This show made me realize how fun watching movies with friends is
This show made me realize I have no friends
Just build your own like Joel.
But then I’d need friends to do their voices
>utterly destroys your kino forever
much like he destroyed his former wife's ability to be alive
Okay was Patton Oswalt actually suspected of killing his wife or is this just another Cinemaphile running joke?
he didnt kill her, but she died of cancer or suicide or something and poeple used to troll him about it twitter because he's such a massive unfunny homosexual
She died of a “drug overdose” and Patton somehow didn’t notice she died that morning until like hours later, you mean he was sleeping next to a dead woman all night, woke up and went on with his day then hours later discovers she ODed? Cmon not buying it
In spite of their presence the riffing in the Netflix episodes was actually pretty damn good
No it wasn't you idiot
Yes it was, maybe too rapid fire compared to the original series, but you're being disingenuous if you're claiming the riffing is bad, or you haven't actually watched it
>dude the söycuck nuflix mst was go- ACK!
You couldn't pay me to watch that trash and now look at you as less than shit.
so you didn't watch it, I figured
Which part of "I don't watch söycuck trannie trash" did you not understand, dipshit?
I literally said in my post that I understood you didn't watch it. Are you moronic?
I don't hate the new seasons and the girl host is a cute
SOVL
SOVLLESS
Joel's thought process for picking the new mads
>what two actress embody the spirit of reddit homosexualness more than anyone i can think of?
all thats missing is Wil Wheaton
Honestly, as much as it pains me to say this, Joel has done far more damage to MST3K than Felicia, Patton, Jonah, and Emily ever have.
Patton Oswalt actually works great as a schlubby everyman sidekick, like TV's Frank. Felicia Day... I like her, but something about her just doesn't work. Her "quirky" doesn't fit MST3K's style of quirky. And Kinga's too nice with Max when she should be more antagonistic. Like I don't think she's killed him once?
have a nice day, like Fatton Oswalt killed his wife, you insufferable piece of shit.
I don't really blame them. There's only so many riff worthy bad movies in the first place and they've already done all the best ones. It's only natural that the quality is going to suffer no matter who's on the show.
Riff trax proves this wrong, they sometimes riff bad movies from the 2000s which is as good as anything mat3k did.
What I've seen of Rifftrax has been okay, but I haven't seen too much of it. There's still very few truly bad movies made since the 00s that are actually done in earnest instead of ironically which isn't as fun to make fun of.
they still do plenty of pre 00s stuff, their shorts and VODs are almost exclusively those
Oh, I didn't know this existed. Pretty cool.
They did Jurassic Park. Even good movies have absurd moments that are easy to make fun of. They should do one for oppenheimer.
they stopped riffing big budget Hollywood movies awhile ago
They just did the new Dune movie. I'm hoping they do the new Top Gun.
I actually like Jessica Day
>horse face and wife killer
What were they thinking?
who cares when the real successor is still going strong
Going, strong not so much. They've been on auto-pilot for a while now.
if a picture could give you cancer, this would be the one
What episode made you laugh harder than any other in the series? I've gotta go with Space Mutiny.
Girls town. The way they ripped on Mel Torme & Paul Anka was hilarious
They call him the fricking Velvet Hog.
The Torme-ripping was brutal.
Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. It had a weird combination of very sci-fi, modern (by 90s standards when the ep aired), had a solid lead with Raul Julia, and a cheesy PBS production budget.
>Mike: "Winston Churchill's mobbed up brother, Vito."
also
>Movie character: "Wait, switch to analog"
>Mike: "It has a warmer sound"
>Movie character: "Wait, switch to analog"
>Mike: "It has a warmer sound"
That's one of my favorites too. Also:
>$5000 was a lot of money back now.
>Hobgoblins
>Nick the army guy throwing grenades everywhere
>Mike: "The hobgoblins are just waiting outside until this blows over".
i really loved touch of satan
I have found memories of The Deadly Mantis
>Space Mutiny
We put our faith in Blast HardCheese.
The Final Sacrifice
for me its Samurai Cop. it's technically Rifftrax and not mst3k, but that movie is hilariously bad with or without the commentary. Both the original and rifftrax versions are very fun to watch with friends. Space Mutiny has gotta be in the top 5 mst3k episodes of all time though
Wait, but now that I'm thinking about it, if he was way up in space, how did he eat and breathe?
You should really just relax
And when did Gumby get a class F license?
Rifftrax is 1000x better.
Its just as good as the best Mike stuff sometimes. Also their Discovery Channel show was just as good as rifftrax.
Shout-out to Cheap Seats, Sklars can riff.
>Discovery Channel show
?
It was Nat Geo, actually aired on tv.
They gave them some second-rate Steve Irwin to shit on and it was hilarious.
>Rifftrax is 1000x better.
