Don't read the comics, one of the best characters in the series is just an early throwaway death for shock value there with no development at all.

      Be honest.
That doesn't come until much later after AMC all too eagerly jumped on the ESG bandwagon, which inevitably led to The Walking Dead showrunners forcing us (unconvincingly) to accept a zombie infested, post-apocalyptic hellscape where only fat people, lesbians & deaf negresses are the sole survivors & somehow most if not all white people have been inexplicable killed off, aside from the usual psychopaths & a dwindling assortment of random thugs.
Whereas, in the earlier seasons those same minority demographics were usually the very first to get killed off (& gruesomely I might add) suddenly they're the only people with the skills necessary to survive.
      Go figure.
Seasons 1-9 are worth it though, despite the first two being more than a little clunky.

        Anonymous

Yea, I didn't let all the minority shit ruin it for me, because they aren't actually really pushing any real "inclusivity plotline" bs, like a lot of modern shows. They just kind of plug them into roles, or at least that's how it felt to me

AMC greed killed this show. Beefed up the seasons to 16 episodes which led to a bunch of filler, dragged it out way too long. Drifted way too far from the comics that kept the story tight and contained. Like ASoIaF, I'm hoping for a faithful animation remake that's faithful in the years to come.

Season 1 made show popular, what are you talking about, it was an overnight success. In retrospect it's hard to explain how season 2 managed to maintain that success, but the TV environment was just drastically different at that time before streaming truly kicked off, a lot more people simply watched whatever was on TV. But make no mistake, season 2 entirely rode the hype of S1.

I think Troy's unceremonius execution was a serious misplay on the storyline. They spent all that time getting us to like him after he was shit from the beginning, and then it was the final nail in the coffin for Madison for me. I think the problem with fear twd is that they just made a lot of characters too unlikeable. Twd had people do things you didn't agree with, but they tended to keep that character at least on the net positive

The show is just shit. It's not even that the story/characters are bad, the show itself is just shit. I'll happily indulge in garbage, but there's just something about the way it's shot that isn't even horrible. It's just shit. It's like every fricking scene drags on as a means to replicate any emotional weight. It's a drag. The whole show is just a shitty drag that feels like it never goes anywhere and everything takes too long. A slog.

    >zombie apocalypse
How far do you think that can go? The zombies are just generic zombies, the entire story is just "introduce new bad living person" and it just tries to one up itself on what a fricking seasonal villain is. I made it to season 5 out of fricking boredom and it still felt like a complete waste of my time. I should have spent 45 hours punching myself in the fricking face. Just don't even bother dude. Kino. I think being able to watch it all at once definitely makes it better. I've seen people complain about being done with it by mid series. I can see where they're coming from if they were watching while it was airing, since it's a week to week situation and the show can suffer from filler like DragonBall z or something like that. And I feel them on some sections of the very late series' seasons, but if you're binging you can just kind of background watch filler sections. Sadly you can't really full on skip more boring episodes since they usually contain some event that matters at some point.
    >t. Never watched until a few months back because I always thought it looked stupid

Season 1: Excellent, a must see of television.
Season 2: Very good but slow. Lots of kino moments.
Season 3: Good but inconsistent, it has a few shit episodes. (The finale is a good point to drop it if you feel done)
Season 4: Very good, with a kino battle scene. Back half is a slog but comfy af
    Season 5: Very good.
Season 6: Weird, inconsistent af. Lots of kino moments, a few shit episodes.
Season 7: Absolute kino first episode, rest of the season is a fricking slog but the villain keeps it fun.
Season 8: Trash with some good episodes here and there. The 2 main villains keeps it interesting (The finale is another good moment to drop it, kinda works as a series finale).
    Season 9: Surprisingly very good.
    Season 10: Ok
Season 11: Not good, it gets noticeably cheap looking because COVID but I liked some moments. The ending was alright. (might as well end it if you get pass season 8).

It's a rollercoaster. If you get invested in the characters and like gory horror, it's worth watching. It never fully derails like some other shows.

      Anonymous

Yah, you encapsulated each season well. The issue with TWD was never the characters or plot payoff - it was the massive fricking slog of a dozen episodes to get to one kino moment. S7 and S8 should've been one solid 20 episode season.

