All Appletv shows look the same. Very digital, very stilted with a gay filter. A different hue for each show.

You tell me foundation cost 45 million? Whatever. All these shows look the same. 45 million or 450, it doesn't matter.

      >it's also one of the best shows running currently
I refuse to believe that. A children's television program is better than this fricking thing.

Look at this, it's a fricking story that's supposed to be the fall of Rome and re-emerging from the Dark Ages but in space. But what we are given is spaceship dodging giant mecha, dudes with guns running around picking fights with the peasants, melee combat, and probably one of the shittiest seductions of brilliant men I've maybe ever seen.

      [...]

      >Ronald D. Moore
What? Did you fricking see what he did with Battlestar? I'll spoil it for you - it was God fricking with us all along but we jettisoned all our technology into the sun voluntarily for not apparent reason and went on to frick literal actual cavemen from pre-history to create this Earth's modern civilization. It was the great failure that sits between Lost and Game of Thrones.

Why in the ever loving frick would you want to give this person a job?

Yeah I know he fumbled BSG in the final season but everything up to that was great. He just needed an actual roadmap instead of a mystery box.

I believe that a single shitty fricking plot decision can negate and invalidate all good decisions before that point.

And for me, choosing to fly your fricking starships into the sun was such a monumentally shit idea I can't forgive it. It wasn't a fumble, it was a frick up of such magnitude I wouldn't hire this man to write a story ever again. I would blacklist this fricker forever. I wouldn't hire this guy if he paid me to hire him.

If he had written that pre-history Earth had a pathogen that infected the fleet with proto rabies and turned everyone into cavemen I would sooner buy that than how he ended it. Jesus Christ, what he did with that ending was unforgivable.

Doesn't matter since all he would have to do is follow a plot already laid out for him by the books. He's masterclass at character development.

It's maximum comfykino. You're reading about how the First Foundation deals with various threats to its rise and it's more about taking lateral approaches instead of just direct violence, basically the opposite of Star Wars. Eventually the chronicle slows down to focus more on individual characters pivotal to the events but it's still just an all around entertaining read.

This outcome devastates morale at NASA, but also catalyzes a U.S. effort to catch up. • 9 months ago

The decay isn't really explored until the prequel books, it starts with a prologue with Seldon already setting events in motion (this is also the only part where Gaal shows up, who is a man and just a throwaway character to introduce us to Hari Seldon.) After that it fast-forwards to the formation of the First Foundation on Terminus, which started small but rapidly advanced and expanded. It doesn't encounter the deterorating Empire until the second book, the first book is all about contending with its neighbors (other factions that broke off from the Empire to declare independence).

It's really comfy, it's not about Rebels vs Empire. The Empire's collapse happens over the course of centuries due to mismanagement and corruption, along with emperors that were increasingly inept or shortsighted. Less Star Wars, more decline of the Roman Empire.

Yes. His most famous works relate to robotics and AI. He foresaw the internet as it exists today back in the 70s. Not just as some business or military system but as a place where autistic hobbyist can sit around and talk about baseball statistic and all kinds of pointless nonsense.

Why would there be homosexuals in the future? It be like if Roman pederasts still existed. Being a homosexual and homos getting married is exclusively an American invention, just like having sex with little boys was a Greek thing, or incest was a Habsburg thing, and will cease to exist when America does

I got really into Dune recently and decided to give this a shot but it just didn't drag me in. Too childlike? is maybe the best word I could use to describe it. The Emperor trio thingy seems very goofy. I made it through half an episode, maybe I'll try to finish episode 1 and give it til episode 3.

Coming from a literary perspective Asimov and Herbert are worlds apart.
I really enjoy early/golden era sci fi like Asimov but Herbert is effectively another genre in comparison.
The older scifi capture something that can no longer exist in our degraded, failed to launch world.

I fell for capeshitters here who told me the new Dune movie sucked, I watched it and immediately picked the book up afterwards. Burned through the Frank Herbert novels in record time.

          Anonymous

Yeah Herbert is a blast. Read Hellstrom's Hive. It's definitely one that feels closer to traditional sci-fi, because he has other stuff that is pretty out there like Dune but HH involves insectmen and Oregon whereas the Pandora series (which I also highly recommend) is more akin to Dune but is still a bit more classically grounded than Dune.
He's an interesting author, I think I've read most of not all of his work. Same with Asimov. Two sides of the same coin but still different sides nonetheless.

I finished the entire Foundation series a couple of years ago, and I kept envisioning how it would actually look, scenes playing out in my head. Was excited to think it would be a show. I just can't get over how bad modern writing has become, the whole Terminus storyline is a disaster, at least the Empire one is somewhat entertainable, but holy shit, people actually get paid writing that shit?

Is it just me or is this season better so far on average? The lows are not as low past season, but also I haven't seen any real highs yet.

The improvements they've done are pretty good, focusing on the empire more, less Mary sue-tier stuff, even salvor Hardin seems much more leveled and competent.

Maybe it's just cope I dunno, correct me if I'm wrong. Visuals are more amazing then ever ofc

I finished the first season right about when the second one started so there wasn't any gap like I presume you've had. For me, it's basically the same. Hari is still just a supergenius that wants to save the galaxy with heckin magic math. That's what we knew about him at the start of the first season and that's what we know now. 0 progression at all.

Salvor and Gaal are still godawful. Their writing is terrible, particularly Salvor. Her actor is also genuinely tbad as well. Gaals is at least somewhat competent but I can't take anything about her seriously after that 10 minute fart sniffing technobabble bullshit when she was trying to find the location of the ship on a star map. If you're gonna gender swap both of the MCs on your show at least make them somewhat interesting.

I really like all the Empire stuff though. That's pretty much why I still watch this shitty show.

There are now two Haris though.
Salvor's acting was bad in s1 but it's better in s2. Maybe she plays off of Gaal's actress better or she had more practice.
