The trilogy should have started in a similar manner to what we saw in the actual films, but the overall story arc should have focused on Rey's descent into the dark side, despite her natural connection to the force. Meanwhile, Kylo's character should have been given a chance to redeem himself, struggling with the guilt of killing his father and gradually finding his way back to the light side of the force. The second and third films should have deviated from the original trilogy's formula, removing Palpatine entirely and instead, delving into a character study about the importance of hard work and perseverance in achieving one's goals.
This would have added a deeper dimension to the story, with Rey's character arc serving as a cautionary tale about the dangers of taking shortcuts and relying solely on natural talent, while Kylo's character would have shown the power of redemption and the potential for change in even the most conflicted and flawed individuals
Oh, and Finn's character could have been used as a mediating force between the two, seeing his friend fall, and with the experience of the horrors of war, he could have tried to get her back only to end up siding with Kylo in the end.

It would’ve made way more sense.
Darth Jar Jar would have been the standard bar for kino, never surpassed.
I'm actually convinced that was the plan all along and got changed at the last minute. Just look at Jar Jar's physical design, the yellow eyes, the creepy human teeth, he has spikes on his ears.
I can just imagine a scene where they all walk into the dark throne room, only to have Sith Jar Jar reveal himself, all of a sudden not talking like a moron, and his ears rising up behind his head like a cobra hood. Shit could have been epic.
He's built from the ground up to look alternately moronic or evil with a mere change in expression and lighting.
Sure. A stormtrooper joining the rebels would make a more interesting story than what we got, if it got more focus.
Start out by having him be convinced that the empire is right. Then he crashes on some planet with a rebel officer and their droid or something and they have to work together to survive. He learns about the rebels, sees firsthand what the empire is doing and starts helping the rebels. Maybe he finds out that he's labeled a traitor so now he can't return and he's pushed into working with the rebels, who are mostly distrustful of him.
Maybe he turns out to have jedi powers, but it would be better if he just helped out a jedi.
You could make a decent trilogy out of that.
But of course everyone wants jedis front and center. Gotta have the lightsabers.
A former/fallen stormtrooper is a great character idea. They did NOTHING with this. Let’s forget that he’s a Black person for two seconds (wasn’t in the concept art so it’s not like it’s part of the character). You finally have a chance to show troopers as something other than a joke or cannon fodder, explore their motivations, how hard it is to oppose the empire. You have a chance to go into the character drama of Finn fighting his former friends, maybe trying to convert them to the republic cause, trying to minimize casualties in combat - this leading to some interesting dual loyalty problems with his new found friends.
Instead they did nothing. Finn kills stormtroopers and cheers and laughs about it. WOOO! They fly now? REEEEEEEY!
Frick they didn’t even do anything with the obvious skepticism the resistance would have in trusting him. Everyone just goes along with it.
100%
Like I've been saying, he should've been force sensitive too, why the frick did Kylo Ren look at him like that if it wasn't his force capabilities awakening, Rey should also be force sensitive, but she should've fallen to the dark side, they should've played up her feelings of abandonment by her parents
The stormtrooper that discovered his true purpose and joined the darkside, and the prodigy that fell to the dark side, it's like pottery it rhymes

You can say whatever, but i genuinely feel bad for Boyega. There was a video of him being estatic when he got the role and you can tell he gets more and more resentful as films went on. How can you not be? If you read a pitch it actually sounds cool, think about all the ways your character can go to....instead they went NOWHERE
>be Boyega >be a big fan of SW, especially the Clone Wars >slowly realize Disney doesn't give a shit about quality >snap at "THEY FLY NOW?" and call out Disney on camera
>be Disney >be a big fan of making movies, especially well-acted ones >slowly realize that Boyega doesn't give a shit about delivering a decent performance >snap at his incompetently delivered speech to Phasma, cut it out of the film and reduce his character to screaming "Reeeeeeeeeeey" in the next one
Maybe, but there's nothing about Rey on a conceptual level that made her suck (ignoring the obvious Palpatine bullshit in TROS). Somebody that has to accept that her absentee parents can't give her the place and purpose she needs and finds her calling as a Jedi is a good foundation. TFA is just more interested in being a Star Wars-themed rollercoaster ride than being a story, so she's just an obnoxious vehicle to deliver Star Wars-y moments as fast and easy as possible.
