The following are overrated:
>Morrison Animal Man, Doom Patrol, Bat Epic
>52
>Robinson Starman
>Gaiman Sandman
>Waid Flash, World's Finest
>O'Neil The Question, Green Lantern/Green Arrow
>Wolfman Teen Titans
>Brubaker Captain America
>Millar Ultimates
>Fraction Hawkeye
>Priestroke
>Hastings Gwenpool
>Ewing Immortal Hulk
>Lee/Ditko Spider-Man
>Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four
>The Authority
>Transmetropolitan
>anything in Cosmic Marvel from this century
>Y: The Last Man
>The Maxx
>The Boys
>The Superior Foes of Spider-Man
>Hellboy
>East of West
>Saga
>anything by Brian Michael Bendis
>anything by Tom King
and basically anything after 2014. Some of these are still good, and others are just not good at all.
Remove Animal Man and Lee/Ditko Spidey, replace it with Preacher and Hitman
No.
I love Kevin O'Neill.
I see it posted about here frequently.
A lot of them are still good, yes.
Lee/ditko spidey could feel very overwritten
Lol
>O'Neill overrated
Your opinion isn't even trash. It is literally a joke. Like, it makes me laugh
Superior Foes is overrated? Come on man most people have no idea that run exists in the slightest.
a good list. these are all good comics but not as good as people say.
Remove Hellboy, 52, Lee/Ditko Spidey, and 21st century Cosmic Marvel and this list is correct.
>O'neil Question
Definitely. Complete shit. No idea how people praise it as much as they do.
>Remove
No.
>Definitely. Complete shit.
You're harsher on it than me. It's not that bad.
Damn you really do have shit taste then, huh?
I have great taste.
I'd like to see that too, but I don't think it's possible.
I'll throw in a good one and see how many people agree:
>The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
Anyone agree/disagree?
>I have great taste
>Thinks Hellboy is overrated
One or the other, anon
So we're just listing off great comics right?
>Daredevil by Frank Miller
>Thor by Walter Simonson
>Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont
>Spectacular Spider-Man by J.M. DeMatteis
>Watchmen
>The Dark Knight Returns
>Batman: Year One
>Batman: The Long Halloween
>Batman: Dark Victory
>Batman: The Killing Joke
>Batman: Arkham Asylum - A Serous House on Serious Earth
>All-Star Superman
We're naming overrated comic runs. Read the OP.
It's both.
You brain-broke Cinemaphile, dude.
is the authority overrated?
i thought it was generally agreed upon that its enjoyable garbage
I don't know about that, but I have seen it talked up in several places.
I'm just being honest.
>is the authority overrated?
>i thought it was generally agreed upon that its enjoyable garbage
I'm pretty sure that's what Warren Ellis INTENDED for it to be.
extremely cringe post, kys
You guys are wild.
What's the problem?
I'm a happy guy.
Saying something is overrated doesn't mean I hate it. I only hate very few of the comics I listed.
>Hard disagree on these.
That's fine.
That one right there.
>Waid Flash
>Wolfman Teen Titans
>Lee/Ditko Spider-Man
>Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four
Hard disagree on these.
You forgot Milligan's Hellblazer.
Did that rank?
Isn't that generally recognized to be garbage though?
Keyed
Everything from the 60s
>pic not related
Wasn't 10/10 but probably last solid Hulk run we will ever see in 10-20 years
>solid
>wasn't 10/10
You're agreeing that it's overrated.
It's properly rated when it's the only good Hulk run in years.
Tomasi's Superman is considered to be the best Superman run, but it's still a hot pile of shit.
>Anything remotely good is overrated
I'd like to see Cinemaphile agree on a list of things that are good and not overrated
New runs like Mark Waid's World's Finest, Tom Taylor's Nightwing, Jeremy Adams' Flash, Ryan North's Fantastic Four, and Jed MacKay's Moon Knight.
Immortal is good if you remove the middle arc where he goes against an oil company and becomes an activist. Oh and anything with Jackie for the Gamma flight morons, that shit sucked too
But the first arc against Fortean and the last arc with Joe and Savage? That’s good shit
Invincible. If you are talking big 2 Claremont X-Men.
That one for sure.
Ther are no runs that are actually good. There are runs that are good *compared to other comics*
I somewhat agree with that, except I'd say there are no runs that are actually great.
This board is made of unnecessary negativity.
criticizing shit media is very necessary.
everything is shit if you look deep enough
no it fricking isn't you contrarian homosexual.
queer
homosexual
Negativity drives engagement. Otherwise threads would just be 3-4 posters going "hmmm yeah X was good"
I feel like there really needs to be a better balance of negativity and positivity. Not that we should ever devolve into sycophancy of course but positive threads can thrive in their own way.