      Anonymous

Couple of points I disagree on or want to emphasize, because I generally agree with this rundown
      >Season 2: Very good but slow. Lots of kino moments.
Hard disagree, characters rarely made sense, it's a wonder how Rick didn't just snap and break everyone's necks in this season. Particularly never got why the frick Maggie was mad at Lori for deciding to tag along with Glenn for kill the baby pills? Usually Walking Dead in most episodes would have a scene or two that'd make me go, huh, I didn't regret I saw that. I actually think those scenes exist in this season and it's exactly 3 at the second half of the season, I don't know how people can say the first half was good when best scenes are in second half of the season (when Rick talks to Carl in the barn, when Rick pulls a knife on Shane (but only because of how it influenced Carl making honestly one of the best scenes in season 3's finality where he killed a surrendering person showing Rick's influence on Carl) and Ricktatorship speech when Rick finally snaps).

      >Season 3: Good but inconsistent, it has a few shit episodes. (The finale is a good point to drop it if you feel done)
Hard agree, starts great, but completely lost me when Governor shoots his own people.

      >Season 4: Very good, with a kino battle scene. Back half is a slog but comfy af
Couldn't agree more, Hershel trying to keep people alive in quarantine episode is honestly probably my favorite in the show because it actually gave Scott Wilson a material to work with)

        >Toyed with the idea of killing FRICKING CARL in season fricking 3.
        >Toyed with the idea of killing characters just for shock value and because "it's le apocalypse", not for plot reasons.
        >Would basically rewrite entire events out of nowhere.
        >Andrea's actress had no idea she was going to die until very close to shoot her scene. Had a contract for 8 seasons.
        >Got AMC wondering wtf was happening with the production team.

I'll be honest with that one, the actress is great, but Carol's character sort of degenerated overtime until in seasons 6-8 she was essentially in competition with Morgan to see who can be more of an annoying c**t. I think dying in season 3 would've been too early, sometimes during Alexandria arc she should've died actually protecting it, like, finding something worth dying for.

The savior war could've been a good moment.
            >Isolates herself to avoid violence altogether in s7 and because she feels fricking dead inside.
            >Comes back to fight for her family. Ends up getting Holly's death from the comics or something.

I think it would've made more sense if she died in Carl's stead, keeping Carl alive and giving him proper chance to take over the show. Rigg keeping Negan alive would make less sense, but it's a nonsense decision to begin with within the show.

Season 2 shifts focus from tension over zombies and living in a world they dominate now
to tension amongst the characters and interpersonal conflict
The session focuses much more on character development and slowly builds to spectacular fubar

The characters are fricking annoying. Also, season 1 wasn't completely devoid of exact same thing, it just had all the good things, not concentrated on having some of the good things.

In reality people saying s1 is the best is just leftover from the massive hype. Episode 1 is great, episode 2 is good, the rest is kind of shit.

The first session has that terrible vatos episode which is one of the worst episodes in the entire show
      2 is the best overall
3 completely blew the prison assault
And imo is when the show jumped the shark. then it recovered a bit with the governor subplot later but after that only the terminus plot (whatever session that was) is worth watching the rest is filler slop and not worth it
So 1-4 or 5 worth watching

The only interesting comic from mediocre Americans, but no, burgers are so stupid that they prefer a stupid TV series. I'm not surprised this country has problems with homies.

Every single second that andrew lincoln is onscreen is magic
He's one of the best actors of all time and this is not debatable
You can quite literally fast forward through everything that doesnt directly involve him and you will be watching a better show than you would be normally
Infact, I plan on doing this again soon

Out of everything, he completely sold the transformation from S1 Rick to Rigg. I know that one of the points Frank Darabont disagreed with both AMC and Kirkman on is to shift away focus from Andrew Lincoln, and it's often understated how in just this one instant AMC was fricking right. Though, Darabont's connection and star pull could've potentially pulled performances of similar caliber.

I wish the show would just follow Rigg all the time without jumping around, also wish it was shorter but there you go

so is daryl's show worth watching? can I jump into it after giving up on twd in season 5 or so? don't remember which one was negan's first season but I gave up after that one

Negan's first season was 7. It's preferable you watching S9-11 before jumping to Daryl, especially 9.

the comics are superior when the show enters the Govnor arc, go read it instead of watching this show

Show Governor is the superior version though. Comic governor was just a machete lookalike manlet freak.
