I hate "too stupid to live" and lolrandom humor, so I never liked Ed, but the other characters and the comfy setting always made up for it. Plus Double D is basically me in real life.
Cast felt too static. During the last season when they were in school they could have introduced new characters to develop new dynamics instead of it always just being the kids from the Cul De Sac
>Eds actually provide a good service for once that can barely be called a scam >Kankers appear just to ruin everything
Shit like this bothered me even as a kid
People mock the use of "mean-spirited" as a term here, but after all these years of cartoons doing these pull-the-rug-from-under-you endings, it's no wonder so many of us are tired of it.
The characters felt much more one-note and simple and a lot of things that were happening just felt strange in the overall context of the show. I don't get why people say it was the best, the first half of season 1 in particular was pretty damn rough.
They did and the Eds are hardly differentiated in early season 1. Their later characterization was louder but also had more going on than their earlier stuff, they only went totally out of control with it in season 5.
NTA but yes, the early EEnE characters were much more simply portrayed. They were basically just kids with minor differences in interests, which might seem more realistic but doesn't make their characters more complex. The series eventually did dumb them back down in the opposite direction with the school season, but season 2 - 4 had them act more as actual individual characters.
Flanderizing them into The moron, The whiny homosexual and The butthole is the definition of one-note
They didn't actually get that bad until season 5, which is exactly the point I'm making. Ed was still into comics and sci-fi movies and acted as a real character, and regularly had actually smart ideas that helped the Eds out. Edd still would go along with scams an regularly got caught up in them, sometimes going totally out of control himself. Eddy still had moments where he helped his friends out and was also concerned with how others viewed him while having his own interests outside of just being an butthole. Season 2 - 4 are where the Eds are at their best, season 1 is where they're kind of off-beat but still fun and season 5 is where they're actually fully flanderized.

>they were basically just kids with minor differences in interests. >in the early episodes
I'm confused, did they need to have massively intricate backstories, or something, laid out in the first episode for a joke cartoon about kids being kids and doing stupid stuff?
No, I'm just saying they felt more simple early on compared to how they were portrayed later. Some big epic backstory for them would have been fricking moronic.

Which is why it would’ve been hilarious.
I can't really explain it. I like the show when I watch an episode, but there's nothing that really compels me to watch another episode, you know? It isn't the kind of show that I find very fun to binge despite finding funny. Aqua Teen was sort of the same for me in that way. Both funny shows that I could enjoy an episode of, but nothing that really made me want to keep watching. The kind of show I watch one or two episodes and then won't come back to for a while before watching it again.
Not a big fan of the school seasons. >Eddy becomes a full-on jackass with nearly zero redeeming qualities >Double D becomes a goody-two-shoes who often sells the other Eds out >Ed's just in the background spouting non-sequiturs
it's been a long while since i watched it but i recall season 5 feeling like it suffered from roughly the same problem as modern spongebob where shit just got way too exaggerated, albeit to a lesser extent
Feel like we should have had a cameo of the parents at least once. A parent teacher conference ep in the school season would have been the perfect excuse.
>Naz barely being a character
Same here. I've never cared for "she is a girl and she is perfect and that's literally it" "characters." It's disappointing and feels like wasted potential.
The school seasons were atrocious. Animation was still good, but if they did happen to be in a school with other kids, basically none of the plots would have happened the way they did. Even the blackout episode, wouldn't the parents be with their kids? Plus everyone was flanderized. But the first four seasons were okay except for some shitty endings.
Didn't really like the character design but I got over it after a couple of episodes.

The show was really mean spirited
Sarah.
That is it.
The characters felt very off in the last season.
Cast felt too static. During the last season when they were in school they could have introduced new characters to develop new dynamics instead of it always just being the kids from the Cul De Sac
Am I the only one here who doesn't like the Kankers?
Nah, I never liked them either.
I hated all the female characters except Nazz.
I like May for being a dumb blond (buck teeth help as well). But no, I wouldn't date someone like them for real.
Yes you are
Never really cared for them, no
In hindsight I don't think I really care about anyone except for the Eds.
Feels like it in this place devoid of human intelligence

the first season is weird, a lot of scenes feel pointless just to pad time. whose car *was* that?
First season was the best one

It can be true that they were one note in different ways at different points in the show.

I wasn't a big fan of the back to school season. I liked the "eternal summer" aspect of the show.

We saw Eddy's dads arm in one episode.
Nothing.
The school episodes were average though.
Naz barely being a character
Didn't like the look of the first season either, the colors were too muted and the characters weren't as expressive
