It's good but it's my least favorite of the three rubber suit eras. I love all of them though.

I like all Godzilla eras and I'm hard pressed to say there is a movie I don't like. I guess I didn't like Godzilla Raids Again. Here is how I rank them
      >Showa
      >Heisei
      >Millennium
Not that I don't like Millennium. It's great and it has a lot of soul. I just wish they kept a continuity.

I like Raids Again, it has a comfy 50s monster movie feel that nothing else in the series has besides maybe the solo Rodan film.
        I'd rank
        >Showa
        >Millennium
        >Heisei
All three are kino. I do kinda wish we got another proper "series" after Heisei but I also liked the anthology concept of the Millennium era, it gave us some cool movies.

They fight more like animals in that movie than in the later ones.

finally, someone else who gets it!
            [...]
it's so good, it's a shame this style of fighting has made a return. Maybe in Godzilla Minus two, it would be cool for them to do a Raids Again remake with Godzilla fighting Anguirus again, I want a fearsome Anguirus to make a return!

It was all a mistake that Tsuburaya liked enough to keep in the film. I read that in future movies they experimented with speed but honestly nothing comes to mind.

          Interesting soundtrack too.

Compared to nearly every other entry it's the most explicitly horror-like in tone.

Yeah definitely a spooky ominous soundtrack, adds a lot to the atmosphere of the movie.

Weakest era, the human characters are among the most boring and the fights have too much beamspam. Biollante is really good, but Spacegodzilla is REALLY bad.

The best looking Godzilla era in terms of suits and effects but the posters are the best parts of those movies and the fight scenes usually sucked

The fights made more sense considering the scale

        Anonymous

This. Creatures that size doing wrestling moves undermines how big they're supposed to be, even though it can be fun to watch. The Heisei beam battles are more spectacular.

        Anonymous

I never understood this, big creatures don't have to be slow. Bears, hippos and elephants all move very fast

          Anonymous

Tiny lizards and bugs move way faster than us. We are more like Godzilla size to them

          Anonymous

Bears hippos and elephants aren't 1000 feet tall, they're only double the height of a human at most.

Regardless it's done to give a sense of scale and weight. Something big is going to take longer to move just on the basis of bigger means more space and so with more space comes more distance to travel and thus it takes more time to move 100 meters like one of Gojira's steps then it takes to move half a meter in our step.

What was Akira's beef with the Biolante soundtrack?
He made iconic music, but once he started doing the music for Heisei it just became "best of godzilla"

      Anonymous

He got butthurt that his Godzilla theme was reworked into a techno piece by Sugiyama:

He also thought the Saradia theme music didn't fit with the Middle-Eastern setting. After that, he just agreed to doing the OST for the rest of the Heisei series so none of his other music would get butchered by other composers.

Well, then Ifukube went full moron.
Music arrangements are something that really gives Vs. Biollante that 80's feel.

          Anonymous

Just seems like old man yells at cloud, which is ironically what Sugiyama turned into too.

It's even funnier because there was a rumor that Ifukube originally didn't want to compose music for the Heisei series because Godzilla's in-universe size was increased from 50 meters to 80 meters for the 1984 reboot.
          >Composer Akira Ifukube was offered to score the film but respectfully declined. At the time, it was rumored that Ifukube refused to participate in the film due to the changes made to Godzilla, stating, "I do not write music for 80-meter monsters". However, this quote was later clarified, by Ifukube's biographer Erik Homenick and Japanese Giants editor Ed Godziszewski, as a joke spread by fans which was later misinterpreted as fact. Ifukube declined to score the film due to his priorities, at the time, teaching composition at the Tokyo College of Music.

It's a joke that I think was started by Ed Godziszewski and a few books took it seriously.

It was nice but his four Heisei soundtracks just outclass everything else. It's that good. And done in just a few days because he recorded it in front of the finished film.

feel like it had too much rip off of american movies
Destroyah has a lot of Aliens in it
v King Ghidorah has some terminator style cyborg stuff
i like most Goji movies but for some reason Heisei stuff usually gets ignored for my favorites in Showa and Millenium

My least favorite Goji era. The beam fights and how plodding the monsters are ruins it, not to mention the sub-par characters and under developed plots. No Heisei monsters are superior to their Showa versions, save for MOGUERA. It’s the era I’ll rewatch films from the least, and usually it’s just 1984 that I’ll ever be in the mood to rewatch.
I will admit I like vs. Space Godzilla more than most people though. I like the camaraderie of the MOGUERA crew.