The head mod disagree. One of the ex-jannies for Cinemaphile has said he got fired by for removing excess number of troll threads and posts dedicated to (you) farming.
Cinemaphile operates on basically the same incentive structure as X/FB/YT.
>I feel like there really needs to be a better balance of negativity and positivity.
go to reddit you squeamish homosexual
That would require some degree of media analysis, or even just the time and courage required to give one's own honest thoughts on a given work. But it takes minimal effort to call something (even stuff you haven't read) shit
I've tried before and they don't work here. People always say that there isn't much of a discussion when it's all positive, but that's complete bullshit. What the board suffers from is a lack of social skills, or autism for the wrong things.
>What the board suffers from is a lack of social skills, or autism for the wrong things
Would you mind elaborating?
The inability to speak on anything without being negative is a lack of basic social skills.
We do see autism when it comes to things like waifus, where people will reach bump limit talking about how good a character is, but those threads are pretty devoid of substance.
>those Batgirl/Cass, X-23/Laura threads
First ones that pop to my mind, just someone posting random pictures of the characters and people saying they want to cum on their feet or something degenerate.
>but those threads are pretty devoid of substance.
Your disliking them doesn't mean they're devoid of substance.
Your being a waifugay doesn't mean your inane shitposting has any substance.
Cinemaphile only likes artsy fartsy comics written by Brits. If a Brit didn't like it then they think it's "low brow" and general bad. That's really all there is to it. Notice how no one is claiming any Alan Moore runs are overrated despite Alan Moore being objectively absurdly overrated.
Cinemaphile is general has devolved into this state where most of the posters think they're "sophisticated gentlesirs" who are "above the normies" and that liking postmodernist crap made by amateurish hacks makes them smarter than everyone else.
Cinemaphile has an even worse case of this behavior than Cinemaphile does. (Although Cinemaphile is the worst of all.)
Rent free.
>Ugg did this comic get any amount of praise at all? SO OVERRATED
Frick off
it sucks, go take an acid bath tastelet numale
I'd just like to go on a tangent and say that I read the 2000s Hulk comics recently, and just like Immortal they totally fizzle out when Leader gets involved.
>that awesome cover art
>that great take of Hulk as a horror character
>xemnu brainwashes the whole earth except a trans character who beats the brainwashing by the power of being trans
Never had my enjoyment of a comic change so abruptly apart from shit like botched endings.
>that great take of Hulk as a horror character
Not really. I agree about the cover art.
He's similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll and Hyde
have a nice day troony
>doesn't deny it
accurate every time
no selfies allowed
>no selfies allowed
Wtf that looks just like me. I'm
for reference.
you really gonna defend morrison, fraction, king, bendis and ewing? dumb troony
everyone who posted wojaks ITT supports trans rights
>everyone who posted wojaks ITT supports trans rights
>everyone who posted wojaks ITT supports trans rights
homosexuals
>you really gonna defend morrison, fraction, king, bendis and ewing? dumb troony
>t. average ewing enjoyer
>>t. average ewing enjoyer
>>>t. average ewing enjoyer
Why does this fat moron never smile
leftists are self hating
looks like a moron
>>>>t. average ewing enjoyer
All popular runs.
what's this from?
Immortal Hulk. It's pretty good for a Hulk book t b h, wood recommend.
oh shit, just read the first issue and really liked it. I have no prior knowledge and jumped in totally blind just because i saw the cool cover so i was pleasantly surprised. no clue it becomes this gruesome but seems cool
Are you new to comics?
kind of, at least superheroes, and then mostly eurocomics or conan, or the occasional indie comic. i've never read alot of them because it's been sort of fringe territory for me while other similar interests have been on the forefront.
I suggest you read Moore Swamp Thing too.
If gruesome violence is a plus, then Garth Ennis's Punisher Max is a good read. Particularly the Slavers arc. A lot more grounded, true to life antagonists than the usual italian greaseballs and multi-ethnic inner city gangs Frank generally fights.
>MAX has more realistic villains than regular Punisher comics
Are you moronic?
Anything by Donny Cates
Anything by Darwyn Cooke
I think it's safe to say that many residents of co/ just hate everything and are miserable if they're listing half the shit in this thread as "overrated" when frankly most comics and creators could stand to have more love and eyes given to them, frick whoever says Darwyn Cooke is overrated
>when frankly most comics and creators could stand to have more love and eyes given to them
doesn't mean shit
Means stop b***hing
Pretty much anything written by a Brit for an American publisher.
Hickman's Avengers
Hickman's New Avengers
Hickman's entire Krakao run
Hickman's G.O.D.S.
Basically Hickman.
I did enjoy Hickman's Fantastic Four though.
anyone who uses the term "overrated" in any capacity should be shot
>What are some of the most overrated comic runs ever?
Anything by Moore Anything by Geoff/Morrison
