen a single toxic 2d plataformer thread
The one time I was a big fan of something that didn't have a fanbase, I was somewhat miserable. What's the point of enjoying something if you can't talk about it with others? Fanboys are cringe but being alone is worse.
Most people in fandoms don't even care about the franchise and just behave like they did at a middle school lunch table
I rather get friends I trust into something I like, not gush about it in front of strangers, ever thought about how weird that is?
I don't get this desperation younger people had about telling everyone in the world about what they saw. What's the deal about being unable to enjoy shit if you don't get feedback?
I've sworn off cons too it's turboautist or pervert cringe but irl and throw in the local Black folk that loiter around opportunistically every single time
People are too liberal to even mention the Black folk ever
Fanbases are real, and usually more into what they produce of the show (theories, fanfics, fanart, ocs, AUs, shipping, etc) than the show itself. That's why they are the ones that get angrier when their headcanons end up being wrong.
Huge fanbases on sites like tumblr/twitter? Absolutely true.
Small groups where you just enjoy the show and discuss it along with some fan works while ignoring shit on the cancer sites is the best way to go.
I'm a huge fan of Ultraman but I am completely unaware of what the fanbase is up to.
I'm not even ignoring them, I genuinely don't know where the english speaking fanbase congregates besides Reddit and I hate Reddit.
Sonic The Hedgehog comes to my mind.
Phew I love the games and media and the fandom. While being the most creative and proactive guys ever. Are for real really fricking crazy.
sometimes true
always true
ALWAYS true. morons in this website should stop caring what some c**ts on twitter and tumblr says about the shows they watch.
If the product starts catering to the fanbase then it's a problem.
>if the product now suck
You stop watching it, moron.
I did.
That's a result of the problem.
That's what happening to me with Adventure Time. Just cause I bailed out doesn't mean I wasn't disappointed.

You stupid moron. EVERYTHING YOU ARE SAYING IS A BIG GAY FLAMEWAR THAT NOBODY IRL GIVES A FRICK ABOUT! Yes you are a loud minority of morons.
Great counterargument. One of the posts of all time.
Steven Universe
Castlevania. I doubt there's a more cancerous, samegayging thread on Cinemaphile.
how new are you bro
If you feel that way, OP's image obviously doesn't reflect your experience.
Voltron. I will forever maintain that it's actually a good show (barring the last season, that was a trainwreck) and most of the hate only came from people who never watched it and only saw the fanbase
Ive watched some of it and it was meandering and disjointed. I dont hate but I just think its was a slog and not very good overall
IMO Voltron is THE show that comes to mind when this happens
Though it could be that my view of the events and what affected what is skewed, but the way the writing started going down the shitter felt like they listened too much of the "MAKE THESE CHARACTERS GAY MUH REPRESENTATION"-morons online.

>tumblr
Dead site, grandpa. Vocal minorities are from plebbit and twitter.
this except it also applies to everybody that posts online in general
True
God I hate tumblr
me during Dark Nights Metal and Death Metal
I wish never used tumblr
Literally me (agreeing with yous)
>too many white people from twitter
Whites (women) or gays (troonys) oh who am I kidding can we just say israeli pedophiles
And Cinemaphile pedos who daily fap to children characters.
I prefer pedos over antishippers
So you prefer AIDS personified to anti-cucks?
Good to know.
>Me downloading and playing Undertale day 1 from a random pirate website without knowing what it was
can't say its false.
Literally me.
Basically anything that attracts too many white people from twitter.
>whites israelites pedos
How does this repulsive golem like checkmark all three qualities and not get cancelled/metooed? Did I answer my own question? She's even spearheading Polly Pockets movie
israelite
For me it's 2d platformer games

Every game has a toxic fanbase.
Me
I haven't intermingle with fandoms in a long time and happy I stopped.
Frick all those frickers.
Me with Homestuck in like 2016 or 2017. Also helped i wasn't American.
That's me also while interacting with the fanbase.
The fanbase is the animals on the side of the road.
Star Wars
MCU prior to 2020
Simpsons
Ships
Frozen
Spiderman
Elsagate
South Park
Sometimes a fandom can enrich a show but many times it ruins it.
>Being a fan of something without ever telling someone you're a fan of it.
Literally me. Anxiety is a b***h.
Castlevania
If you can’t be critical of the things you like then you aren’t a fan you are a fanatic.
what if I'm a fan of something too popular to have a generalised fanbase
The one time I was a big fan of something that didn't have a fanbase, I was somewhat miserable. What's the point of enjoying something if you can't talk about it with others? Fanboys are cringe but being alone is worse.
Get real friends, loser
I tried that too. Do you know how tedious it is to have to teach people about [thing you like] when they clearly don't care? Fandoms are essential.
I'm such a fricking loser I can't find anyone to see Barbie with me. Anyone except my mom and I'm 30
I should embrace it because its not even worth the effort for cordial surface friendships not even to them
Most people in fandoms don't even care about the franchise and just behave like they did at a middle school lunch table
I rather get friends I trust into something I like, not gush about it in front of strangers, ever thought about how weird that is?
I don't get this desperation younger people had about telling everyone in the world about what they saw. What's the deal about being unable to enjoy shit if you don't get feedback?
Have you ever used YouTube in your life grandpa?
Sounds like a zoomer thing.
Are you a woman?
No I just like to read obscure comic books.
I've sworn off cons too it's turboautist or pervert cringe but irl and throw in the local Black folk that loiter around opportunistically every single time
People are too liberal to even mention the Black folk ever
I don't believe in fanbases you're just clumping individuals together
Fanbases are real, and usually more into what they produce of the show (theories, fanfics, fanart, ocs, AUs, shipping, etc) than the show itself. That's why they are the ones that get angrier when their headcanons end up being wrong.

I don't even know if other War Planets: Shadow Raiders fans even exist. And that's fine.
wtf is that?
Literally everything. Most fanbases, especially if the show has some mystery element, are extremely annoying.
Sonic The Hedgehog comes to my mind.
Phew I love the games and media and the fandom. While being the most creative and proactive guys ever. Are for real really fricking crazy.
Everything, mainly Star Wars.
