James Gunn is a manchild B-horror fan literally from Troma who managed to convince Marvel to give him some artistic freedom which ended up in success because his approach is kinda perfect for capeshit.
Taika Waititi made decent comedies and family films before being snatched up by Marvel, he's also somewhat infantile but the only difference between him and Gunn stylistically is that Waititi has much more jokes shoved in which makes his films worse. I doubt he has as much artistic freedom as people think he does, he's most likely told to "do it like Gunn does it". His non MCU movies are nothing like his MCU movies.
Edgar Wright is a high octane action / comedy director who you think would be perfect for capeshit too but it looks like he's not as compliant, got kicked out of Ant Man. Most likely his editing is too much for Marvel, they will give someone some freedom in cinematography and comedy but they have certain way the pace their films, and Wright doesn't fit the usual script formula of MCU in that regard. That's what went wrong with Multiverse of Madness, Raimi only got a few visual quirks to insert and the zombie sequence, otherwise it's a mediocre Marvel film that just goes through motions and keeps throwing shit at you over and over without much thought behind what is being throwin into. It's a vinaigrette of uninteresting bullshit.
