Carrie paid Doug's therapist to manipulate him into doing whatever she wanted and Doug had a little kid draw an ugly picture of Carrie so she would get plastic surgery, that's just off the top of my head. They're both increasingly narcissisic and underhanded as the series progresses.
Yea Doug gets increasingly disgusting and Carrie becomes more physically violent as the series progresses. Also both use dogs and children to further their own interests multiple times

I noticed Doug isn't a complete fat frick in the early seasons. He's not dressed like a slob and their kitchen is free of goyslop. Arthur broke him.
