Just like the Dixon run, they build up a setup then never go for a payoff. It's been over two years and the big bad set up in issue one is still running around.
It’s probably the same 1-3 people making Dick threads, as Dick doesn’t have very many fans here anymore. But at least they space them out instead of using that image multiple times a day or everyday.
Honestly all you've got to do to fix Nightwing is to change his villains, character, personality, city, side cast, there's more I'm probably missing but it's start. He really has 0 good villains, something the old gen have in surplus, Batman, Hal, Superman, Barry all have villains that want to ruin them, they have rich histories, and a side cast that can all be used against them or play into their stories. Nightwing and his gen honestly don't have that, most new gen characters have very shallow, boring relationships, because they had it easy and not every relationship has to be super deep or traumatic to be possible, that being said it is far less interesting to read because there is no drama to follow. You're not going to see Joker being obsessed or Sinestro, or Lex or RF, they're a whole other breed of villains and their addition adds a lot to the heroes' characters.
Plus who would want to go through all that effort to break Nightwing, if Batman is right there. It all comes back to the villains and Bludhaven, they suck plain and simple.
I like them because there is no cartoonish philosophy or political goal bullshit, just rich people who wants to stay in power and have a secret club. It's simple, it's realistic, it's fun.
You could maybe do something interesting there, but the problem is it just turns into a very simplistic villain group
It is very hard to get a lot of powerful, rich people to work together. There will be a lot of interpersonal drama, arguing over which direction to take the group, people threatening to leave if they don’t get their way, etc
Court of owls doesn’t do that. There are a bunch of “rich, powerful people”, who lack any identity besides being rich and powerful. They all wear masks, we get zero characterization. And they’ve been doing the same thing forever so they can be used as a villain or explanation at any point in time. What events have they influenced or caused? Anything and everything, whatever the writer wants.
It’s just lazy imo
If writers actually spent a lot of time and energy getting into who the court is, their history, their goals, their problems, then maybe it could be fun. But then they lose the mystique, which is basically all they have going for them
I agree, there a massive potential in their premise but they are awfully underveloped, you could easily develop several court members as their own characters with their own goals and show them as a more realistic and complex alliance that actually needs a lot of struggle to stay together and keep their power
It's kinda like Roxxon Energy Corporation, it's a neat premise to have a big and essential company that is ruled by extremely ruthless businessmen but when you actually read the comic they are nothing but short sighted insane self destructive morons without any plan who are not all murdered or arrested because the writer said so and are nothing more than a plot device.
Nightwing needs to be tentacle gaped by poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, this will traumatise him and make him afraid of women while deep down liking buttstuff but not being attracted to men.
