The British guys voice was cool.

Theres no way I could commit seppuku, how intense do you have to be to cut yourself with a razor, let alone a sword then slide it yourself?

Agree. My first, cynical, interpretation of the show was "holy frick you people really throw yourselves on the blade for pretty much anything huh?".
I got the sense that life had insanely little value, but it was contextualized nicely as the show went on.

Read the Hagakure. It's not that life had no value, quite the opposite. Life had a value so intense that death was the only way to maintain its respect. Seppeku was committed due to dishonoring life itself through shameful action. It was a practice designed to maintain the sanctity and honor of life. The life of the Clan, of the Lord, of life itself.

Yeah, as I watched I slowly went from the realization that these people aren't quick to kill themselves, they value life so much that it is better to die than to defile that. It's almost kinda romantic in a twisted way.

they don't value life they value honour. the act of killing your entire bloodline is anti-life, it is going against your biological purpose for existing. it is about self respect and honour, they would rather die and permanently die (no children) to atone

I think it is more favorable the way we treat things now, but we have lost much of this concept of honoring life. They had too little forgiveness and we have too much. So while I wouldn't recommend a return to the ways of the Samurai, it is tragic that we've lost sight of the balance.
There was indeed a beauty behind the brutality.

A few days ago on the train I saw a beautiful pajeeta (like 9/10 which is rare for indian girls) and since I never fricked a pajeeta and developed a fetish for them through porn I was like shieet here is my chance, she kept looking at me so I autistically did nothing, had to change trains because the one I was on didn't stop where I wanted, so I made an oath that if she also changed trains I'll talk to her on the station, and lo and behold not only did she descend from the train she also got on the same train as me and sat in the same wagon so this is clearly a sign from god to move my ass and talk to her, so I autistically did nothing again.
Believe me when I tell you I thought about seppuku when I got home.

In accordance with the Way, you did nothing wrong. You stopped yourself because your intentions were not pure. You fetishized her and just wanted to frick her. Had you thought, this is the love of my life, you would have moved. No Samurai would have recommended seppeku to you for this act, you did the right thing.

Deflowering was an European tradition. Japanese lords did not do this.
You are also dense. The exact problem with today's world, is that to serve your Lord is impossible, because those who "rule," are only in it for themselves, just like everyone beneath them. Feudal society was not pretty, but the concepts were totally different. Everyone served the community, not themselves, and those who did, were quickly killed.

Lord's got killed all the time if they failed in their duties. What do you think the "feud" in feudalism meant? Samurai killed many Lord's who failed in their duties, and became Lord's themselves.

                >Samurai killed many Lord's who failed in their duties
yeah sorry your idea of japan isn't real. a lord isn't beholden to be a good person and never has throughout all of history. the only time the dysgenics have power is when an elite populist leader gives them the tools to use it for their own ends. samurai were a warrior caste which at one point was royalty but any time they took power it was for their own gain not some sense of "duty". people use concepts like religion and honour to consult power or for political ends. not to say that there weren't people who waged war for religion or honour or love or things like that, just that it didn't happen as much as we think. it's a romanticisation of history

Said all that needed to be said. I am not talking about being a "good person" in the way you are thinking about it. I am talking about duty. Duty in feudal Japan was thought of as that which promoted survival and respected all castes in accordance with their roles. If a lord was abusing the peasants too often, or belittling their station, or any one in between, he inevitably caused enough discord and resentment throughout the domain to wind up getting killed. And this was, in a roundabout way, about the promotion of the "good;" he harmed the community, and thus he was no longer allowed to be Lord. Nature took its course and he was killed by someone who knew what duty, loyalty, and selfless service meant. What we think of as good today is self serving. Just, like, you.

Well for starters they stopped the Mongols from invading, where they would have burned, raped, pillaged and slaughtered the locals. If it was a modern government they would have let them all in, encouraged such behavior and jailed anyone who spoke out against it.

what makes sense: the most powerful people in the world use culture as a front to serve their own interests. look: israelites letting arabs on hang gliders cross the most monitored and militarised border in the world and letting hundreds of their own people get raped and killed so they can fulfil their political agendas, despite having a religion, culture and shared 2000 year history of unity and community/family oriented values. if you can find me an example of a ruler who didn't use their citizens as a tax machine i will concede everything. just a single real example on a wide scale

All the rulers who presided over golden ages didn't see their citizens or cultures as mere tax machines. Every citizen has always been taxed because that's how communities work.