Not even fricking close. Rifftrax is more of an attack on the movie then a jolly goofing that MST3K was. It has a nastier edge. The best MST3k jokes were very harmless.
i thought he meant better than the shit MST reboot if thats what he meant 1000 time yes. but better than the original MST? cmon nobody thinks that
>cmon nobody thinks that
You haven't interacted with zoomers. But I understand now, it's Rifftrax vs nuMST3k, and yes I agree, RT is 100000x better.
I grew up on mst3k and I think the best RiffTrax is on par with the best mst3k.
I also like that they do Hollywood movies once and awhile, even though using the app is annoying.
It proves their shick works on regular movies too. their Jurassic park and starwars episode1 riffs are some of the funniest things they ever did.
>I think the best RiffTrax is on par with the best mst3k.
What to you is the best Rifftrax. Everything of it that I've seen has been below even average MST3k.
Birdemic (not the live show ver!) Jurassic park, episode 1,
honestly I feel like they're stronger in different ways, in Rifftrax they make each other break and laugh more(which I think is a good way to spot the ad libbed riffs compared to the scripted ones) and they're not as constrained in their joke making by being on network or cable television
the RiffTrax live shows (i usually try to see them in theaters, if youre theater does Fantom Events you can likely see it there) are always a lot of fun, im planning on seeing the one for RAD! they're doing in a few week, i wish them did them more often, they used to do them twice a year but lately its been once a year
We are such opposites, I find the live shows the app-solute worst.
They ruin a lot of the running jokes Becuase the PC crowd doesn’t laugh at the ris jokes, and then they stop doing them on the videos.
For example, live shows killed
>.....Ladies
>app-solute
あそぅぅて。
Absolute?
ああそーるて。
Ahh so-rute?
That is not correct japanese. It's not even correct romanization of the word. Are you just trying to type english in japanese input mode? It don't work like that.
貴様 のブス糞ばばうるさい
Leave the japanese to the real japangays, iphonebabby.
Who is the clown now, moron?
I want to like Rifftrax but it's really not even close. They're all just so much older, and the style is completely different. So much of what makes MST3K so enjoyable is not the "jokes" or the "riffs" but when they're just mumbling and giggling to themselves and doing funny exaggerated midwestern accents and sound effects and just showing general goofiness towards the film. I watch any given Rifftrax and most of the jokes are just "boy this movie sure is bad and makes me angry".
>I watch any given Rifftrax and most of the jokes are just "boy this movie sure is bad and makes me angry".
This is my biggest problem. MS3tk had an in universe philosophy of "ok, we have to watch this movie, so lets make the best of it". Now they are angry.
>They're all just so much older,
In a way they should be less angry because of this. If they had a "no insulting the movie" rule, Rifftrax would at least be more MST3k-like.
>just showing general goofiness towards the film.
One of my fav lines was from Invasion of the Neptune men
>zoom in on main character with big hair
>crow: My head is a koosh ball.
>So much of what makes MST3K so enjoyable
>just mumbling and giggling to themselves and doing funny exaggerated midwestern accents and sound effects
>general goofiness
So it's a friend simulator, got it.
Not sure what your post is supposed to mean.
For me, it's the Mike-Kevin-Trace combo.
"Already the children have disturbed Uncle Jim. Uncle Jim is an edgy man who should not be riled."
Mike was cool. Usually the first couple of seasons are bumpy but he did a good job.
Random posts I've made about nuMST3k before:
>I hate literally everything the reboot has done with Gypsy. Renaming her GPC, getting rid of her Miss Piggy voice and making her just sound like "woman," getting rid of her naive, "I don't get you guys" but well meaning personality, and permanently sticking her on the ceiling (it might be better if she alternated between the ceiling and her old standing "mode," but as a permanent change, it's too much when combined with the other three problems). She's barely even the same character anymore. There's more to the Bots than just their physical design, and shame on Joel for forgetting that.
1/3
>This is another thing that grinds my gears about the new seasons. They completely misunderstood and misapplied "It's just a show, I should really just relax." That line was ONLY ever in reference to minor shit no one cares about, like "How did Joel build the Bots?" "Didn't anyone notice when Joel or Mike went missing?" "How does he eat and breathe?" It was NEVER meant to be a "Who gives a shit? lol" get-out-of-jail-free card concerning the lore and notable plot points of the show. The original show still knew it had to take the time to tell us where Joel went, where Mike came from, where Dr. F and Frank went, where Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy came from, how Mike and the Bots came back to the Satellite and discovered Future Ape Earth, etc. We should've known how Kinga recaptured the Bots (or if they were new versions she made herself) within MINUTES of the first Netflix episode, and as far as I'm aware (I've only seen one episode of Season 13), they still haven't told us.
2/3
>Yeah, it's really weird. It's still seriously uncool that Jim forced Joel out of his own creation, but looking back at what they each gave us on their own... Jim gave us the movie and the entire rest of the show after Joel left. Joel gave us Season 11-13. What happened? Did Joel simply become rusty and lost the "MST3K spark" after all those years away from it? Or is it a George Lucas/Star Wars situation, where he's only good when he has someone to reason with him or tell him no when need be, and for Joel, that person was... Well, I was going to say Jim, but I guess Mike, Trace, Kevin, or Frank might've been that guy for Joel, too. Hell, maybe it was all five of them.
