I remembered watching a video titled frazzledrip where a man beating a crying little girl hanged upside down and a woman with an eye mask running around making weird noises laughing like a moron. I think it's from daisy destruction. That was during 2016 election. So the republicans actually had the full film.

Idk watched forest gump recently and it feels like a very mediocre movie. It touches on all these real world events but not in a meaningful way, and the characters aren't very interesting with the exception of Gary Sinise. I mean it has some good scenes and compared to the goyslop that has been coming out the past decade its a masterpiece. It's just not as good as I remembered.

I never understood why people love The Burbs so much. I'm not sure what it was, since there were so many great elements. It's Joe Dante, a fantastic cast (mid-rise Tom Hanks, Corey Feldman in one of his last theatrical releases, Carrie Fisher in a movie), good production design, and a premise with potential...but I don't know. Maybe the stakes just weren't high enough, the tone not properly manic, and the actual nature of the threat not even that exciting. Maybe it pales in comparison to some of Dante's other works. Next to an army of gremlins running amok, a fantastic voyage into Martin Short's body, and GI Joes come to life, a group of suburbanites who worry their neighbors are simply murderers is just eh, and the broad Eastern European accents don't make it exotic enough.

It's a great poster. Very ominous yet comic, framing Hanks in the kind of twisted suburbia the film doesn't quite deliver on. This should be Blue Velvet: The Comedy or Tim Burton in the real world. If there are no supernatural elements at all, then it should at least carry the Kafka comedy and increasingly wild feel of Scorcese's After Hours.
Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against this film. It's entertaining, and I can see why people like it. It is very quintessentially '80s. I don't remember, but Dick Miller (RIP) is probably in it. Just not a classic for me.

I love it, but I think the older ages of the cast and lack of supernatural elements does negatively affect it. It’s got the same style and humour as The Lost Boys, but the change of those two elements stop it from hitting those same highs, and the mundane realistic nature of the suburban neighbourhood mean a lack of weird cool styles, locations, characters and scenery that elevate the Lost Boys to something far greater. Still, I love the unfolding mystery, the twists, the are-they-aren’t-they that goes right to the very end. Carrie Fisher should definitely have been given more screen time though, more of her being a voice of reason. It’s a great movie that just falls short of being legendary.

        Anonymous

Well put. I think The Lost Boys is a good example of 80s gothic I do see the appeal of. Well, I guess I see the appeal of this one too. Like I said, that poster certainly does it for me and I love the cast. But the art direction of creepy suburbia pales in comparison to Tim Burton, and the villainous threat needs to be more interesting for me.

          >the villainous threat needs to be more interesting for me.
It needed to be subtle enough that the audience isn't sure if Ray, Art and Rumsfield are just imagining the Klopeks are murderous ghouls or if they really are murdering people in the neighborhood. If it's too obvious too early the nuance is lost and the movie doesn't have the weird tension it does have.

Kinda hard to take your rec seriously when you insist on calling Bridge of Spies good.
The phony sets permeated the scenes, those shots were sterile. It was an unremarkable movie. Nobody remembers it and calls it good.

ITT you'll see it here because of the topic.. in no other thread will you hear it mentioned. Nobody will hype it up.

I'd replace 'The Green Mile' with 'Appollo 13'. He's particularly proud of that movie and he's very pattriotic. Green Mile is just sentimental drab and is inconsistent in tone in a manner that's jarring.
