For me, it's the Two Ronnies:
>genuine high IQ comedy
Saved
yes minister
There's going to be a lot of missing moments, so for sketch shows I'd go for 'best of's'. I saw Fawlty Towers was rated best Tv show ever heh but that can't really be true
I'm gonna draw some ire but I really don't think Fawlty Towers has aged very well. It's basically one episode of material stretched across 12. But it's extremely iconic (especially to Americans, it was "the" hip cool imported british thing for niche nerds to fawn over in the 80s/90s, along with original Doctor Who), so it's worth watching at least to get the cultural relevance. I think the lasting idea of John Cleese calling his beloved wife a stupid great tart is better than the experience.
Blackadder
The Benny Hill Show
The Thick of It
Benny Hill absolutely laugh moggs any British comedy to this day
The Day Today
league of gentlemen
The Royle Family
Peep Show
i watched some original mr. bean on youtube for the first time since i was a kid and was was in stitches, highly recommended
Blackadder
The Day Today
Allo Allo
Thin blue line is very leftist but still pretty funny
>Chef
Thats one of the worst British comedies
Why? Cause you're racist?
The Good Life, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Bottom, It Aint half Hot Mum, Are you being served, Dads Army, Yes Primeminister/Minister, Only Fools and Horses. Its turned shit now that the BBC have gone full DEI/ESG. They make shows full of unfunny people just because they tick the boxes.
who was in the wrong here?
One Foot in the Grave. Hell of an ending.
Only Fools and Horses is kino. You should watch it with your grandad.
I don't care if this makes me seem like an old boring fart but Last of the summer wine was peek comfy.
>What are some essential British comedies?
The Fast Show (+ anything with Whitehouse and Enfield)
Disastros emergencia ruin! Nimbo cumulous
Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, in fact all the Harry and Paul stuff.
A bit partial to Harry Hill, but I haven't seen him in years. Loved him as a kid, maybe hasn't aged well.
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
Make sure you get a copy with the dvd extras coz the commentary is incredible.
Man that show is absolute shite, League Of Gentlemen tier
>Make sure you get a copy with the dvd extras coz the commentary is incredible.
Amen. Every ounce of that show is brilliant, what a shame they didn't option more when they had the chance.
15 storeys high is the best show.
Black Books
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Ever Decreasing Circles, One Foot in the Grave and Yes Minister. Dad's Army is perhaps the most quintessential British comedy but, I don't know how well it will translate to a non-British person.
Yes Minister
Allo Allo
Black Adder
Only Fools and Horses
The Fast Show
Are there any good British comedies from the last 10 years?
Toast of London just falls in - started 2013, so a few more days and it wouldn't count. Entertainment in the the past 10 years just hasn't been that good in general. They were never great to begin with but, the majority of panel shows became completely unwatchable and soulless when in the early-2010s they started introducing diversity quotas for panellists.
>Is it a dolphin in a bathtub?
OH MY GAWD THE DAILY MAIL
The pre quota and post quota eras are a prime display of why nepotism is fine provided you screen for talent first. We now know what happens when they don't
Fricking mad that the "horny Swedish au pair" character in "Mind Your Language" was played by Ingmar Bergman's daughter.
"yes (prime)minister" is extremely underrated

Just gone through every British comedy show of the 2010s and 2020s on here and the answer is no, no there hasn't been. So much forgotten slop on here as well, comedians getting 30 opportunities to fail with various vehicles, reboot after reboot after reboot (did you know they made a whole new series of Yes, Minister despite everyone from the original being dead?), so much absolute shit on ITV 3.
Algorithm seems to really like this show all of a sudden.
Have American zoomers just discovered it?
I took that screenshot 6 years ago.
I was meaning youtube, not yourself.
My YT shorts feed is full of Mind Your Language clips.
interesting
some mothers do 'ave 'em
