What are some shows like True Detective season 1?
Doesn't necessarily have to be detective stuff, something with occult/paranormal undertones mixed with realism and a great dynamic. Plus if there's a character who's a strangely charismatic weirdo like Rust.

First two seasons of Fargo. Third season takes a huge nosedive in quality and it’s all shit from then on. People on here talk like season 3 is as good as the first two but the only thing it has going for it is David Thewlis, without him it would be borderline unwatchable but even with him and his great performance it’s mediocre at best

There was a lot of talk of supernatural themes but nothing that happens in the show is actually supernatural unlike in Fargo where the newest season has a straight up 500 year old vampire skinwalker. He was honestly the only halfway decent part of season five, I don’t even know why I watched it

The tone is much different but it is a detective show involving paranormal undertone (at least S1 through mid S2 is)
Again friend, True Detective isn’t a paranormal show, it’s about a weird satanic cult and that’s where the supernatural aspect begins and ends.
it's ambigious until the very end where Rust looks up and sees a spooky portal but it's established that he hallucinates from brain damage and Marty never says "hey Rust how about that portal, pretty crazy huh?" so there's nothing explicitly supernatural
