This is the biggest thing right here. Arkhamverse Bats had a full story that people enjoyed and it had a proper conclusion all the way back in 2015, then they just dig up his body to unceremoniously kill him off to bolster a character thats honestly overstayed her welcome.

What do you mean? The heroes include Superman and The Flash so it's interesting to think of how exactly the jobber squad is going to defeat them all in one game. Braniac mind control is a common plot point to set up games like this and isn't that great by itself, but the resulting "unexpected allies and enemies" thing gives it fun little moments.
The concept and story also don't need defending, they've been pushing Suicde Squad since 2016, there's been a lot of Harley content and stories where individuals take on the entire comic universe.

Found this by accident, it might be what you're looking for. Unless you're suddenly demanding plot analysis for show cash grab loot in shooters. Most people unconsciously take then "plot in games is like plot in porn" approach when it's already this shallow. "Super heroes get brain washed and now we get a flashy video game about jobbers attacking them all at once" is in the title, it's the expectation, now all that's needed is good gameplay... which it doesn't have.
They chose the absolute worst rogues gallery for their suicide squad, have ONE non-metahuman jobber or two max but having a team where the only guy with powers is King Shark is just moronic not just from a story perspective but from a gameplay angle too. If you want to have a big sandbox looter-shooter type action game then you can't just strap a jetpack on captain boomerang and give him a deagle and call it a day now you eliminated the whole POINT of having captain boomerang as playable etc.
Have one magic-based or alien villain in the team to explain how they defeat Flash, Wonder Woman and Superman so it doesn't turn into "oh we found this kill-superman grenade laying on the floor let's use that" shit.
Also I'm guessing the writers didn't think people would feel like their creative decision of having the villains brutally torture and maim the heroes in question would be out of line but here we are. The entertainment industry was actually more nepotistic and less meritocratic before the post-modern era, but yes these writers aren't picked out because they're great, they got to where they are based on their connections and recommendations. Sure, they did work, but they followed college program channels.
It's actually pretty egregious in this game because the brainwashed superheroes are outright doing things to show how beyond outmatched the Suicide Squad are. Lex Luthor outright gets his heart ripped out before any of the Squad can so much as twitch. Superman is regularly ripping and tearing through their efforts to stop him. Batman outright kills dudes now to show how serious his evil side is. Even frigging Green Lantern has a sequence where he shoves your team into giant green chains and then takes you for a mach speed ride across the city just to emphasize how fricking stupid you are to challenge him. All that hype...and the solution amounts to "use more gun". I get that there's only so many things they could do within the framework of a loot and shooter gameplay, but they absolutely fumbled the shit out of actually properly setting expectations when it's clear that the only thing keeping the Sinister Squad from being bloody smears across the floor by these deadlier brainwashed heroes like they rightfully should is cause the writers made said brainwashed heroes too fricking stupid to even consider actually KILLING the people trying to kill them until it's boss fight time.
That sounds like what I'd expect in a game called "joke character squad kills the main characters who have unlimited reality bending powers".

I think they expected people to treat it as a what if as comics have a long history of things like this. I think the marketing team is fine with this making rounds as it advertises the game. I think they realize the outrage, engagement, and curiosity would make the game more of a splash than it just being underwhelming and unremarkable. The backlash isn't that great outside niche circles.

In that Batman death scene one of the things that sticks out to me the most is how Harley tries to compare Bruce’s ‘not too bright’ remark as some sort of emotional abuse. Also unless she can read minds, how the hell would she be able to have heard that when it was something Bruce thought to himself? It’s like that comment enraged one of the writers so bad that they wanted to humiliate Batman by any means necessary.
