why is everyone involved with this gushing about how much they love the books and how it was always their dream yet every characterization is wrong
why the frick is hans zimmer talking about how he knows the books by heart but didn't know how music could be included or if there even is any music in the world of Dune despite every other page being a song or a description of a musical instrument

Even half the people who have read the books and can quote from memory think they're some sci fi superhero story. It's not like they're some kind of esoteric, strangely written prose either. It's flat out moronation in the average person interested in sci fi.

Dune is an absolutely fricking terrible book
I had to stop because literally every fricking chapter Frank goes on massive tangents about how the fremen (super clever name bro) worship water and their water suits

I Fricking get it. It's a desert planet. Water is scarce. It's important to them. Their culture reflects that. The suits are important. I FRICKING GOT IT WHEN YOU WENT ON AND ON AND ON AND FRICKING ON AND ON ABOUT THEM EVERY FRICKING CHAPTER. LITERALLY EVERY FRICKING CHAPTER. THEY'LL GO TO THE FRICKING HARKONEN PLANET AND YOU THINK FINALLY SOMETHING INTERESTING AND THEN SOME butthole JUST TELLS THE BARON ABOUT THEIR FRICKING SUITS AGAIND AND ABOUT HOW SPITTING IS A SIGN OF RESPECT BECAUSE WATER IS RARE GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT FAHGHDWSGBDSFGKDAFGKDSFGDSFGDFSKGJDFSNKJGNKJDFSG

Lots of long boring second unit shots of soulless brutalist architecture, a weird combination of under and over acting depending on actor/character, more jarring insertions of blacks and browns where they don’t belong, and more evidence that Villeneuve doesn’t understand the books at all.

frank was literally inspired by his injun neighbor, the concept of the messiah (which has implicit religious tones), the general desert biome ecosystem and his personal trips on psychedelics, which many users have reported having a spiritual feeling after said use. i didn't inject a fricking thing you lying sack of shit.

    Not much honestly.
The first part looked very drab and grey (Dune is a 60s book about tripping on alien substance until your eyes turn bright blue). It had some great actors but the plot, already very exposition-heavy, was turned into "characters stand still and deliver their lines with stone faces" kind of movie by Villeneuve's love for long shots. It was better than dominant capeslop but that's about it, and the bar isn't set terribly high.

What is this story even about that warrants a big budget spectacle? It's not about a great evil destroying mankind it's just a bunch of houses fighting over land. So they have to make one of the houses look like literal demons so that you know who the good guys are

No, it's about how man's destined to destroy himself and needs a guiding hand to break from the eternity of warfare and bloodshed over stupid bullshit. Breaking the cycle.
That's the point of the books, anyway.

Except Paul's breaking the cycle by doubling down on a more destructive act in the cycle. He just did it with illusion of free will.

        >Pre-shooting had commenced on July 4, 2022 at the Brion tomb in Altivole, Italy for two days.[34] Principal photography was set to begin on July 21 in Budapest, Hungary,[34] but began earlier on July 18.[1][35] The film was entirely shot using digital IMAX certified cameras, with new filming locations and sets being used "to avoid repetition."[36] By October 2022, Chalamet had taken a break from filming in order to attend the premiere of Bones and All (2022).[37] In November 2022, production moved to Abu Dhabi, UAE, with Pugh finishing her scenes later that month.[38][39] Filming wrapped on December 12, 2022.[40]

that was months BEFORE the strike started.
but they will have had to shoot more footage after test screenings revealed people didn't like the movie, so you could be part-right.

          Anonymous

based on your ctrl+v it sounds more like scheduling conflicts led to delays in shooting and that pushed post further back, which would also cause a delay in release. then you add the strikes on top of that.
