Fever dream.
It was barely any different from 90% of other movies like it but with a Nintendo twist. I personally didn’t care for it but I’m also not an animation or Nintendo fan so I have no idea what all they did right or wrong.
I took my nephew to see it and he liked it which is all that matters.

I'm upset about the Goombas because they interesting. The original manual for Super Mario Bros explains that the Goombas used to be citizens of the Mushroom kingdom but they betrayed Peach and defected to Bowser

Agreed. Movie needed some depth. If Im watching an animated Mario movie, I want some grit. Luigi should have been murdered, maybe something about an absentee father, Peach gets raped. That sort of stuff. I dont want to see a lighthearted Mario movie for kids with a traditional three act structure and a happy ending for fricks sake

It was typical ilumination slop which I still enjoy because these movies are actually made for kids and families to enjoy and not woke morons on Twitter to jerk off to.
The voice acting was mostly shit with the exception of bowser and captain toad, the only two actors that actually gave enough of a shit to try to voice the character and not just read the lines with their natural voices but other than that the movie is ok.
I'm 38 years old and watched it the other week. It's good it was barely 90 minutes, it didn't waste my time with any bullshit, which is what I value most in a movie these days.