Finn is written in a similar way; he just isn't the main character so less of the story bends arkund him and it's not as blatant.
If he was written better then I suppose, but would it even be the same character at that point? A defecting stormtrooper is certainly a more interesting character concept than Rey but a minute after deciding to defect he's going WOO! YEAH! while mowing down his fellow stormtroopers which turns the situation into a complete farce.
Yeah they really should have done more with the emotional side of it. Like him wanting to join the resistance but then being conflicted over the reality of shooting his former comrades
Not if you hadn't changed the writing and characterization.
Finn should've been a bit older, totally indoctrinated, but intelligent enough that he starts to question his orders and breaks away. But he never quite stops being a brainwashed Imperial soldier, he still salutes like them, when the other characters get excited and start cheering he shouts like "Long live the Emperor!" and then gets awkward when everyone's staring at him, stuff like that.
Having him be this goofy idiot comic relief character was a complete misplay, and I think a lot of this is the youth of the actor. If I could recast him I'd have done Idris Elba (they can't be mad, it's still a black guy!) and played up him being an experienced, perhaps even feared Imperial commander. He doesn't leave the empire because they made him kill civilians, he doesn't give a shit about that.
No, Finn in mine would defect with a company of his men because the old guard of Imperial Navy officers in the model of Tarkin, Pryde, etc. are all gone, and they've been replaced by the squabbling factions of whiny idiot manchildren like Hux and schizophrenic witch-cultists like Ren, and at this point he just wants it to stop so that they can start rebuilding the Republic.
His character would be serious, but funny in a deadpan way. Ranging from naive about how non-military life works (he's never known it) to shockingly callous and cynical when it comes to human life and the necessities of war. Duality of man stuff. Maybe the reason he feels revulsion at Ren's schizo-weirdness is that he's actually force sensitive, hence him being the only Stormtrooper who can actually aim.
100%
Like I've been saying, he should've been force sensitive too, why the frick did Kylo Ren look at him like that if it wasn't his force capabilities awakening, Rey should also be force sensitive, but she should've fallen to the dark side, they should've played up her feelings of abandonment by her parents

I've only seen the last one once, but I'm pretty sure when he kept saying that he had to tell Rey "something", that something was that he had force powers too and they kind of reveal that at the end.
i could be wrong but i heard the original script JJ was going to go with had finn as force sensitive, which is how he breaks the conditioning and his arc was both about finding the Force but also freeing the other indoctrinated troopers. instead of lesbians on horses in the 3rd film it was supposed to be freed troopers.
He wouod be a fine character if he had any drama or conflict aboit shooting fellow stormtroopers, but nope, 20 minutes in and he's shooting them up like an incel shoots up a shcool
Main character? No. Now actually delivering on the character arc that was set up for him? Absolutely. They put in the legwork in a film and a half to humanize a stormtrooper, show him growing relationships, making friends, gaining autonomy over his life and world, then put him in a situation where he at long last could make a heroic choice to sacrifice himself to save the people he came to care about, people he chose to fight for and a cause to give it all to keep alive. Then Johnson decided he'd rather subvert expectations and take that arc away him in favor of an "Asian/Woman drivers no survivors" gag and an interracial kiss that not even the usual suspects wanted. I didn't watch ROS but I can only assume he was brought back as a token sidekick moron who didn't end up doing anything but posing flamboyantly in the final victory scene.
Frick they didn’t even do anything with the obvious skepticism the resistance would have in trusting him. Everyone just goes along with it.
You miss the point. He was BLACK, he was DIVERSE. I don't care about your childish in-universe explanations, we just wanted to see more of him because he was diverse.
