Matrix captures PKD's physic paranoia about government, spiritual leanings, and the unclear nature of reality and self much better. I like Dark City but all it really says is "you aren't you memories" and tips its hat.
A very cool comparison video, and obviously the two films share a similar underlying philosophical message, but give me a sober weekend and I can make a similarly synchronistic summary of any movies made at the same time in the same genre.
Not a dream, memories. We all have them, memories of a cycle before this degenerate one, we see them in our dreams and that is our great failing, mistaking dreamed memories for memories of dreams.
It's a good movie but I found it hard to watch because of its dark and oppressive atmosphere. The set, characters and themes are depression-inducing. It's nothing like The Matrix and you'd have to be moronic or grasping for a topic for your 4 hour video essay to suggest otherwise.
>the movie about people living in false reality and the savior whose uses his mind powers to fight the agents of the system is totally different than the other movie that's the exact same plot
Yes, they are totally different movies despite sharing the same concept of a false reality and a hero who can pierce the veil. I'm glad you agree and aren't some kind of moron who thinks that sharing a similar premise means two films are necessarily similar in tone, score, characters, writing, acting, cinematography, etc. Well done, anon.
>The Sopranos and Analyze This are the exact same thing
That's how moronic you sound. Don't bother replying to me again. I only engaged with you to show everyone else how stupid you are. You'll have to find a new premise for your video essay.
Solid 7/10. The pieces are there, but many aspects fall short. It easily could have been a 10/10 with a few tweaks here and there. Kiefer Sutherland may have delivered the worst performance I've ever seen in a movie.
i've been meaning to watch
dark city
hardware
johnny mnemonic
nemesis
soldier
split second
strange days
all 90s, funny enough. any others or even 80s / 00s like this?
The Matrix but less popular
Kino, don't let them tell you otherwise. Shell Beach
A city, it'll be dark. Also The Matrix but with the anime and Philp K Dick removed.
A weird movie, but its okay if you like weird movies with bad fx
It's more Dick than the Matrix is bro

The Matrix but worse
The Matrix but better
Oh and jcon booba
make sure you watch the Director's cut, much better
Directors cut or mute the theatrical cut until you see a stopwatch
The Matrix, but directed by /x/, with /misc/ consulting as a subject matter expert.
The Matrix but with Obergruppenfuhrer
Kino totally independent of The Matrix. Both are good but they are wholly unrelated.
Yeah I don't get how this underrated classic gets compared to the Matrix, they're nothing alike
>Yeah I don't get how this underrated classic gets compared to the Matrix, they're nothing alike
BEHOLD
HOLY SHIT

>give me a sober weekend
and for that reason, I'm out
Dark Ciry is a masterpiece
I’m serious, man. Please give me a sober weekend. Just one, please god.
Story of the portal/hero's journey out of Plato's cave.
absolute kino
why can't I go back
You will never watch this gem for the first time again, feels bad
the beach was a dream, mate
A dream realized by the Christ figure. An escape from the nightmare of the city.
Not a dream, memories. We all have them, memories of a cycle before this degenerate one, we see them in our dreams and that is our great failing, mistaking dreamed memories for memories of dreams.
It has few scenes that alludes to pedophilia/pizzagate.
Watch the directors cut.
The kinoest of kino. A neo-noir so good the Matrix stole all of its ideas and even filmed on the same sets.
I'm just a collection of learned behaviors, why would I know?
These 2 films are kind of a deconstructed matrix. Combined they are pretty much every idea in the matrix.
>deconstructed matrix
Both came out before The Matrix. If anything The Matrix is a fusion of those two movies mixed with anime.
Probably a better way of wording it. It's 4am here and I'm dog tired but can't sleep. I'm not exactly on top form atm.
Make sure to watch the Roger Ebert commentary after you watch the movie. One of the best DVD commentary tracks ever recorded.

>the core is the same but the shallow surface level details are a bit different
Glad you agree. You've grown as a person by admitting you were wrong.

based shitting on kiefer
It's a solid 11/10 if I'm not being fair. If I'm being fair it's 12/10.
Kiefer's defining role. He peaked here.
Kiefer Sutherland chewing the scenery
Spoiled the movie for me
I honestly forgot he was even in it, doesn't detract for.me
I would kill you for this if you said it to me in a bar. Broken bottle to the throat.
