He would make up his own overpowered faction complete with hundreds of custom lovingly made minis and then get pissy if you didn't let him use them.

It would depend entirely on what Reed plays.

I can see Reed as a Mechanicum guy. Maybe Eldar if the mood strikes him

Reed plays Tau, and you know it.

Doom is a WAAC, FotM netlistgay who has other people paint his armies for him. Reed as points out, plays Tau. Ben runs Orks and collects old metal minis.

Specifically, he would want to show off how better at the game he is than Reed. As such, and taking into

      [...]
Reed plays Tau, and you know it.

      into account, he would either
A: play as the faction that has the lowest win-rate against the Tau
      B: also play Tau
For no other reason than to prove, without beyond all reasonable doubt, that he is the better player than Reed.

Depends on which aspect of Doom you want to focus. The autism, the magic, the secrecy? The way I see it, these are the possibilities:
    >Dark Angels
The Firstborn's faction, the highest of the high, shrouded in secrecy and self-absorbed. Plus, the green. Problem is they completely lack the magic. They have some keikakus and autism, but if you go with DA you're going with self-importance as a major aspect.
    >Iron Warriors
Perty has the same type of autism as Doom. Same vindictiveness, same grudges, same MO. Problem is they're too focused on efficiency and they lack pizzazz and magic. And Doom's a pretty big drama king, let's be honest.
    >Custodes
The Emperor's Finest. The peak of humanity. I can see them appealing to him for reasons similar to the DA.
    >Emperor's Children
Their whole point is that they strive for excellence. But with their fall to Chaos and the utterly disgusting mess they became, I cannot see them appealing to Doom. Had they remained Loyalists, I could've seen it, but this is a case where Doom would only play some rogue Loyalist remnant or something.
    >Thousand Sons
I'd bet money here. They are the most magic-y of the bunch, their whole deal is that they're warriors and scholars, and even though they're "fallen" per se, it was just a case of unfortunate timing which with the whole Magnus thing could tie into Doom's persecution complex with Reed. Plus, it's exactly like Doom to want to out-keikaku the keikaku-master.

    I'm betting TS.

I could see it, but their whole point is being secretive and mysterious. Doom is mysterious, but he's also pretty bombastic. By the same token you could drop him into Blood Angels because their whole point is that they're like the Emperor's Children but actually good.

The problem with Doom is that he mixes so many genres, and you don't know what to lean on to make the choice work. We know that Doom's got complexes, but whether he's oblivious to them or just denies them, it's not likely that he'd go
        >ah, Perturabo, he too is an autist throwing hissyfits, just like me!
He'd call Perty too petty and think he's above all that. He'd also consider Fulgrim too much of a hedonistic moron who got corrupted by a sword, even though you can make an argument for it. So depends on how much knowledge about his own self he has, and which aspect you're trying to focus on. Doom combines science and magic while also priding himself on being cultured. I myself Thousand Sons works the best because it has all that, while also taking care of Doom's contrarianism and subtle inferiority complex. He has the moronic furries to project his hatred to, the Emperor who just "didn't get it", and the TS are basically tragic heroes fighting against fate. Ahriman's willpower is resisting the Warp itself. I think it'd appeal to Doom.

So me, I'd say Doom runs Thousand Sons. I think Reed being a Taugay is accurate. But what about the rest of the gang? We could do the Illuminati, Kang, Thanos, those types.

Doom would be one of those turbo gays that has an army in all factions and would play whatever he thought would be the best advantage play against his opponent.