IIRC final 3 in comeptition for Finn were Boyega, Jesse Plemons and Jack Reynor. I guarantee you it would've went completely differently if a white guy got the role, especially since Plemons and Reynor are much better actors and Reynor's a good looking dude. Plemons probably thanks God every day he didn't get it because in the span of years he would've spent shooting SW he managed to carve himself a nice, succesfull niche in Hollywood and met his wife on a show he wouldn't be able to star in
That said, they butcher his arc 30 minutes into the film. Child soldier trying to right his wrongs, just a regular guy beind thrust into the middle of war between weird space magicians is relatable and interesting. Except the very first thing he does after he realizing he doesn't want to be a stormtrooper anymore is cheerfully mow down like 50 of his comrades and friends. Then he falls onto the planet, meets Rey and just bumbles around for the next 500 minutes.
I've been thinking about Rey, and what they could've done to make her interesting
Can't just make her fall to the dark side, because that's just female Anakin, and having her be a light side Jedi who can do no wrong is just boring, maybe a grey jedi, certainly would be more interesting, plus if they're rebuilding the jedi order, it'd be stupid to just start up the same order again, would definitely be entertaining to see it take a different route
Yeah they definitely would have been. Poe would have been more interesting as well. Even BB8 would have been more interesting as the protagonist than Daisy “charisma vacuum” Ridley as Rey.
>The idea is pretty interesting, but Boyega was badly miscast as a stormtrooper with his unfortunate pear shaped body.
Boyega was great casting. Except in China. Boyega was the best part of TFA, and Finn's chemistry with Rey and Poe was fantastic.
The sequels would have been more interesting if Babu Frik was the main character. Rey is not a high bar in terms of protagonists. Regardless, the story of a stormtrooper defecting, grappling with fighting against former allies, and ultimately inspiring not only the resistance but his former comrades could have been a very engaging story if they had decided to take it even slightly seriously. Realistically he should have died in the second movie, sacrificing himself and inspiring more stormtroopers to become curious in the cause that he gave his life for. Then by the third movie the previously crippled resistance could have its ranks bolstered by newly defected stormtroopers. And you could probably throw in some interesting dynamics in their eagerness to prove themselves and the resistance's reluctance to trust them.
He wasn't even good as a side character. People assuming that they'd actually write it correctly, which they wouldn't have. The movies suck get over it.
Moments NuWars shit the bed >dropping Finns involvement as an actual character >Kylo not teaming up with Rey to destroy the empire >Or, Rey not joining Kylo to rule the empire
The Marvel quipping right off the bat in TFA was a big red flag. Even before the film was released, there was issues. Isaac didn't want to be in another film where he dies, so to keep him onboard, they re-wrote the script so Poe doesn't die in the first 10 mins... and just re-appears with zero explanation as to how he survived. There was a rumour that Daisy Ridley's acting ability on set was very poor and that was later proven true IIRC (she's still fricking awful in the actual film).
People make this argument because the sequels don't do anything with Finn.
It's easy to project a good story on a blank slate character.
The reality is that the people who wrote the sequels suck and they would have been just as shit with Finn as they were with every character they developed.
What would have been interesting is a non-Jedi having to defeat Jedi, Sith or other beings with superpowers
Jedi are fricking boring, milquetoast superheroes, while the rogue non-force user that survives on wits and cleveness is the staple of almost every other sci-fi franchise
Have them face off
The idea that a regular person is in the middle of SW trying to defeat all the wizards is good and basically a standard set-up for a fantasy series. Instead we got "the chosen one" from a desert planet learning force, who gives a frick? You already did it with Luke
If his original psychological breakdown and defection had lasted more than a total of five minutes, it would have been a great story showing the inner workings of the empire
yeah maybe if finn was another actor, even another black actor, but boyega in particular is a mediocre to terrible actor. also ugly gorilla looking motherfricker.
