Manga went from 28% of the market to 76% of the market in 2 years.

Now, you could say that this signifies manga's success...but it's bettered attributed to the failure of comics.

At this rate American comics may as well close shop, because in one or two years they won't even be profitable anymore.

"Wokeism" has nothing to do with it, manga always had a pretty decent amount of represenation for sexual minorities... hell there are even genres dedicated entirely to gay romances

I agree, i was just arguing that what you said was not a problem.. even though they're not best-selling that doesn't mean that they don't make up a share of the market. Those ones on your list are doing so well because each one is pretty unique and creative, they all tackle stuff in their own way and have diverse art-styles and character designs.. plus more relatable protagonists. The reality is that people who read comics are tired of the same old superheroes from the 60s fighting whoever, especially the younger generations...

              >The reality is that people who read comics are tired of the same old superheroes from the 60s fighting whoever, especially the younger generations...
This is true, but also it turns out that people don't like being preached to either, and manga tends to avoid that.
Even the ones with gays in them tend to just be slice-of-life about a gay couple or unapologetic porn aimed at women and gay dudes instead of a soapbox for some shitty failed writer to air their grievances.
American comics will likely never learn this and will continue shoving annoying politics down people's throats because that's what 90% of American media has become; a vehicle for moronic American politics.

Here in france people have always read a lot of manga, and our comics are similar to them in a way that they usually just include minorities as casual people with their own struggles in a pretty natural way... I guess that what is happening in america is that a good chunk of its population just realised that puritanism and racism were actually kind of wrong and are now being way too preachy about it.. just like when a child discovers something new and starts telling everybody about it. Maybe its just part of your maturization as a society?

In murica people simply stopped reading comics and comics became a product for the niche audience of virgin neckbeards.

                >I guess that what is happening in america is that a good chunk of its population just realised that puritanism and racism were actually kind of wrong and are now being way too preachy about it
Oh no, they just replaced their old puritanism and racism with a new form of puritanism and racism.
Notice that American comics are still really lame and censored when it comes to anything involving sex or nudity compared to their French or Japanese counterparts.
Frankly, anyone who thinks they're going to use comics to stop racism or misogyny is a genuine moron who seems to have the mindset of an actual toddler.

Manhwa like Solo Leveling and The Abandoned Empress are included with other "author" GNs not associated with superheros, while manga is its own category.

(He has a point- we need an updated Archie comics or updated American style manga based in high school)

        Anonymous

The problem with "American style manga based in high school" is that you'd need it to be made by someone young in order to be relatable.
American boomers somehow manage to be even more out-of-touch than Japanese boomers, so it's REALLY fricking obvious when a boomer is trying to write how they think teenagers talk.
Old people in America tend to have this weird idea that all teenagers and young people in America have the same behavior as hyper-liberal 20-something white women, which turns off basically the entire male audience.
That and you will NEVER see an Archie-style American comic that gives teen boys what they want nowadays.

          >made by someone young in order to be relatable
Wrong. Look at all the YA garbage and than look at Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Twilight novel series. The successfull IPs are made by old people who were 10+ away from their high school time.

            >look at Harry Potter
Made by and for white women, who like the same shit from ages 10 to 50.
            >Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Aimed at little kids, not young adults or even teens.
            >Twilight
            Same as Harry Potter.

If you want to attract a teen male audience, you need to do more than write embarrassing garbage where all the "teens" talk like their mother.

              >who like the same shit from ages 10 to 50
Thats the point. People dont change that much. You just need to know what they want or how they act.
              >Aimed at little kids, not young adults or even teens.
Ok, but you get my drift that age isnt the most important thing here.
              >If you want to attract a teen male audience,
Than you need a good writer who knows how to write believable and is capable of understanding their target groups. Age is not that important.
