I think the main thing is most of the prominent creative yurigays have either gone insane or gone into hiding/retreated from the internet. They usually tend to dominate popular cartoon and comics media otherwise

The irony is gay rights is what killed the original fujo era as we knew it because there was no longer a "forbidden fruit" or this idea of giving into a social taboo that made it hot for the largely heterosexual female crowd who were into yaoi at the time. Plus, actual gay people typically hated it back then because of how weirdly rapey and fetishized it all was. So I think the current gay shipping era is gonna stick around a bit more.