If you rewrote the story from the ground up and cast a different actor, then yes
The sequels had a lot of problems, but a lack of screentime for John Boyega wasn't one of them
They shoehorn sexism issues into the script when Finn grabs Rey’s arm and starts running. They screwed every character. Even Poe gets screwed for screen time in the first movie
The moment when he takes the jedi sword and challenges Kylo is one the best scenes in the new trilogy. Sad what they did with his character after the first movie. He had a lot of potential
I like the idea of the Jedi not being introduced until much later, and that Rey is already a force user, but without jedi guidance, and Finn's force capabilities awakening during the first scene with him and Kylo, and the whole movie is just these two force users, one self taught, one discovering his new abilities, neither jedi or strictly light side, and just.. doing their own thing
Main character , no but his character was underdeveloped. It would have been cool if he lead a group of special forces stormtroopers or something. But I checked out at TFA
>first 5 minutes of the movie you see Finn having PTSD seeing his fellow soldiers dying >literally starts cheering as he slaughters dozens of them while escaping with Poe
His character was doomed at that point
Unironically yes. A former stormtrooper joining Le Resistance was a good plot and the movies should have focused on him more >inb4 pol/cels
Black people exist. Deal with it
I always felt that they did Finn dirty. His character had a good premise and Boyega was fine as an actor when he wasn't being directed to yell names constantly.
>starts the movie running away from storm troopers because they're genocidal maniacs >first time he fights his comrades that he lived and grew up with like an hour later he's got a big smile on his face while he's gunning them down
Nah they fricked his character in the first movie. It might've worked better if he was older and his transition was slower as well as him having some emotional baggage. Could also have been a good mentor type character rather than Jin roh written by a 5 year old
No. Do people not understand that the Saga by GL was basically an epic poem of our generation?
It is a heroic epic poem. The Skywalker’s are the main characters.
The Disney trilogy should have took inspiration from history for the political story/state of the galaxy. Either an imperial-civil war or there is a “Great migration” with a beings fleeing planets from across the galaxy because a extragalactic invasion. Anyone who knows history knows I am talking about.
Next, the Skywalker story should have been about Anakin’s legacy. Luke succeeds and starts a new Jedi order, Anakin’s ghost would save the Skywalker grandchild that is turning.
Unironically yes. Imagine a former Stormtrooper using all of their tacticool Stormtrooper knowledge to fight back against the Empire, eventually getting force powers and becoming a Jedi.
Not really. What should’ve happened is that Rey, Finn, and Poe should’ve been on screen together once they land on Jakku. Fake-deathing Poe was the dumbest thing they did. The 3 of them interacting is unironically the best part of TROS. Han could’ve been on Jakku looking for the Falcon and they run into him there. I could go on, but honestly the fact that the main characters didn’t gel since the beginning is what crippled these movies in the long run.
Yes. 100% but they would need to play him straight instead of making him the comedic sidekick. Expand on his ptsd and comradery he felt with his stormtrooper friends. Let him become Luke's apprentice. A stormtropper main character who turns jedi is the coolest idea I've never seen done for some baffling reason.
It was literally completely pointless. I didn't even understand the first time I watched. I thought he was like kidnapped and forced to do this or something but he was never a "stormtrooper", just a forced conscript who would always 'turn coat' as soon as he could escape because he was never pro-empire
Which is maybe the case, I really don't give a frick about the lore, the point is it's totally pointless. There is zero difference to the film series if he was a citizen of the town assaulted in the opening minutes, or one of the stormtroopers doing the assauling
Then also he's a janitor? Like..
That's the only plot relevance him being a stormtrooper has, he can interact with some empire stuff a bit and knows some basic routes. So he's R2D2. Great.
Remember Captain Phasma, who jobbde embarrassingly the first time, and then came back with even more hype and jobbed again even harder?
What even was the point of that? This is from the pro-feminist people too, you'd think they'd overdevelop her and make her too badass or something. Like what the frick. Props for how comical it is but I don't get it, did they do that on purpose? Did they try to copy Boba Fett exactly since he basically jobbed in the originals and became popular despite that? Are these women writers that fricking clueless (yes, but I don't know if that's the specific reason for these decisions)
The single, ONLY character, literally the only single character who actually works in the sequels is Kylo
He's still used terrible, but he's the only character that had anything going for him
Series should have been about him exclusively. I don't understand you people pretending to enjoy poe, ape, and rey. All horrible planks of wood.
