The warnings are in fact a walkback. The first one I remember seeing was on old WB cartoons a few years ago, at which time it was much more common for scenes to be cut or entire episodes removed.

i unironically think bleeping out swear words on television are funnier than uncensored dialogue. i guess it's the same reason somethings can be scarier or more fantastical when left vague or unseen; your imagination just runs wild.

but yes, i can't imagine why a totalitarian shithole like china would censor media that even hints as the challenge of a status quo.

      Anonymous

The game Brutal Legend has two options for swearing: "Let me hear it" all,or "its funnier if you bleep it out" cussing has so much more power when its a loud abrasive beep.

      Anonymous

For almost a decade I thought South Park was supposed to have the swearing bleeped out as that's how it was shown on UK TV. Then I saw a DVD and realised it was actually censored.

It's only funny when you censor words people think are innocuous such as 'I don't post on Face***k'.

Censoring the truth is about the most heinously disgusting thing someone can do.

      Anonymous

I've heard this opinion repeated since I saw the option in Brutal Legend years ago but so far only the old SpongeBob episode about swearing is the only time I've found the idea funny. I usually prefer to hear the swears themselves because people are usually passionate about their swears. Frick can have a lot of different meanings based on the tone of your voice.

South Park has done such a great job in the past with funny meta censorship/bleeping (e.g. Jimbo not being bleeped when he says "gays" because Mr. Garrison says only homosexuals can get away with it on TV) that the ending scene of 201 was thought to be just a funny long 2-minute bleep bit instead of having an actual message behind it that Comedy Central was too pussy to air, people only found that out years later when the unaltered episode got accidentally leaked on Comedy Central's online streaming service.

Why do Americans cry and shit their pants when they hear a swear word or nipple? Yet, gratuitous violence is ok.

All of western culture has focused on depopulation since WW2 endangered the ruling class.
      Death good, family bad.
Everything from women being employed, to gays, lack of housing, is all designed for this purpose.

unironically, the first season of X-Files. In the first two episodes, they refer to their nemesis as Cancer Man. By the third or fourth episode, he is "Cigarette-smoking Man" because big tobacco threatened Fox networks. Honestly, it's the only real conspiracy related to the show.

An episode of M*A*S*H has an unusual censoring on DVD and other releases. Col Potter's horse gets colic, so Hawkeye and BJ have to flush her out. One has to go on the water tower and the other gets the horse end of the water hose. BJ says he's afraid of heights and Hawkeye says, "do you want to be on this end of the hose?", and BJ says "My feet are like wings, sahib" and dashes up the ladder to the tower. They flush out the horse and everything is okay.

The removed BJ's silly line in later releases, I guess because it's offensive to Arabs

Fricking Adventure Time is censored on HBO Max. There's zero indication that it is either. They've just quietly removed bits that might offend some lunatic somewhere, like this brutal and inappropriate joke:
    https://webmshare.com/play/KbLOq
This is the real danger when it comes to streaming services and corporate vandalism of media. Anyone watching it for the first time would never even know something was cut. Hell, I'm sure plenty of people rewatching it wouldn't notice either.