3/3
Good posts. I appreciate the effort you put into them and agree.
DEEP HURTING
You know its kind of silly, stupid.
Ah, Gamera. He is really neat!
he is filled with turtle meat
This movie raised a generation of people who think it's okay to yap and yell one liners in a theater so frick them. They're kinda funny tho.
Oh, please, people were doing that way before MST3K.
for years I thought that was Frank Zappa.
no man on /tv is without frens
I hate that there are duplicates of the Bots for each host, each with their own unique voices. It would've been better if the Bots just traveled to each host's Satellite, or if all three hosts just stayed in different sections of the same Satellite. Also, I've heard that Growler and Waverly have been basically made into Kinga and Max's Bots, which is dumb and I hope isn't permanent.
ROBOT ROLL CALL
I kinda hate how for every funny piece of shit movie they did, there are like ten episodes about god awful piece of shit movies from the 50s and 60s that are just middle aged men talking on the phone cut with stock footage of tanks and jets from the korean war or something
they did one entire season that was just sandy frank productions. I did not care for most of those.
>they did one entire season that was just sandy frank productions.
The Planet of the Apes knockoff was pretty good.
>"Now boys, I should warn you: On occasion, the Middle East WILL return fire."
>Mike Nelson, The Starfighters.
Movie selection was very, very hit or miss for the entire run, but it was much worse during the Joel era. I legit don't know what they were thinking with some of the choices.
When they got to SciFi channel the execs told them to choose more scifi movies and the crew objected, but eventually relented. This executive meddling led to some of the best eps of all time.
my boat
I prefer Mike, but I am a Joel sympathizer. He was just trying to do what he thought was right.
>Ohhhh I'm a danger to myself and others, my cousins are as close as brothers, I stand out in the rain all the time!
Does anybody know what beef between Joel and Jim Mallon was? What did Joel want to do so differently? The show didn't really change much after he left so I assume Mallon just wanted to keep it same old same old.
Legend goes that Jim wanted to do the movie but Joel didn't, and rather than risk a feud that could potentially tear the show apart, Joel stepped down and let Jim carry on in his stead.
>Legend goes that Jim wanted to do the movie but Joel didn't,
That's a bizarre thing to fight over. The movie was just a regular episode pretty much, unlike other TV shows that did movies like X-Files.
Sure, but it still involves making the series big budget (at least in comparison to the show), involving outsiders, etc. It's the old "Some times the small thing should stay small instead of trying to be big" story.
Joel was a drug addicted loser, hard to work with, unprofessional, and who was one of those guys who was allergic to success.
The crew is all too classic to suit talk the creator, but joel is the type of guy that would punch the boss the day before his promotion Becuase he likes cleaning the toilets for no pay, because it means he never has to fail.
>my dad works at Joel
None of this sounds very convincing to me.
I am the traumatic event..
Not that anon but I read on message boards years ago that the fans were told that Joel was always tired in episodes because he was so overworked and didn’t get much sleep but that was debunked by some sources that no he had a drug problem and that’s why he could barely stay awake during episodes. Now I don’t know the extent of Joel’s drug problems but watching those Joel episodes you can see he’s very unhealthy. Imagine working with a guy who can barely stay awake during the tapings of the episodes? Some Joel sympathetic fans said he was just a huge stoner but that’s no excuse for unprofessionalism and weed doesn’t make you practically comatose either. So switching to Mike was the best thing they could for the longevity of the series. And that also explains why Joel was so adamant to changes like the movie. Only a degenerate addict would go “but a movie would be more work that I don’t want to do”. What a loser
>watch Rifftrax "The Guy From Harlem"
>they add a little round table bit to the beginning to explain it just in case a black person accidentally sees the episode and says YO WHY THESE WHITE BOYS MAKIN FUNNA BLACK MOVIES?
great episode tho actually
Joel sucks. Mike is the GOAT. Prove me wrong.
>all those man jokes about Ray Dennis Steckler's wife in Incredibly Strange Creatures
I THINK SHE'S HOT ALRIGHT
>Thread about MST3K
>Currently discussing how to speak proper Japanese
Properly speak this
>grabs dick
Your wife is an acute angle.
This is just embarrassing. What triggered this meltdown? Another zoomie hater of MST3K?
>iPhone filename
Oh.
You know you want me, baby!
>Joel vs. Mike Debate
>This is what every thread with anything remotely to do with Mystery Science Theater 3000 tends to become. For those who don't know, Joel Hodgson was the original star of MST3K, who left the show after the episode "Mitchell". He was then replaced by Mike Nelson, who was a writer for the show and played various small roles during host segments (namely Torgo's Pizza and Morrissey). MSTies tend to be very defensive of their preferred star, even though lots of the Mike hatred comes from the general inferiority of the host segments in the Pearl Forrester episodes