>What happened to all the child soldiers the empire stole and raised after the clones died out after the empire fell
versus >THE FORCE *CLAP* IS *CLAP* FEMALE!
couldn't have happened to a better person, him getting cucked by Kylo and buck broken by Reylo is even better though, and it made Boyega absolutely seethe about his inability to lay pipe, almost makes the whole thing worth it
I remember watching the first movie and thinking Rey was a (must have been) a Sith plant. She was a secret apprentice/infiltrator/assassin put in place to find the rebels and Luke. And the drama would be Finn obviously has a crush on her and wants to see the good but would have to fight her and Ben. I thought the second movie would be Luke escaping from Rey and reconnecting with Leia then going on the run with Poe and Finn and training Finn in the process.
The whole first movie was sold on the idea of a Storm Trooper becoming a jedi the twist was that it was Rey and then they continued to shit the bed for six hours afterwards.
>The whole first movie was sold on the idea of a Storm Trooper becoming a jedi
Not really. It was sold on "This'll be just like the oT you all love so much!".
Anon all of the trailers had him as a trooper and using a lightsaber. Rey was supposed to be a twist but the story was so sloppy they gave it away halfway through the film.
>all of the trailers had him as a trooper and using a lightsaber
And all of the trailers were literal OT fanbait. Even outright distancing themselves from the prequels. All the advertising, even outside the trailers, always stressed how much like the OT it supposedly was. Remebmer all the fuzz about practical effects and puppets?
Finn is a workplace shooter incel.
A stormtrooper defecting is cool but it'd have to be a different character.
I don't just mean because he's a hideous Black person with fricked up hormones who can't act. Finn on paper before he's casted is a poor and inconsistent character in the script. He goes from traumatized about losing a coworker to laughing in glee as he mows down a bunch of them in the hanger.
Stop posting this GIF, you're embarrassing yourself
>gen x writing
What a failed generation, but still, they're somehow better than millennials
Probably
Rey should have drowned in The Last Jedi there's no way she could have known how to swim, force or no
Well yeah, but only if he wasn't a yelling coward janitor
Kylo should have been the main character.

Correct answer. He felt completely shoved aside.
Finn is Chewbacca tier but without the charm or appeal.
Unironically yeah
This would've been even better though
Unironically yes.I hate Black folk and I'd take a black man as a lead any day of the week over a mary sue moron woman.
>Unironically yes.I hate Black folk and I'd take a black man as a lead any day of the week over a mary sue moron woman.
We know homosexual
If he had been the main character I wouldn't have watched it at all

I must have read a thousand alternative plot ideas for the sequels by now and they are all better than what Disney came up with.

I'm sorry, I think you meant "First Order™" the "The Resistance™" which are So Cool OC Dohnut Steel.
Doesn’t Rey call it the rebellion in TLJ?
That wasn't canon.
T JJ Abrams.
Maybe, but there's nothing about Rey on a conceptual level that made her suck (ignoring the obvious Palpatine bullshit in TROS). Crazy to have this opinion and be illiterate. Who could have foreseen it
Not if you hadn't changed the writing and characterization.

Idris always sounds and acts like he's in desperate need of a nap.
All this
Also he should have kept the breastplate and put a long coat over it. Maybe slap a Rebel Alliance decal on it.
Yeah, and the fact that even racists agree goes to show how bad the movies were
I want a young and handsome Jedi main character like the original and prequel trilogies.
Racist church, female is force
No, disneybawd. And Girl Meets World was awful.
100%
Like I've been saying, he should've been force sensitive too, why the frick did Kylo Ren look at him like that if it wasn't his force capabilities awakening, Rey should also be force sensitive, but she should've fallen to the dark side, they should've played up her feelings of abandonment by her parents
The stormtrooper that discovered his true purpose and joined the darkside, and the prodigy that fell to the dark side, it's like pottery it rhymes
>why the frick did Kylo Ren look at him like that if it wasn't his force capabilities awakening
?t=132
right?
it would've been perfect
The Force Awakens is pure kino for the first minute and a half before going to absolute shit as soon as Poe opens his mouth for the first time.
They ruined the character the instant he escapes and becomes all flippant, then fricks around on the desert planet looking for Rey. He was shit for like 95% of the franchise, although it was funny how he technically gets sexually asaulted by that asian chick in the second one.

