The movie is set in the civil war, standards were different then. Depiction =/= endorsement. Also Eastwood is kind of a generally bad guy in this movie and comes to a bad end eventually.
It’s unnecessary. Elle Fannings character is like 16 in the remake who he seduces and sleeps with. That’s an age understandable for the plot of the soldier using the women’s sexual attraction to him to allow him to stay.
