Where you getting that from? >house
Yeah, a 2 bed and the kids share one room, that they presumably bought in the 80's when it was cheaper and Hal had enough bank from his prior better paying job. >car
both cars are pieces of shit
don't forget the whole "Hal's family is mega-rich and he doesn't get any of it because his family hates Lois and so Hal cut ties"
no but set in generic California where median house price was still 211K (380K in 2023). that's pretty affordable all things considered. i agree with you
He was a Wallstreet-type investment tycoon (Probably paid for by his rich dad) until he started running his mouth about his idiot boss, then he kept getting demoted every time he met a new, lower level boss and kept accidentally saying or doing terrible things to them, until he ended up in a cubicle next to the men's bathroom doing mindless paper-pushing busywork for a company that was, unknown to him, embezzling millions.
Yes. No, they were not perfect but they were good parents. Even though they're fictional, they're better than half of the parents I've encountered in the last ten years.
>Francis seemed to thrive wherever he was
What show did you watch?
Francis got his ass kicked bu the other students and outsmarted by Spengler every episode in the military school.
Alaska was a living hell for him until he met Piama near the end of that arc.
Ranch era Francis was the only time he actually thrived and developed.
Then they completely fricked his character by firing him from the ranch and sending him back to how he was pre-season 1
Francis' main attribute was somewhat successfully rebelling against authority, by Malcolm's admission he was the only person to ever face Lois at her angriest and still come out winning (Which I guess was when he stole all her israeliteelry), he was constantly at odds with Spangler, then got himself successfully emancipated and then spent another season going toe to toe with Lavernia and taming Piama.
This was such a defining feature of his character that when he found herself with nice bosses who worshipped him his energy was redirected into being an actually good farm hand.
And yes, that final arc for him was terrible, I get that the guy who played Otto died but they could have just killed off the character and have Francis inherit the ranch or something, they derailed him hard.
>It’s a post-season 2 Malcolm episode
Why did they think turning Malcolm into a nihilistic sociopath with no common sense as soon as he hit puberty and then keeping him like that for the rest of the show was a good idea?
Yes and no, they both give very valuable life lessons to their kids, but they're fricking horrible at providing a healthy everyday family life.
Hal stimulates the boys' creativity, which enables them to engage with their talents in a practical manner.
Lois is a hardass who creates a structured, no-nonsense environment, which is key to success in adult life.
You can gradually see this pay off with every one of the boys, even if they're dysfunctional as frick.
No, that's why the show was fun to watch cause it didn't have that annoying forced "wholesome" element that a lot of other family sitcoms had
>both parents
at this point that's all it takes. yes they were good lower-middle class parents like the simpsons
>lower middle class
>50k/yr
>home
>car
damn, i shouldve strapped my boots tighter
A 2000s 50k salary is 200k today for the same lifestyle.
all drug addicts should be killed. absolute scum of the earth with the biggest victim complex imaginable.
>he sees a drug addict
ngmi
Swing and a miss.
Shame there arent as many 200k salaries now like 50k salaries back then
>there arent as many 200k salaries now like 50k salaries back then
I wonder who is behind it?
>blue and yellow

This is the actual house.
wow you mean when they rebuilt it they jacked up the price? well done moron
>we made the edges 90 degrees, now its worth millions
most "modern house design" is just dogshit like this, it's such a shame.
They really killed all its soul.
Was the show set in Studio City in the 2020s?
no but set in generic California where median house price was still 211K (380K in 2023). that's pretty affordable all things considered. i agree with you
They did their best
Not Hal though, he skipped out of work every Friday
become a parent and you'll take this post back
What was Hal's job again?
He was a Wallstreet-type investment tycoon (Probably paid for by his rich dad) until he started running his mouth about his idiot boss, then he kept getting demoted every time he met a new, lower level boss and kept accidentally saying or doing terrible things to them, until he ended up in a cubicle next to the men's bathroom doing mindless paper-pushing busywork for a company that was, unknown to him, embezzling millions.
Yes, no, maybe?
Could you repeat the question?
Yes. No, they were not perfect but they were good parents. Even though they're fictional, they're better than half of the parents I've encountered in the last ten years.
Yes because they didn't divorce
the best
they were before the writers added the baby and fricked the whole show up
Rewatched the show recently. Season 4 was pretty weak overall, but it got good again when they introduced Jaimie
>woops I spent $10,000 on a doll house looks like you're going to have to work your way through college as a janitor
>Malcom was a polymath
>Dewey was a musical genius
>Reese was a culinary genius
>Francis seemed to thrive wherever he was
They did alright.

better than these parents
Yes, but it was a dysfunctional family.