He wouod be a fine character if he had any drama or conflict aboit shooting fellow stormtroopers, but nope, 20 minutes in and he's shooting them up like an incel shoots up a shcool
go back
Finn should have been a more interesting character, played by a better actor.
He doesn't act anything like a defecting solider.

You miss the point. He was BLACK, he was DIVERSE. I don't care about your childish in-universe explanations, we just wanted to see more of him because he was diverse.
Maybe if he was a white guy
IIRC final 3 in comeptition for Finn were Boyega, Jesse Plemons and Jack Reynor. I guarantee you it would've went completely differently if a white guy got the role, especially since Plemons and Reynor are much better actors and Reynor's a good looking dude. Plemons probably thanks God every day he didn't get it because in the span of years he would've spent shooting SW he managed to carve himself a nice, succesfull niche in Hollywood and met his wife on a show he wouldn't be able to star in
>Maybe if he was a white guy
I blame China. China didn't want an interesting arc for Finn, so Disney bowed to the Chinese.
If Finn had been cast white, China would have allowed Finn to be great. Then Disney would have allowed Finn to be great.
Yes.
Not with the same writers that wrote TFA.
Still, I think it would have been neat to have a Stormtrooper/Imperial and a Rebel teaming up to stop a greater evil.
TOTAL STORMTROOPER DEATH
Yes he had a more interesting back story and was a better actor
>The idea is pretty interesting, but Boyega was badly miscast as a stormtrooper with his unfortunate pear shaped body.
Boyega was great casting. Except in China. Boyega was the best part of TFA, and Finn's chemistry with Rey and Poe was fantastic.
No anon and let me tell you why. Because i hate Black folk.
Moments NuWars shit the bed
>dropping Finns involvement as an actual character
>Kylo not teaming up with Rey to destroy the empire
>Or, Rey not joining Kylo to rule the empire
The Marvel quipping right off the bat in TFA was a big red flag. Even before the film was released, there was issues. Isaac didn't want to be in another film where he dies, so to keep him onboard, they re-wrote the script so Poe doesn't die in the first 10 mins... and just re-appears with zero explanation as to how he survived. There was a rumour that Daisy Ridley's acting ability on set was very poor and that was later proven true IIRC (she's still fricking awful in the actual film).
>and that was later proven true IIRC
I thought they were saying she was really good and learned choreographies really quickly
Why are redditors so obsessed with Black folk?
Back in 2015 I did remember thinking i would rather a man get the saber than a woman even if he’s black
People make this argument because the sequels don't do anything with Finn.
It's easy to project a good story on a blank slate character.
The reality is that the people who wrote the sequels suck and they would have been just as shit with Finn as they were with every character they developed.
Nah. Snoke was way more of a problem than Finn ever was.
They couldn’t have been any worse. So sure.
In the context of the films following on from return of the Jedi it's thematically correct that space wizards are better than everyone else.
I don't seem to remember ever owning a Black person.
Should have been an entirely different film with him in it. Honestly Finn and the subplot detracted from the overall narrative.
If his original psychological breakdown and defection had lasted more than a total of five minutes, it would have been a great story showing the inner workings of the empire
No. He was a trashy gimmick character played by one of the worst actors I've ever gotten to witness in a professional production.
yeah maybe if finn was another actor, even another black actor, but boyega in particular is a mediocre to terrible actor. also ugly gorilla looking motherfricker.
I didn't watch any of them simply because Boyega was in the cast, so no
It's easy to forget that George Lucas and Sam Raimi are friends sometimes.
Crazy that you could get away with saying this back then
It was a different time
If you rewrote the story from the ground up and cast a different actor, then yes
The sequels had a lot of problems, but a lack of screentime for John Boyega wasn't one of them
If he were not black, maybe.
They shoehorn sexism issues into the script when Finn grabs Rey’s arm and starts running. They screwed every character. Even Poe gets screwed for screen time in the first movie
>umm the Black should have been front and center and blacked the girl
do they really...
American post.
