The more I think about movie criticism the more I think like this.

Coonsumer mentality. Makes you watching movies completely uncritically. It's also a form of blissful ignorance

Not being able to articulate scrutiny of a piece of art, and therefore not being able to truly differentiate or understand what makes something good or not, is a sign of not just poor taste but the true intellectual and artistically bankrupt pleb.

Or maybe it's just because people have better things to worry about than movies and don't take them that seriously because cinema as whole has no real impact in life at all?
      >I-it does!
No, it doesn't. Most people in real life just watch movie they forget at the next minute because they're too busy having sex, working, making friends, going to gym, studying, etc. You know, things that actually do matter, unlike cinema.
      >CONSOOMER!
Art only exists because capitalism. Artists are worthless and expendable at the eyes of reality, and so is art. Cinema has ro real value in real life.

if people can watch sports and find it enjoyable of course people can find bad films enjoyable.

people conflate "I like" and "I didn't like" with "this is good" and "this is not good." Took me a while to be able to say "I didn't like the movie, but it was good"

      That's actually really true.
I usually associate good and bad with some sort of like objectiveness when it really comes down to feeling.

no shit, I'm talking about myself. But it applies to most people when they say something is good or bad. What they really mean is they either liked it or didn't.

        This is almost universally true.
A video game or a movie can be well done from start to level on an entirely technical bit but I could have absolutely no appreciation or interest for it.

Meanwhile the opposite can also be true as well. People love Halo. It's a well made tight shooter but I don't like it. That doesn't make it bad.

I enjoy some absolute trash but I don't think it's well made or well written. I just recognise that me liking something doesn't make it good and my ego isn't tied up in that whereas the ego of a typical person absolutely is tied up in that.

I remember taking my first girlfriend on a date to see Transformers 2 and even as a 17 year old I knew that movie sucked fricking balls. The theater was packed and that piece of shit got a standing ovation. I got into an argument with her about how fricking stupid these people were for liking that trash and she told me it was a good movie

I kinda feel this way about music, like its very obviously bad I'll probably like it just as much as the stuff critics love, the only thing I have any feelings for is rock and metal music I listened to in high school but thats just nostalgia.

There is no objective 'good' or 'bad' movies or in any form of art for that matter. If you had fun watching a movie then it was good.

I couldn't imagine being such a soulless consumer, not being able to feel passionately about something I either love or hate. Just switch your brain off and enjoy! Observe the images on the screen. Did you have enjoy them? Doesn't matter, you went and saw a movie. Now watch the next one.
