What was the point of Brad Pitt's character? He was cool and suave and great at everything, young girls wanted to suck his wiener etc no flaws whatsoever. I'd say he was some Quintin wish fulfilment thing but there was no scene where a cool 1960s man of the African persuasion tells him he's got a lot of flavor for a white boy and he gets invited to the cookout as in Quinten's dreams.
He's an old man who's seen some shit, done some things, most of them bad. FFS he lives in a trailer behind a billboard in the middle of nowhere California and his only friends are Rick and his dog. He's accepted who he is and who he isn't and he's happy with it, made peace with the world and himself.
He carries Rick's load. He's a stunt double everybody hates because of a rumor he killed his wife. (I believe he did kill her but on accident as the wave sound effect implies rocking the boat and him firing on reflex) In the climax, he literally does all the heavy work while Rick gets the glory shot with the flamethrower at the end and gets away unscathed and gets to have a friendship with Jay Sebring and Sharon Tate out of it. While Cliff rides to the hospital after saving the day.
I love the character and the film but he's clearly part of Tarantino's "fricking hippies killed my waifu sharon so I'm gonna write a story where my old hollywood legends (cool actor and badass stuntman) save her. Also that fricking midget femboy polanski didn't deserve her! I'm gonna have a scene where more of my fav actor legends talk about how her type isn't real men!"
Rick Dalton was definitely straight, and they had pretty normal male friendship. But Cliff was probably gay. He was just a closeted gay guy. He didn’t let a hitch hiker suck his wiener because she wasn’t old enough, even though he could’ve easily gotten away with it no matter what. Also he was a little flamboyant and he just wanted to be Rick’s stuntman and hang out with Rick, even though he could’ve moved on and done a lot more had he just be friends. Rick was straight as frick, but it Cliff was a homosexual I’m afraid
He would’ve been a top homo, and definitely fricked asses. But he was still gay, and he had some slightly feminine mannerism and Tarantino put a few like curious clues in the film. At the bar he drinks that one fruity drink with the celery, and he’s masculinely protective of Rick which indicates a sexual interest in him, like if he were a woman. Cliff betrays himself behind his overly masculine facade sometimes, although he is still masculine in general
Other stuntman roles. He didn’t have to hitch his entire career on Rick’s wagon especially when he had a dying career. He probably passed up other things just so he would be available for Rick’s next films
The movies doesn’t really tell if that’s true or not. He imagines pretty much everyone assuming that he killed his wife when he’s on the roof and there’s that sequence after Rick tells him he doesn’t think he can get him the part. It could kind of be true, but it also could be him just being sort of egotistical in a way at the same time, like everyone is thinking about him and his dead wife, when maybe no one even really knows except Rick or whoever else. It’s also possible his marriage failed because he was gay, and there fights spurred from him not having sex with her almost ever. He could’ve also killed her in part to cover up his secret. The book version of him is different in a few ways but I think the movie version he’s probably implied to be gay, or at least the movie implies there’s a strong possibility he is

Actually a based take. Not sure I agree 100% but it is reasonable and nuanced
Remember that flashback on the boat with his wife ... he's wearing a diver's mask (metaphor for being in the closet) then opens a can and it sprays onto the mask (metaphor for getting jizzed on his face) then he kills his wife while she nags him (metaphor for his rejection of heterosexuality forcing him into violence)
Why'd Rick keep Cliff around, against all the haters, if Rick isn't getting dicked down? Insecure about his fading stardom, puts up a macho facade makes Rick gayer.
Is that even a question?
All actors are gay.
Their in Hollywood, erryone is gay for pay there.

character is a composite of several real life stuntmen/martial artists with some extra edginess by tarantino. "judo" gene lebell was one inspiration

Why do women and gays act baffled by male friendship
It's not all women. Just the promiscuous ones. Now connect the dots
>close male friendship, protecting them from literal death means ur gay lolol
People like you ruin everything.

It seemed like no one liked him anymore in the industry aside from Rick.

He also kills her with a speargun which is, like, two phallic symbols for the price of one