The moment when he takes the jedi sword and challenges Kylo is one the best scenes in the new trilogy. Sad what they did with his character after the first movie. He had a lot of potential
I like the idea of the Jedi not being introduced until much later, and that Rey is already a force user, but without jedi guidance, and Finn's force capabilities awakening during the first scene with him and Kylo, and the whole movie is just these two force users, one self taught, one discovering his new abilities, neither jedi or strictly light side, and just.. doing their own thing
honestly sounds cool

Main character , no but his character was underdeveloped. It would have been cool if he lead a group of special forces stormtroopers or something. But I checked out at TFA
>focusing on the diversity quotas improves the movie
yeah right
>first 5 minutes of the movie you see Finn having PTSD seeing his fellow soldiers dying
>literally starts cheering as he slaughters dozens of them while escaping with Poe
His character was doomed at that point
Unironically yes. A former stormtrooper joining Le Resistance was a good plot and the movies should have focused on him more
>inb4 pol/cels
Black people exist. Deal with it
Low IQ, clearly didn't read thread.
Good. You deserve humiliation, and now you have it.
Probably. Finn actually had some character growth. But Ryan Johnson fricked it via china pandering.
>Ryan Johnson fricked it via china pandering
The movie where the black guy kisses a Asian girl?
Yes.
I always felt that they did Finn dirty. His character had a good premise and Boyega was fine as an actor when he wasn't being directed to yell names constantly.
>His character had a good premise
Wrong
>Boyega was fine as an actor
Wrong
They robbed him of purpose when they stopped him from being the one fighting kylo ren, and then again when they stopped him from a heroic sacrifice
He should have BLACKED Rey
This
?3391670
>starts the movie running away from storm troopers because they're genocidal maniacs
>first time he fights his comrades that he lived and grew up with like an hour later he's got a big smile on his face while he's gunning them down
Nah they fricked his character in the first movie.
Imagine a former Stormtrooper using all of their tacticool Stormtrooper knowledge to fight back against the Empire, eventually getting force powers and becoming a Jedi.
>does anyone thinkg the squals would have been more interesting if it was a completely different story?
Yes. But not by much. The Last Jedi killed this entire IP.
Don't forget all the advertising implied Finn was the force sensitive character.
literally the only way they could have made it worse
The sequels would have been more interesting if they had been more interesting.
Everyone loved the sequels when they released. Enough with the revisionism already
No, I think they would be more interesting if they didn't forget he was a Stormtrooper after the first 10 minutes though
They were trying to manufacture a "Bobba Fett". Shows up briefly doesn't do much, loses is remembered fondly for being cool and mysterious.
the sequels could have never been saved. stop it
The single, ONLY character, literally the only single character who actually works in the sequels is Kylo
He's still used terrible, but he's the only character that had anything going for him
Series should have been about him exclusively. I don't understand you people pretending to enjoy poe, ape, and rey. All horrible planks of wood.
>What happened to all the child soldiers the empire stole and raised after the clones died out after the empire fell
versus
>THE FORCE *CLAP* IS *CLAP* FEMALE!
Boyega was actually robbed.
couldn't have happened to a better person, him getting cucked by Kylo and buck broken by Reylo is even better though, and it made Boyega absolutely seethe about his inability to lay pipe, almost makes the whole thing worth it
I remember watching the first movie and thinking Rey was a (must have been) a Sith plant. She was a secret apprentice/infiltrator/assassin put in place to find the rebels and Luke. And the drama would be Finn obviously has a crush on her and wants to see the good but would have to fight her and Ben. I thought the second movie would be Luke escaping from Rey and reconnecting with Leia then going on the run with Poe and Finn and training Finn in the process.
if Finn were a different character and actor, sure
Wasn't that what Cinemaphile was saying years ago?
Finn is a workplace shooter incel.
A stormtrooper defecting is cool but it'd have to be a different character.
I don't just mean because he's a hideous Black person with fricked up hormones who can't act. Finn on paper before he's casted is a poor and inconsistent character in the script. He goes from traumatized about losing a coworker to laughing in glee as he mows down a bunch of them in the hanger.
